Although I've been clearly aware that changing version numbers isn't an ideal thing on the Custom Mario Kart Wiiki, I feel like the track updates that only function properly with LE-CODE should be changed. It seems misleading (at least to me) that they're not alternative updates, since, like I said, they only do their purpose when using LE-CODE. What are your thoughts on the matter? --[[User:KantoEpic|KantoEpic]] ([[User talk:KantoEpic|talk]]) 01:44, 12 February 2020 (UTC)

'''After implementation or rejection, they will be moved to here:'''
: I think we talk mainly about [[Lavaflow Volcano]]. "alt" means alternative. And with this suffix I think, that something in the gameplay changed like other objects, other walls other other models. Then we have the suffix "le". This is a special case of "alt", that is designed for LE-CODE only (not really usable with standard code). But the Lavaflow Volcano update fixes a bug (only if using LE-CODE). And for such fix updated incrementing the the version number or adding ".fix", ".hotfix" if ".hf" is usual. Jasperr hasn't updated the track for 10 months and the bug is still there. So increasing the version is in my opinion the best. Declaring is as alternative version is wrong here. So ".fix" is a good middle way. -- [[User:Wiimm|Wiimm]] ([[User talk:Wiimm|talk]]) 06:18, 12 February 2020 (UTC)

* [[Wiimm's Custom Archive/Closed requests]]
:: Another point: Changing the version number immediately after publishing isn't problematic. The problem is to change it after months or years, if the there a copies in the world (distributions, other downloading portals). Then we have different version numbers for for the same track. -- [[User:Wiimm|Wiimm]] ([[User talk:Wiimm|talk]]) 06:21, 12 February 2020 (UTC)

::: Even though, yes, the disappearing item bug was fixed thanks to the LEX file, you will still experience the bug outside of an LE-CODE-based distribution. If I'm going to be honest, a page like [[MP9 Toad Road]] handles its recent LE-CODE-only track update just fine. Its download link is in the Misc-Info box like an alternative update, and it doesn't replace the previous version. Unless a track update that includes LE-CODE-only fixes comes with other fixes and/or improvements, I don't see the reason for incrementing a current version number. --[[User:KantoEpic|KantoEpic]] ([[User talk:KantoEpic|talk]]) 07:06, 12 February 2020 (UTC)

== Menu/Race Character Length ==

I was told by Trainiax that the character limit is 32 for menus and 64 for race/battle previews, not 41 for either one of them. I am not sure which one is true. --[[User:KantoEpic|KantoEpic]] ([[User talk:KantoEpic|talk]]) 01:19, 18 December 2020 (UTC)

== LEX:HIPT ==
+
: Are you refering to the maximum amount of characters in a track name (in the track selection and in the race preview)? If so, Trainiax might have tested with LE-CODE / MKW-Fun, where we increased that limit in order to make that work with longer track names. -- [[User:Leseratte|Leseratte]] ([[User talk:Leseratte|talk]]) 05:50, 18 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi, just wondering if you knew when having a HIPT section in a LEX file, the sound effect for changing positions still happens when the position icon isn't showing. [[User:Trainiax|Trainiax/SwampyGator]] ([[User talk:Trainiax|talk]]) 03:42, 16 February 2020 (UTC)

: Yes, I know. Its more complicated to suppress the sound effects. -- [[User:Wiimm|Wiimm]] ([[User talk:Wiimm|talk]]) 07:45, 16 February 2020 (UTC)

::: I was also thinking about the same thing, but for the versus rating (VR). Not only having it hidden online entirely but also disabling the vr gain/lose sound as well. [[User:Huili|Huili]] ([[User talk:Huili|talk]]) 03:48, 18 February 2020 (UTC)

== Aquatropolis fail? ==

== SBK ambiguity ==
 +
Hi, I found that SBK can mean both ''Snowboard Kids'' and ''Super Baldy Kart'', the former being an N64 game and the latter a Super Mario Kart ROM hack. Four tracks from the ROM hack are labeled on ct.wiimm.de as tracks from the N64 game, i.e. [[SBK Egypt A|Egypt A]] and [[SBK Egypt B|B]] (families 7966 and 7973) and [[SBK Tropics A|Tropics A]] and [[SBK Tropics B|B]] (families 7991 and 7992). I don't think it's a big deal. I don't know how easy this would be, but there could be a new keyword for tracks from SNES ROM hacks to include all of these tracks plus some others like [[SNES Rainbow Road 2]] (family 4862), which is currently labeled as just a Super Mario Kart Track, and a whole lot of other tracks by [[Retrostyle12]] in general. Or maybe another fix would be to just remove the prefixes SNES and SBK from those paricular tracks (or maybe treat them as part of the name?). :# Because [[SBK Ninja Land]] is the oldest track, we should use another abbreviation for ''Super Baldy Kart'', eg, »SUBK« or »SBKA«.
 +
:# »SBK« seems to be a natural abbreviation for ''Super Baldy Kart'', and »SK« or »NSK« or »SK64« for ''N64 Snowboard Kids''.
 +
: Renaming on ct.wiimm.de or changing the prefix description is done very fast. Until now, all abbreviations have been chosen with care. But this is a common job for admins and mods — I will follow the decisions here until they are clear and full of logic.

