* I first learned about Mario Kart Wii custom tracks around late 2012 or early 2013, mainly from watching various YouTube videos featuring them. I played the game for a few years prior, but never played online until that same time period. I wanted to install CTGP for a while, though I never got to doing so until Summer 2017, when I ended up having my own Wii. The first custom track I played was [[Super Sky Courtyard]] (due to it being the first track in the default cup layout at the time), and the first custom track I played online was [[Psyduck Cliffs]]. Starting in 2019, I got more involved with Discord and Twitch communities revolving around Mario Kart Wii, and started playing more actively. At the end of 2020, I started to let myself have less of a presence in the general communities, and now only interact with the general MKW community from a distance, as I started to prefer being someone who isn't all too known. Since then, I have mainly stuck to interacting with friends and people who do modding for the game, primarily in CT creation. Since 2021, when it comes to playing the game, I tend to play worldwide races every so often, sometimes on regular tracks, but usually CTWWs on custom track distributions I enjoy playing. In the past, I would enjoy doing Time Trials too, though in mid-late 2020, I stopped doing them regularly, as I didn't really enjoy the pressure of them, wasted a lot of my time on doing runs, and I was bad at utilizing some of the more advanced driving tech. Overall I would consider myself a casual player, because I don't like to play very seriously, and I like to use whatever characters and vehicles I feel like using instead of what may be most optimal. I think my outlook on playing the game and also my experience in creating tracks myself has helped me enjoy the CTs people make more overall, I rarely actually end up disliking a track, and there are quite a few tracks out there I find at least some appreciation in that I feel like a majority of players would just brush off without thought. I enjoy finding out about and playing tracks I've never seen before, and playing custom tracks in general is probably the main thing that keeps me playing this game regularly!

* My favorite game series are Pokémon (especially the spinoff series Pokémon Mystery Dungeon!), and the Mario series as well as spinoffs of it, such as Mario Kart (duh), Paper Mario (primarily the first three games, I don't like SS, and I haven't tried CS. TOK I have interest in playing soon though), and Mario Party. I hope to play more non Nintendo franchises and games a bit more in the future, my favorites I've played in the past few years being Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling, and Fall Guys. The first video game I played was Mario Kart: Double Dash.

* The username "Rex" mainly comes from the Super Mario World enemy with the same name. I first used the name in a weekly Mario Kart 8 tournament in 2015, where I planned on changing my name each time I played in it, but I started getting known there by the alias after I had used it. For a while, it was the only place I had used the name, until 2017, in which I started using it in most places I existed across the internet. Despite my name, I'm actually not super interested in dinosaurs, there's many other animals that I like more than them, though I wouldn't say that I dislike them. To me, they're an animal that I definitely like more in more cartoonish styles and not realistic styles (Yoshi is a good example of this!)

* If an update is more for your own or a distribution's preferences, I would appreciate the update being labeled as an alternate or distribution specific version. (ex. v1.0-alt, v1.0.mkw)

Please respect my wishes for aspects of my tracks I do not want altered. Overall I would prefer if my tracks stay close to how I originally made them in visuals and gameplay, so do not heavily change those without permission. Below is a short list of more specific things I can think of that I don't want changes to.

Revision as of 19:21, 29 October 2023

Hi! I'm Rex. I kinda just exist, I find myself to be a bit uninteresting on the surface. The main types of mods I create are Custom Tracks, as I have a good amount of experience in making them. Though for most, if not all of them, I tend to make them for my own enjoyment, and not really any serious reasons. I also don't release them very regularly, as I don't regularly have high amounts of motivation.

My tracks are likely not for everybody, as I don't really strive for perfection with my tracks (especially visually), and mainly try to aim for what I'm personally content with. I recommend you check out some of the other talented creators and their creations on this wiki instead if you're looking for more polished and pretty stuff! I just hope that you can at least respect that I do this more as a random hobby and not for any sort of occupation or trying to be the best at :>

If you want to see more information and my thoughts about the new mods I release, check out my mod blog page!
I also plan to have a link to a folder on this page in the future, containing not only mods I've released here, but also most of my other mods that are too small-scale to upload to this wiki. (BRSTMs I've made, any model or texture modifications outside of CTs/THs, etc.) I will put the link for it here when I've finished uploading a good amount of my stuff to it!

Questions and permission to update stuff

If you want to ask me questions or requests that are related to any of the mods I've published on here, you're free to ask them on my user talk page. I also have a Discord account, but I'm not very confident in talking with people I haven't talked with much before directly. If you do know what my Discord account is, feel free to ping me in a server I'm in (such as the public Tockdom one from the main page, or DM me if you have me added), instead of using the talk page. If you let me know ahead of time what you're adding or changing, I'll let you know if I'm fine with it!

If you want to update any of my Custom Tracks:

  • I'll likely be fine with you updating it as long as the focus is on bug fixes and such, and if I haven't done anything with the track myself for at least two years.
  • If you want to do anything more than bug fixes, or want to update anything I've made recently, I would like to be asked and informed about what changes you're making! When it comes to making other forms of my original tracks (texture hacks, track edits, remakes in MKW or in other games, etc.), please ask me for permission on those too.
  • If another author was involved with the creation of the track, you should also ask them for permission, especially if they did more of the work on it than I did.
  • If an update is more for your own or a distribution's preferences, I would appreciate the update being labeled as an alternate or distribution specific version. (ex. v1.0-alt, v1.0.mkw)

User Link

Some mods I've released are exempt from my user link. If it's a mod I made in my own efforts, it's overall something I don't want to be or doesn't really need to be on the user link, whether it be a track of mine I don't like much anymore, or is something made for a more unorthodox purpose. I may add or remove stuff depending on how I feel about them each time I edit the user link. The mods listed in each category are sorted by when they were first released.
