Gone... for a long time.
As of October 21st, 2022, I have officially retired from Mario Kart Wii modding. To know the reasons of my departure, read this document. Fellow CT creators JadenMKW, Questorian, Justin and emanresU have also elaborated on the reasons I left, so I suggest you also see what they have to say. It's been 4 years of ups and downs, and I had lots of fun creating small worlds within these tracks, as well as learning how the game works at a level I never thought possible. I made lots of fun memories while playing and interacting with the community, even with how chaotic it is. If you wish to see more of me, I may continue making videos and mods on other games. Thanks to everyone that played and enjoyed my tracks, it means a lot. Go to the bottom of this page for assets I decided to publicly share, I hope they may be of use to someone. Take care everyone.

AltairYoshi's Profile Picture.png

Hey there! I'm AltairYoshi, or simply Altair! I'm a big fan of everything Nintendo and especially the Mario series. I have a variety of hobbies, such as art, video editing, gaming, and of course modding! I've been modding games since 2018, predominantly the Mario Kart series.

Most of my tracks are made in Blender. My primary track design motto is to make tracks that really feel like places in the Mario universe when it comes to their settings and themes, with gameplay that aims to be somewhat interesting, and fair for all vehicles and players. I'm not very skilled at the game, so high level strats and cuts are not to be expected of my tracks. Above all, I enjoy making visually appealing tracks and exploring the wide variety of KMP objects the game offers. While I no longer mod this game, I hope to carry these principles to any other creations I make.

Regarding my tracks

You may...

  • Add them to a distribution. Thank you if you do!
  • Make minor bug fix updates. Broken checkpoints, CPU issues, small visual hiccups, etc.
  • Take objects, models and textures, with the exception of Tour Merry Mountain. I usually just use textures from Nintendo and other games, but the few original textures I have made are fair game. As for models, I'm okay with stuff like signs or decoration assets being taken, I spent time making some of them and would be happy if someone else can make use of them. That said, do not lift major parts of track models. Below is a list of models and objects you are totally free to use; just make sure to credit me. The reason Merry Mountain is excluded is because a lot of textures, models and objects in it were made by Luca. If you wish to use these objects, I suggest asking him.

You may not...

  • Make major gameplay changing updates to any of my tracks. I would like all my tracks to stay as they are. This especially applies to Puzzle Plank Pass and Sarasa Kingdom, as they have been designed by other people and the designer of Sarasa wishes the track to stay as it is now. If you want to change anything in tracks that are collabs with other creators, contact them if possible.

Fun facts about me!

  • I'm from Puerto Rico, and Spanish is my native language.
  • Yoshi is my favorite character ever. (shocker!)
  • My favorite games are Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, and Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective. I also love basically all games in the Ace Attorney series.
  • I started out modeling with SketchUp before switching to Blender in 2019.
  • Super Mario Galaxy modding is the reason I even mod games today, but I'm yet to make a proper mod for it. Hopefully soon!
  • I've tinkered with almost every file format we can edit in this game, for the sake of fun.

Models and Objects

Here's a list of models and custom objects I've used in my tracks, free for anyone to use and tinker with. It'd be really nice if these could be of use to someone else. Just make sure to credit me in the wiki page of your track if you use them.

  • Starshroom: A floating drivable Starshroom that goes over the VolcanoRock1 object. Comes in two colors, and the materials are highly customizable! Read the attached text document for details.
  • Grinder: The pesky saws from several Mario games, goes over the Goomba object.
  • Wooden Debris: A recreation of the wooden debris seen floating around in Puzzle Plank Galaxy. Goes over the InsekiA object.
  • Starship Mario: These renders come from the SMG2 credits. I made all 3 into an easy to use object, over Crescent64.
  • Snowmen: A port of the snowman obstacles seen in Mario Kart Tour, goes over the object MDush. Has a wall collision, but this can be changed by editing the KCL file.
  • Spectator Yoshis: A handful of Yoshis cheering from the sidelines, replacing the Toad spectator object (group_enemy_c). Unfortunately they still make Toad sounds, but it's not a big deal.
  • Colorful Hills: A recreation of the colorful hills seen in many Mario games of the Wii era, using their Mario Party 9 texture.
  • Arrow Signs: Two arrow signs modeled by me, they appear in several tracks. The metal arrow also includes the respective material and shader so you can perfectly import the metal env map, if you please.
  • Galaxy Skybox + Tutorial: Everything you need to make your very own galaxy skybox, like the one in my DS Nintendo DS arena! I feel this has potential to make some for some pretty backdrops, so I put up a small guide on how to set up your galaxy sky as well as the needed material and shader.

Have fun with these!