:: "SBK Ninja Land" should be renamed to "SK64 Ninja Land" in this case. --[[User:KantoEpic|KantoEpic]] ([[User talk:KantoEpic|talk]]) 14:26, 23 December 2020 (UTC)

So I never took the time until now to look around for it, and I can't find where cup names are defined (To be clear, I have found where the first 8 cup's names are defined, as well as the 2 battle cups, but I can't find anything for the custom cups). I would appreciate being enlightened as to where this is at within the BMG files (I assume Common.bmg), or if it is even a thing at all! Thanks in advance. ::: I agree, this is probably the best way to handle it. Another way to possibly handle cases such as SNES Rainbow Road 2 is the way [[Cuberluigi CT Pack]] handled it, being "CSNES" (Custom SNES). Although personally, I think that it's fine to leave it at just SNES. [[User:Trainiax|Trainiax/SwampyGator]] ([[User talk:Trainiax|talk]]) 16:49, 23 December 2020 (UTC)

: Cups in LE-CODE have no name. The name (blue) and number (red) you see on the cup icons in Wiimms MKW Fun is just the cup icon. The cup name is empty for all cups, and that cannot be changed with BMG entries. -- [[User:Leseratte|Leseratte]] ([[User talk:Leseratte|talk]]) 13:36, 21 February 2020 (UTC)
+
:::: I added the choice »SK64« (for "SK64 Ninja Land") later and it's my favorite now. So I'll change the pages. I think, best is to leave the redirect to support external references. -- [[User:Wiimm|Wiimm]] ([[User talk:Wiimm|talk]]) 17:43, 23 December 2020 (UTC)

:: Thank you for the info. Yes I already understood that those were cup icons, so I guess no cup names then! It's nothing big of a problem that LE-CODE doesn't support cup name entries. [[User:JoshuaMK|JoshuaMK]] ([[User talk:JoshuaMK|talk]]) 18:07, 21 February 2020 (UTC)

== LE-CODE Crash While Scrolling Cups ==
+
Hi, I have seen there are some old CTGP tracks that currently do not have CTGP links to Wiimms CT Archive, such as [[Mountain Path]], [[Love Circuit]], [[Riverview Square]], [[Rocky Cliff]], [[Volcano Beach 3]], [[Lavaflow Volcano II]], [[GCN Baby Park (Tock)]] and [[Strobenz Desert]]. Will those CTGP tracks get the Wiimms CT Archive links sometime. Since most of the CTGP tracks are getting Wiimms CT Archive links currently.  -- [[User:Octanevinny|Octanevinny]] ([[User talk:Octanevinny|talk]]) 01:50, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

We are having an unknown crash while scrolling through cups in LE-CODE, which can be seen here: https://gyazo.com/d95e39e768dfd2d4c6e7bf68b0fd0134

: I can't follow you. Example [[Mountain Path]]: The wiki page contains 3 versions and ct.wiimm.de an additional ctgp version. Where is the missed link? -- [[User:Wiimm|Wiimm]] ([[User talk:Wiimm|talk]]) 12:18, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
I have the icons encoded as CMPR, and it is a 128 by 128*n tpl file, with n being the number of cups. Please help where you can, all info is appreciated! :) [[User:JoshuaMK|JoshuaMK]] ([[User talk:JoshuaMK|talk]]) 07:24, 25 February 2020 (UTC)

: The crash is outside LE-CODE. So analysis is a job for Leseratte. Anyway, please send me MenuSingle.szs. -- [[User:Wiimm|Wiimm]] ([[User talk:Wiimm|talk]]) 17:16, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
+
:: I actually meant the CTGP links for most of those tracks do not have CT distribution links yet in ct.wiimm.de. I was referring to the CT distribution, not the WBZ files. By the way, Kanto did Mountain Path yesterday. -- [[User:Octanevinny|Octanevinny]] ([[User talk:Octanevinny|talk]]) 05:54, 1 January 2021 (UTC)

:: The crash happens within the method <tt>__THPHuffDecodeDCTCompY</tt>, so I'd assume the game doesn't like the THP files you are using. -- [[User:Leseratte|Leseratte]] ([[User talk:Leseratte|talk]]) 17:19, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
+
::: When a track is added to the archive, it's SHA1 is checked against all existing distributions and if they match a link is created. Since I literally took those files from v1.03.0058 of CTGP, I think that the issue is with the distribution.txt submitted for the old CTGP versions, and they'd need to be remade. [[User:Trainiax|Trainiax/SwampyGator]] ([[User talk:Trainiax|talk]]) 06:17, 1 January 2021 (UTC)

::: In this case, I don't need MenuSingle.szs. -- [[User:Wiimm|Wiimm]] ([[User talk:Wiimm|talk]]) 17:55, 25 February 2020 (UTC)

Hello, I was wondering if you'd be able to enable a permission for moderators. From what I've gathered, administrators have the ability to move a page without creating a redirect, but regular moderators do not. Hi, I found that some old pages like [[Wiimms Mario Kart Fun 2011-06/Videos]] have several issues: some internal links are redlinks or link to disambiguation pages, many videos are missing. == About the new "open requests" page ==
 +
Hi, first of all, I think that was a great idea. Second, I think it would be best to have sections named something like "Missing Tracks", "Wrong Filenames" and "Other issues" (which could have subsections under it) plus a section for each common issue that I obviously missed, rather than a different meaningless title for each request. I guess we'll see if those titles you thought of will be useful, but for a message as short as "Bonita Harbor is missing the version name" I genuinely wouldn't know which title to put. Sorry if this message was too much overthinking. -- [[User:Cealgair|Cealgair]] ([[User talk:Cealgair|talk]]|[[Special:Contributions/Cealgair|contribs]]) 22:07, 18 March 2021 (UTC)

:::: Yes, it is very likely Windows only. When I run the simplest command: wstrt patch main.dol --add-section RMCE01.gct

