Overview

Altepeyolko (Foundations of Eternity) is a custom track created by Strobenz. It is the final track in the author's Chronocup, which is set in a brutalist cyberpunk city in the year 2325, whose aesthetic follows the Neo Seoul story from the film Cloud Atlas. The track relies heavily on Aztec philosophy and architecture, mainly the concepts of Teotl – the unifying energy in motion that shapes the whole universe, Ollin – the motion that represents weaving and cyclic forces, and Nepantla – the "in-between", a state of transitioning between places, perspectives or realities. There are statues of the Aztec deities Tláloc and Quetzalcōātl, an image of Mictlāntēcutli and several other textures which were edited from photographs taken by the author at the National Museum of Anthropology and the Templo Mayor Museum, both located in Mexico City. The music used in the original release video is titled "The Final Race" and was made specifically for the track by Mexican darksynth artist Death Selektor.

Slot Information

It is not recommended to put this track on the Rainbow Road slot, as Bullet Bills will not work properly.

Trivia

  • The subtitle "Foundations of Eternity" is a reference to the Itzcoatl poem, which talks about Tenochtitlan preparing for war and asks "Who could conquer Tenochtitlan? Who could shake the foundations of heaven?". It was added for people who might find the word "Altepeyolko" too hard to pronounce.
  • There is an Easter egg that gives this track a connection to SM64 Whomp's Fortress (Waltz) and Downpour Boulevard.
  • There is an Easter egg dedicated to Rex, who was one of the two winners of a small competition hosted by the author in which the goal was to beat Compact Closed Pushy Penguins as quickly as possible.
  • The giant holographic man is an edit of Captain Falcon's model from Super Smash Bros. Brawl to give it the appearance of the Wiremale from Multi-Man Brawl. The author of the original edit is as of yet unknown.
  • The statues of Quetzalcōātl and the serpent found just before the first cannon are 3D scans made by Sketchfab users Chris3dblender and Archaeo3D respectively.
