Overview
Warp Pipe Island is a custom track created by Wingcapman and Luke Chandler. It started as a port of the Mario Kart DS beta track Dokan Course in 2015, using Turbo Yoshi's version as a base, but it was eventually remade from scratch three years later, featuring revamped visuals and decoration.
Progression
The model was being worked on in Google SketchUp by Wingcapman, but ported over to Blender once Luke Chandler got to work on it.
There are a few images made public that shows the progression of what Wingcapman worked on, alongside with concept art, right before he gave the project to Luke Chandler. The images can be downloaded here. The images are dated from July 4th, 2014 until April 9th, 2018.
Credits
- Wingcapman, for using Turbo Yoshi's version of DS Dokan Course as a textureless base and adding a whole new theme to the track's design by adding mountains and warp pipes. They also added half-pipe ramps, changed the long tube section at the end of the lap into a warp pipe that goes through a tunnel, and created the custom textures for the warp pipe interiors as well as the pipe models and pipe textures.
- Luke Chandler, for finishing off the project. They did a reasonable amount of retexturing, created texture animations, remade the kcl and kmp and added extra elements inside the track's design which are the grate in the tunnel, bouncy mushrooms, Dolphin and water geyser models, billboards and an easter egg.
- Riidefi, Sniki and Tock, for extensive assistance and support in v1.0 onward.
- Turbo Yoshi, for creating their version of DS Dokan Course. Without their model, this project wouldn't exist.