: Now that I think about it, I think that the "Wrong Filenames" section should actually be a table with three columns: one for the id, one for the old filename, and one with the suggested one. This way the section would be uniform rather than having a bunch of noise given by signatures, lines and English words. -- [[User:Cealgair|Cealgair]] ([[User talk:Cealgair|talk]]|[[Special:Contributions/Cealgair|contribs]]) 22:16, 18 March 2021 (UTC)

== Inconsistency in 2014-01. ==

== About the current state of the wiki and LE-CODE ==
+
Hey Wiimm. As we were updating the page for [[Wiimms Mario Kart Fun 2014-01]], we realized that while on ct.wiimm.de it says that "LEGO Racing Imperial Grand Prix" was in slot 24.1, according to the "track-list.txt" in the download, it's in slot 30.4. We'd like to know which is correct to make the page accurate. Thanks, [[User:Trainiax|Trainiax/SwampyGator]] ([[User talk:Trainiax|talk]]) 18:55, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
Hi, in the first few months I was a huge fan of the le-code project you and Leseratte are working on. It seemed like a great way to have a public code base where we can add features to without having to worry about the limitations of Mario kart Wii, while keeping an uniform standard. However, now we are one year further, I'm not that enthousiastic anymore. Sure, it's still a great way for distribution makers to make distributions, but it's not more than that. Nobody has any say in what is getting added or not, nobody has any say in how things are loaded and nobody has any say in how native Mario Kart Wii formats are altered to support this '''closed source''' project.
+
: I verified it now. It's curios, but both are correct! In the beginning, "LEGO-R" was not a known prefix and so the track was sorted under "L". The later update sorted it under "R". From the current view, 30.4 is more correct. I already save SHA1 lists in slot order, but I ignore them until now. Maybe I have to save the prefix list to avoid such incompatible sorting.
 +
: Anyway, it doesn't matter for online gaming, because you can't play online with any of these version. -- [[User:Wiimm|Wiimm]] ([[User talk:Wiimm|talk]]) 11:49, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

The wiki starts becoming one big shameless advertisement for your code loader, and that saddens me. You can't just make CT creators, distribution creators and even software developers change how they have to create their content just because you decided that's how it's going to work. All the struggle Joshua is facing above just confirms it, it should not be next to impossible to add own alterations to MKW if LE-CODE is running as well.

: My comment is not truth at all: Before "LEGO" was the prefix (sorted under "R"), then "LEGO-R" (sorted under "I"). So 24.1 is the better choice. -- [[User:Wiimm|Wiimm]] ([[User talk:Wiimm|talk]]) 14:01, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

I still appreciate all the hard work, I really do, and I still see a lot of potential in this project.There is just one thing I'm asking for: make it open source. Allow distribution creators to choose how they are going to implement it, don't just claim a huge block in memory as your own and say that that is forbidden territory if you still want Wiimmfi, but keep things open. Either that, or do not advertise it as a de facto standard that it isn't.
+
:: I checked the distribution in game this morning and it was sorted under R, so I put it in the same place on [[Wiimms Mario Kart Fun 2014-01]]. [[User:MarkAlbertsma03|Krummers(#1936)]] ([[User talk:MarkAlbertsma03|talk]]) 14:17, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

Hello [[Wiimm]], I would like to remind you that [[Daydream]] v2.1 is not yet on the Custom Track Reference :). {{sig|KiwiPowerGreen}}

: I don't see it like you. In general, all [[LE-CODE]] extension are designed as additional features for the track authors. If not running LE-CODE, the track will function. So LE-CODE changes only the default behavior, that can be overridden by cheat codes (same as Original MKW). Example ''extended presence flags'': An object can be enabled/disabled by a new condition. When I defined it, I made sure that you can determine for each object whether it works in the standard code. So a track creator can decide by its own, to use the features of LE-CODE, or only some of them. Incidentally, most of the properties eliminate errors that have arisen due to the creativity of the creators. Examples are ''scaled Gomba'' and the enlargement of the item positions online.
+
: Please post any other requests for his Archive [[Wiimm's Custom Archive/Open requests|here]]. I already did the one you mentioned above. [[User:MarkAlbertsma03|Krummers(#1936)]] ([[User talk:MarkAlbertsma03|talk]]) 10:42, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
: You are right on one point: I use the wiki intensively to draw attention to LE-CODE. I've always done that: In the beginning it was the videos from CT until others created the videos. Technical innovations such as quadrilaterals for checkpoints I also advertised in similar way. The wiki is full of my promotions, of which I have no personal advantage. People should just be made aware of what is still possible.

: One kind of advertising are the logos. I added them to make visually clean, that this is an extension not supported by standard code.

: Open source is a different topic and is actually independent of the other things. Bean and Leseratte work closely together here. And to my knowledge, they are the only ones who know the internals of MKW at the high level. They also implemented the Wiimmfi patcher that protects the Wii for destructive attacks while playing online. I myself have no idea of the interior details and always ask for support. It doesn't help that I have access (can read and write) to the sources. I concentrate more on the algorithmic work. Ultimately, it is a decision by the bookworm (and possibly Bean, who contributed the code). People can always ask for features.

:: A few comments about that:
+
:: I watch the page, but in the last weeks I was very busy to implement the [https://forum.wii-homebrew.com/index.php/Thread/60298-Accessing-Wiimmfi-in-MKWii-with-just-a-custom-DNS/ new Wiimmfi feature]. -- [[User:Wiimm|Wiimm]] ([[User talk:Wiimm|talk]]) 13:37, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
:: - All file format changes we did were documented in the wiki during development, and we talked to multiple track creators and to MrBean to ask for comments or improvements prior to finalizing the formats. Also, it's a wiki. If you have concerns or want to add comments, write on the talk pages - that's one of the reasons why we are adding this kind of information to the Wiki. For example, we started working on the presence flag definition on January 1st - and announced that in the wiiki news on January 10th, and nobody bothered to read it and leave comments on things to improve.

:: - Yeah, the Wiki is becoming "advertisement" for the code loader. Same as it is advertisement for all the CT tracks, custom distributions, and tools that are provided here. What's the difference?

:: - I am not excluding anyone from adding these features to another distribution. Everyone can use the released LE-CODE binaries, I talked to MrBean and I'm willing to give him the full source code if he wants to integrate the features into CTGP (so far he didn't, probably because he was busy with his 24p mod), I did provide parts of the code to people who asked me about how I implemented a particular code. And if anyone has a question how a particular feature is implemented, I'll gladly share that part. I just do not want to release the full source code of the project that I wrote, and that is my right.

:: - I am by far not the only person who does closed-source stuff. Lots and lots of the tools on the wiki - excluding Wiimms ISO and SZS tools - are closed-source, some track creators even use private tools they don't publish. CTGP is closed-source as well - and that can't even be integrated into other distributions, so it's even more closed.

:: - There are certain parts of code in the LE-CODE and in the Wiimmfi update (more so in the Wiimmfi update, but still some in LE-CODE, too) that are security related, which we just don't want to get public.

:: - The issue joshua was facing is that Wiimms SZS tools had a bug that caused it to crash when it occurs certain, rarely used GCT cheat code forms. That has absolutely nothing to do with LE-CODE. LE-CODE and its loader don't prevent you from loading additional mods at all. You can add your own cheat codes just fine, next to the LE-CODE loader in the 80001800 range, or at the end of MEM1, like it was always done in the past. LE-CODE doesn't change anything about that.

:: - We are not forcing CT creators to do anything. But for CT creators who do want to use certain new features in LE-CODE distributions, we now give them the ability to do so. You are free to ignore LE-CODE and continue creating tracks like you used to. We are also not forcing distribution creators to do anything different. You are free to build a ct-code distribution. We also aren't forcing tool authors to change anything - we are encouraging them to adhere to the Nintendo file format, which (incidentally) they didn't in the past. Old versions of Wiimms SZS tools, from before we even had the idea of LE-CODE, work fine with LE-CODE - because they fully adhere to the standard. We are merely adding onto the standard, in a compatible way. That's why LE-CODE tracks still work in the vanilla game, and why old tools of Wiimm still work with these tracks. Other tools just don't work properly because they are buggy, and that's what we asked the creators to fix.

:: - Also, the ct-code has now been open-source for about 6 years. How many code changes have been done to that in the meantime, from people other than Bean, Chadderz, Wiimm or me? One small bugfix in 2015, that was it. It's not like there would be huge amounts of developers contibuting a bunch of content to LE-CODE if it were open-source.

:: - We are not claiming a bunch of code as our territory if you want Wiimmfi. You are perfectly able to build CT distributions for Wiimmfi without LE-CODE. But when you want to load LE-CODE, it's going to need space in memory, same as with any other mod. That has nothing to do with claiming "forbidden territory".

::: @Wiimm: I think you're underestimating how much talent there is in this community, there are plenty of people with decent assembly/coding skills and there absolutely are more people who know a lot about the fundamentals of the game, or at least have the skill to learn about it. The reason I have started this thread is because of that; LE-CODE is advertised as a code loader. I really thought it would allow many more programmers to make mods with it. However, the exact opposite is happening now: it has become harder to make mods.
+
== {{obj-ref|0x217|mdush}} ==
::: Furthermore, I will try to explain myself the best I can, forgive any ambiguities. There are very clear differences between adding your custom track or mod to a list and making a page for it and basically taking over the complete technical side of the wiki. More and more technical pages are altered for LE-CODE exclusive features, which basically means the information about the file format is not entirely correct anymore. It really is not the same as an isolated page for a ct or just adding a tool to a tutorial.
+
The description of {{obj-ref|0x217|mdush}} says <nowiki>''small jump ramp from Mario Circuit and Moo Moo Meadows''</nowiki>, but mDush isn't actually used on Moo Moo Meadows. -- [[User:KiwiPowerGreen|KiwiPowerGreen]] ([[User talk:KiwiPowerGreen|talk]]) 06:29, 2 June 2021 (UTC)
::: About the source, I do not expect you to make everything open source, there will always be things that are completely irrelevant for other coders that want to pick certain features. However, like I said above, there are many talented coders in this community who might want to take x and y from  LE-CODE, but without having to do z, or want to implement z in a different way. And they can't, it's all or nothing and without the necessary time and reverse engineering skills they won't be able to do anything about it. You're forcing people to use the whole pack, with everything that comes with it exactly like you have intended it to be.
+
: You are right about Moo Moo Meadows. But the online data is just a copy of [[Object]] that I make occasionally. So please edit the page -- [[User:Wiimm|Wiimm]] ([[User talk:Wiimm|talk]]) 14:23, 2 June 2021 (UTC)
::: In my eyes there is one major difference between the old ct-code and your adaptation, being just the way it works. ct-code added track slots, did a terrible job at it and some minor changes like lapcount. LE-CODE meanwhile comes with an amazing amount of features, of which many require custom track creators to take action in order to make use of it. It has much more potential for many branches of the community. And yes, maybe it won't see many contributions, but you'll still allow everyone who wants to work with it to take it and change it to what they want.
+

::: You're basically creating a monopoly with the way things are going right now, intended or not. And that's actually perfectly fine in my eyes, in my opinion one uniform course of the community will bring much more progress than closing things altogether like CTGP, but this is just not the way to do it. All that is communicated right now is 'LE-CODE uses memory at 0x808dd400, and somewhere after it Wiimmfi needs room, so don't use it if you want Wiimmfi'. Other than that it's very strange that Wiimmfi needs that space to function (I know the reasoning behind it, and there is something to say in favour of it) it is not communicated at all. How much room is used? How much room is there for own code? Right now the advice is to just use space used by the stack. Which is not a very nice solution in my opinion.
+
== For Intermezzo ==
::: The tools that are not working with the new formats are not breaking that new format because they are coded in a wrong manner. They have all the right to ignore proven padding, since they are not created with changes to those fixed formats in mind. Even my recent code does nothing with that padding. So basically you are forcing them to adapt. Again; nothing wrong with that if there is one agreed upon format by the community, but a very different story if it happens behind closed doors. And I'm aware of that proposal by Wiimm for the presence flags, I even gave my own opinion about it and I will say that was a great course of action.
+
[[Mushroom Grove]] --[[User:Snake|Snake]] ([[User talk:Snake|talk]]) 19:26, 10 August 2021 (UTC)
::: To finish it off; I will stay consistent, I strongly disagree with anyone who keeps tools they used private for no reason at all. I think that's nothing more than rudeness towards everyone else. All distribution creators must according to the wiki rules make sure the tracks inside them are available as well, and all tracks are basically outlawed to be modified in the worst way possible. Meanwhile it must be completely fine to alter all technical pages on the wiki to promote your own code loader without any funcitonality of it being available to the public. I just can't understand that. I do not agree with the fact that some very handy CTGP features are kept locked either. Features that really make your content stand out can be kept private, it would be very weird to ask for that to be any different, but you could really help many others by opening up what's not as important. Everything that is built comes out of a 10-year old progress of research, development and most importantly sharing. Without this wiki many things would not have happened, and this wiki too is built upon the idea that people want to share. The development branch of this community lacks any of that, very few functions are made public, almost everyone has to start from square zero and the wheel had to be reinvented many times. I have my own ideas to tackle this, have actually set some things in motion already, but I can't do it alone. It would really be a very great gift to the community if things are made more open, starting off with what probably is the largest step this community can make: one standarised base that supports custom functionality for the game.

I had a chat with [[Trainiax]] on Discord, and he told me that these texture hacks are being tested mainly by him and Krummers, whereas tracks on the Archive are tested by you, so I guess that's why they can't be added to the Archive. == Version Numbers ==
 +
On every page on the Wiiki, we have standardized version numbers to include at least one decimal point when it is a "v*" style release. [[Wiimms Mario Kart History 2021-12]] should not be any different, it should be "v1.0" and not "v1" to match with the entirety of the rest of the Wiiki. You say that it was because of the fact that a possible new version would instead become "v2 / v2.0", but that would not be an issue by including the ".0" part. For example, [[Ancient Ruins (Luigi Circuit Texture)]] goes from "v1.0" to "v2.0" to "v3.0", instead of "v1.0" to "v1.1" to "v1.2". I don't want to cause an edit war, especially not between moderators, so for now I'm going to leave the page as it is until you get a chance to read this. --[[User:Trainiax|Trainiax/SwampyGator]] ([[User talk:Trainiax|talk]] | [[Special:Contributions/Trainiax|contribs]]) 01:32, 19 December 2021 (UTC)

 +
: I don't believe it! Some authors use "v1.01" or "v.1.1" or "v1.1.1" or "v1.01.2" or "v.1.1b". So the author decides how to number the version. In case of MKW-Fun I only used and will use whole integers without fraction. This number is used for the download file, in ISO image and within the distribution.
 +
: An exception is ct.wiimm.de, where it is more important to keep versions numbers short as possible because the very hard name length limit.

Since you are the technical administrator of the Custom Mario Kart Wiiki, I felt I should report the issue with you.

I have recently changed my account email to a new address. One that I actually use and get notified on whenever I receive new email.
 +
This is helpful as I wish to stay up-to-date with changes on pages I watch. Gmail however is not a fan the mails sent and the messages are filtered under "spam".

This prevents Gmail from notifying me from any messages sent by the wiki.

I don't know if this is something Google is doing wrong, or if its on the Wiki's side. But I thought it best to mention. It might be of help troubleshooting.

== Request for new LEX file section "CTDN" ==
 +

 +
For CTs that are too long or too short, it would be helpful to have a section to specify a time limit for the countdown mode.
 +

 +
I have analyzed CTGP 1.03 with [https://github.com/GnomedDev/track-pack-generator/blob/master/decrypter.py this script].
 +

 +
I found that it defines a countdown mode timer in files of 0x200 bytes each named {{code|countdownLimits150.bin}} and {{code|countdownLimits200.bin}}.
 +

 +
Here is the format for {{code|countdownLimitsXXX.bin}}.
 +

 +
{| class="textbox grid"
 +
|+ format for {{code|countdownLimitsXXX.bin}}.
 +
|-
 +
! Offset !! Type !! Description
 +
|-
 +
| 0x00 + 2 * courseSlot || uint8 || timer minutes (typically 2)
 +
|-
 +
| 0x01 + 2 * courseSlot || uint8 || timer seconds (typically 30)
 +
|}
 +

 +
Therefore, I suggest a new section <tt>CTDN</tt> in the following format.
 +

 +
===<tt>CTDN</tt> : countdown mode timer settings ===
 +

 +
{| class="textbox grid"
 +

 +
! Offset !! Type !! Description

 +
|-
 +
| 0x01 || uint8 || timer seconds for non 200cc
 +
|-
 +
| 0x02 || uint8 || timer minutes for 200cc
 +
|-
 +
| 0x03 || uint8 || timer seconds for 200cc

: This makes only sense, if the executor (like CTGP or LE-CODE) support both CD and LEX. In detail, Bean must have at least plans to support LEX files. And if I were to introduce the LEX section, I would only set one parameter in seconds for all CC classes (50cc, 100cc, 150cc, ≥200cc). -- [[User:Wiimm|Wiimm]] ([[User talk:Wiimm|talk]]) 22:49, 9 October 2023 (UTC)

:: I am not asking LE-CODE and CTGP to implement this. I have the technology to create GeckoCode from the C language, so I will implement this myself. I just want this to be formally defined to ensure that the "CTDN" ID will not conflict in the future. There are many shortcuts in CT that are only possible for 200cc, so the time limit needs to be changed between 200cc and non-200cc. The only reason I set the time in minutes and seconds is because that's what CTGP does, so I thought I'd do the same. It would not be a bad idea to set only the number of seconds as you suggest. In that case, a minimum of 16 bits would be required to set the seconds (because 255 seconds may not be enough). -- [[User:Kazuki|Kazuki]] ([[User talk:Kazuki|talk]]) 23:41, 9 October 2023 (UTC)

Menu/Race Character Length

I was told by Trainiax that the character limit is 32 for menus and 64 for race/battle previews, not 41 for either one of them. I am not sure which one is true. --KantoEpic (talk) 01:19, 18 December 2020 (UTC)

Are you refering to the maximum amount of characters in a track name (in the track selection and in the race preview)? If so, Trainiax might have tested with LE-CODE / MKW-Fun, where we increased that limit in order to make that work with longer track names. -- Leseratte (talk) 05:50, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
Spot on. --KantoEpic (talk) 06:22, 18 December 2020 (UTC)

SBK ambiguity

Hi, I found that SBK can mean both Snowboard Kids and Super Baldy Kart, the former being an N64 game and the latter a Super Mario Kart ROM hack. Four tracks from the ROM hack are labeled on ct.wiimm.de as tracks from the N64 game, i.e. Egypt A and B (families 7966 and 7973) and Tropics A and B (families 7991 and 7992). I don't think it's a big deal. I don't know how easy this would be, but there could be a new keyword for tracks from SNES ROM hacks to include all of these tracks plus some others like SNES Rainbow Road 2 (family 4862), which is currently labeled as just a Super Mario Kart Track, and a whole lot of other tracks by Retrostyle12 in general. Or maybe another fix would be to just remove the prefixes SNES and SBK from those paricular tracks (or maybe treat them as part of the name?). Cealgair (talk) 12:08, 23 December 2020 (UTC)

Good point! I want to discuss 2 solutions:
  1. Because SBK Ninja Land is the oldest track, we should use another abbreviation for Super Baldy Kart, eg, »SUBK« or »SBKA«.
  2. »SBK« seems to be a natural abbreviation for Super Baldy Kart, and »SK« or »NSK« or »SK64« for N64 Snowboard Kids.
Renaming on ct.wiimm.de or changing the prefix description is done very fast. Until now, all abbreviations have been chosen with care. But this is a common job for admins and mods — I will follow the decisions here until they are clear and full of logic.
I ask the other moderators for this!!
-- Wiimm (talk) 13:26, 23 December 2020 (UTC)
"SBK Ninja Land" should be renamed to "SK64 Ninja Land" in this case. --KantoEpic (talk) 14:26, 23 December 2020 (UTC)
I agree, this is probably the best way to handle it. Another way to possibly handle cases such as SNES Rainbow Road 2 is the way Cuberluigi CT Pack handled it, being "CSNES" (Custom SNES). Although personally, I think that it's fine to leave it at just SNES. Trainiax/SwampyGator (talk) 16:49, 23 December 2020 (UTC)
I added the choice »SK64« (for "SK64 Ninja Land") later and it's my favorite now. So I'll change the pages. I think, best is to leave the redirect to support external references. -- Wiimm (talk) 17:43, 23 December 2020 (UTC)

Old CTGP Tracks missing Wiimms CT Archive link

Hi, I have seen there are some old CTGP tracks that currently do not have CTGP links to Wiimms CT Archive, such as Mountain Path, Love Circuit, Riverview Square, Rocky Cliff, Volcano Beach 3, Lavaflow Volcano II, GCN Baby Park (Tock) and Strobenz Desert. Will those CTGP tracks get the Wiimms CT Archive links sometime. Since most of the CTGP tracks are getting Wiimms CT Archive links currently. -- Octanevinny (talk) 01:50, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

I can't follow you. Example Mountain Path: The wiki page contains 3 versions and ct.wiimm.de an additional ctgp version. Where is the missed link? -- Wiimm (talk) 12:18, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
I actually meant the CTGP links for most of those tracks do not have CT distribution links yet in ct.wiimm.de. I was referring to the CT distribution, not the WBZ files. By the way, Kanto did Mountain Path yesterday. -- Octanevinny (talk) 05:54, 1 January 2021 (UTC)
When a track is added to the archive, it's SHA1 is checked against all existing distributions and if they match a link is created. Since I literally took those files from v1.03.0058 of CTGP, I think that the issue is with the distribution.txt submitted for the old CTGP versions, and they'd need to be remade. Moderator Right

Hello, I was wondering if you'd be able to enable a permission for moderators. From what I've gathered, administrators have the ability to move a page without creating a redirect, but regular moderators do not. Is it possible for you to give us that permission as technical administrator? It would reduce some work for us since we always just delete the page manually afterwards. Thank you, Trainiax/SwampyGator (talk) 04:01, 23 January 2021 (UTC)

I'll trey in the next week. I had (and have) a febrile flu for the past week (not Corvid-19). Do you know the rights name= -- Wiimm (talk) 19:25, 24 January 2021 (UTC)

Hello, I was wondering if you'd be able to enable another permission for moderators. this time the option to revert more than one edit on a individual page. From what I have gathered, administrators also have the ability to revert more than one edit on a individual page, but regular moderators actually do not. Is it possible for you to give us that permission as technical administrator aswell?. It would reduce some more work for us since we have to manually edit the individual page instead to correct everything up back to the way it was previously in an older edit, Thanks. By the way, I found this: Quickly rollback the edits of the last user who edited a particular page (rollback). --Octanevinny (talk) 14:59, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

Edit: Tock already enabled it for us now, so were fine with it now. Octanevinny (talk) 15:52, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

Old pages

Hi, I found that some old pages like Wiimms Mario Kart Fun 2011-06/Videos have several issues: some internal links are redlinks or link to disambiguation pages, many videos are missing. I think it will take some time to fix all of that, so I'm here to ask if you think it's worth it or if you think those pages are superfluous and might as well be deleted. -- Cealgair (talk|contribs) 12:20, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

The site is now 10 years old. Therefore, it could also be removed completely. On the other hand, there are some videos from old tracks, which is interesting. I would therefore be fine with removing the page as well as adding new video. -- Wiimm (talk) 18:06, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
All things considered I think I'll leave them as they are for now. -- Cealgair (talk|contribs) 16:23, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
The moderators and I have been discussing the topic. We've come to the conclusion that those pages are unnecessary and will be deleted. I have taken the task on me to go through the entire Wiimms Mario Kart Fun series and update the pages to current standards. If anyone wants to help, that would be appreciated. 🏁_____🌲______🚗_____🌳 Krummers (talk) 11:15, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
As already told, I'm fine with this conclusion. -- Wiimm (talk) 17:36, 14 March 2021 (UTC)

An issue when shifting a track to fix Item Position Bug

Hi, there is one problem when I did shift the track, Vesuvio's Inferno, to fix the Item Position Bug in an update that is currently being worked on, the whole course model was shifted, but the casino_roulette object which was originally below the Thwomp did not move anywhere at all with the course model. Help would be very appreciating. Octanevinny (talk) 07:09, 9 March 2021 (UTC)

There are some (or 1= objects that can be moved. casino_roulette is one of them. Sniki has much experience with it because of tracks Marble Towers, Glimmer Express Trains and Wiimmfi Station. -- Wiimm (talk) 17:35, 14 March 2021 (UTC)

About the new "open requests" page

Hi, first of all, I think that was a great idea. Second, I think it would be best to have sections named something like "Missing Tracks", "Wrong Filenames" and "Other issues" (which could have subsections under it) plus a section for each common issue that I obviously missed, rather than a different meaningless title for each request. I guess we'll see if those titles you thought of will be useful, but for a message as short as "Bonita Harbor is missing the version name" I genuinely wouldn't know which title to put. Sorry if this message was too much overthinking. -- Cealgair (talk|contribs) 22:07, 18 March 2021 (UTC)

Now that I think about it, I think that the "Wrong Filenames" section should actually be a table with three columns: one for the id, one for the old filename, and one with the suggested one. This way the section would be uniform rather than having a bunch of noise given by signatures, lines and English words. -- Cealgair (talk|contribs) 22:16, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
I see the issue was solved -- Cealgair (talk|contribs) 10:25, 19 March 2021 (UTC)
That was one resoan for to create the new pages. -- Wiimm (talk) 15:21, 19 March 2021 (UTC)

Inconsistency in 2014-01.

Hey Wiimm. As we were updating the page for Wiimms Mario Kart Fun 2014-01, we realized that while on ct.wiimm.de it says that "LEGO Racing Imperial Grand Prix" was in slot 24.1, according to the "track-list.txt" in the download, it's in slot 30.4. We'd like to know which is correct to make the page accurate. Thanks, Trainiax/SwampyGator (talk) 18:55, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

I verified it now.
Anyway, it doesn't matter for online gaming, because you can't play online with any of these version. -- Wiimm (talk) 11:49, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
My comment is not truth at all: Before "LEGO" was the prefix (sorted under "R"), then "LEGO-R" (sorted under "I"). So 24.1 is the better choice. -- Wiimm (talk) 14:01, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
I checked the distribution in game this morning and it was sorted under R, so I put it in the same place on Wiimms Mario Kart Fun 2014-01. Krummers(#1936) (talk) 14:17, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

Downloads per hour from ct.wiimm.de

Hi, I know that the Archive only allows you to download up to 20 wbz files per hour. I noticed that if I ask the Archive to download zip files containing ten tracks each (example), then I can download more than 2 of those zip files per hour, and thus more than 20 tracks per hour. I'm here to ask if this is intended and if you're okay with me exploiting this in a future release of Cealgair's CT Downloader, especially considering that there's a Windows port in the works and that more people might use it in the future. -- Cealgair (talk|contribs) 17:28, 18 September 2021 (UTC)

Have you seen my comment on WBZ Converter?

Almost two months ago, I had added a problem specifically with converting the WBZ for Lava Fortress (Ugotowned35000vr) to SZS, in order to add a download link, and I'm only now adding this here as I still haven't been able to find a solution/workaround. Would you be able to look into this yourself and potentially find out what's going on? Thanks. Tragiic (talk | contribs) 19:33, 18 October 2021 (UTC)

About collecting texture hacks

Hi, I've noticed the page Talk:List of Texture Hacked Tracks/Collecting Tracks and I downloaded the filesystem template. After reading the introduction, I wanted to ask whether track edits should be left out or included in directories 4 and 5. I also wanted to ask what your preferred method of receiving the zip file at the end is. -- Cealgair (talk|contribs) 10:21, 16 November 2021 (UTC)

In the meantime, I have completed DS Twilight House. The only two edits I found are already on the Archive, so I didn't bother with them and I just included the textures. I uploaded the zip file on Google Drive. Please let me know if there are any errors. And again, let me know what your preferred method of receiving the zip file is. -- Cealgair (talk|contribs) 10:56, 16 November 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for your help!! Include edits in 4 or 5. About ZIP: Give me a download link either here or as private message @ wii-homebrew.com -- Wiimm (talk) 11:07, 16 November 2021 (UTC)
I have updated the zip file at the same link as before (Google Drive). I added N64 Bowser's Castle and moved two hacks of DS Twilight House from 2 to 4. As I'll move on, I'll just keep updating the same zip file, so the link will not change. I won't send you a message here every time because you will be able to see my progress by looking at the history of Talk:List of Texture Hacked Tracks/Collecting Tracks. -- Cealgair (talk|contribs) 18:03, 16 November 2021 (UTC)

That's right, you missed the discussion about it. The (first?) goal is to ban so-called texture hacks on Wiimmfi, which are unfair. Therefore, all tracks from the Wiiki are categorized in a first step. -- Wiimm (talk) 22:26, 27 November 2021 (UTC)
Thanks. Krummers informed me about this (see my talk page). To be honest I started giving my help to this project because I thought they were going on the Archive, but I still finished because I had time and I still think this was a good thing to do. I had a chat with Trainiax on Discord, and he told me that these texture hacks are being tested mainly by him and Krummers, whereas tracks on the Archive are tested by you, so I guess that's why they can't be added to the Archive. One idea could be to add a "texture" class to the Archive (alongside "select" and so on), to clarify that those are texture hacks that you added for preservation purposes but that you didn't test yourself. -- Cealgair (talk|contribs) 10:24, 28 November 2021 (UTC)
The "texture" class on ct.wiimm.de is already an idea (mid/long term). -- Wiimm (talk) 19:29, 28 November 2021 (UTC)

Version Numbers

On every page on the Wiiki, we have standardized version numbers to include at least one decimal point when it is a "v*" style release. Wiimms Mario Kart History 2021-12 should not be any different, it should be "v1.0" and not "v1" to match with the entirety of the rest of the Wiiki. You say that it was because of the fact that a possible new version would instead become "v2 / v2.0", but that would not be an issue by including the ".0" part. For example, Ancient Ruins (Luigi Circuit Texture) goes from "v1.0" to "v2.0" to "v3.0", instead of "v1.0" to "v1.1" to "v1.2". I don't want to cause an edit war, especially not between moderators, so for now I'm going to leave the page as it is until you get a chance to read this. --Trainiax/SwampyGator (talk | contribs) 01:32, 19 December 2021 (UTC)

I don't believe it!
An exception is ct.wiimm.de, where it is more important to keep versions numbers short as possible because the very hard name length limit.

Email

Hello. Since you are the technical administrator of the Custom Mario Kart Wiiki, I felt I should report the issue with you. I have recently changed my account email to a new address. One that I actually use and get notified on whenever I receive new email.

Screenshot from Phoxy's Email Client.png

These are some of the messages I've missed. This screenshot was taken from my Spam folder.

Hopefully, this may be resolved soon. I will look into things on my side. If anything changes, I'll be sure to let you know.

Request for new LEX file section "CTDN"

For CTs that are too long or too short, it would be helpful to have a section to specify a time limit for the countdown mode.

I have analyzed CTGP 1.03 with this script.

I found that it defines a countdown mode timer in files of 0x200 bytes each named countdownLimits150.bin and countdownLimits200.bin.

Here is the format for countdownLimitsXXX.bin.

format for countdownLimitsXXX.bin.
Offset Type Description
0x00 + 2 * courseSlot uint8 timer minutes (typically 2)
0x01 + 2 * courseSlot uint8 timer seconds (typically 30)

Therefore, I suggest a new section CTDN in the following format.

CTDN : countdown mode timer settings

Data of section »CTDN« (ID 0x4354444e)
Offset Type Description
0x00 uint8 timer minutes for non 200cc
0x01 uint8 timer seconds for non 200cc
0x02 uint8 timer minutes for 200cc
0x03 uint8 timer seconds for 200cc
0x04 End of section

Sorry for my bad English. -- Kazuki (talk) 20:51, 9 October 2023 (UTC)

This makes only sense, if the executor (like CTGP or LE-CODE) support both CD and LEX. In detail, Bean must have at least plans to support LEX files. And if I were to introduce the LEX section, I would only set one parameter in seconds for all CC classes (50cc, 100cc, 150cc, ≥200cc). -- Wiimm (talk) 22:49, 9 October 2023 (UTC)
I am not asking LE-CODE and CTGP to implement this. -- Kazuki (talk) 23:41, 9 October 2023 (UTC)

Sorry, I have never used wii.homebrew.com and could not figure out how to do private chat on wii.homebrew.com. And I will tell you that I have completed my implementation. This is the code I created. -- Kazuki (talk) 20:55, 10 October 2023 (UTC)
