Character Hack Tutorial Rewrite

Introduction

You must use this template when creating a new Custom Character/Vehicle (Character Hack) page. This helps give Custom Character/Vehicle pages a uniform and professional look. You can see a preview of the Custom Character Template here.

Please read the Wiiki Rules before you get started.

Creating a Custom Character/Vehicle Page

  1. Find a name for the new page. The page names for custom characters or vehicles always have the format:
     <Character_Name>_on_<Vehicle_Name> or

     <Character_Name> or

     <Vehicle_Name>

Example: Crazy Ape on Pink Flame Runner (Use this format if it replaces only one vehicle.)

Example: Neon Monkey (Use this format if it replaces multiple vehicles.)

Example: Rainbow Bike (Use this format if only the vehicle is modified.)

    Keep an eye on spacing.

  2. Next, enter the name of the new page into the search field and click »Go«.
  3. At the top of the page there will be a sentence like: Create the page "Custom Character" on this wiki! Click on the link.
  4. Copy the following text and paste it into the text box:
    {{subst:Custom-Character}}

    ... and save the page.

  5. Press »Edit« and edit the content of the page.
  6. <!-- When you edit the page, you'll see instructions enclosed in comment tags like this. --> The <!-- comments --> can be deleted as you set up the page. Anything between <!-- comment tags --> will be invisible when you save the page.
  7. You need to determine what exactly your modification is. In the Type field of the table, you can say what type of modification your hack is.
    • If the model is not changed, put Texture Hack.
    • If the model is completely changed, put Model Hack.
    • If the texture is changed and the model is modified slightly, put Model & Texture Hack
  8. As a follow up to Type, you need to determine what category your hack belongs in. Categories are normally listed at the bottom.
  9. Use the »SHOW PREVIEW« button as you edit. You can continue to »PREVIEW« until you get it right. Every »SAVE« is saved permanently and must be patrolled by wiki moderators. Do not »SAVE« the page until you are completely sure the page is the way you want it.
  10. Write using third person (using words like he, she and they) instead of first person (I, me and we.)
  11. In your article, make sure to mention which characters and/or vehicles are replaced.
  12. Add your User link at the bottom of the page.
  13. Add the new Custom Character to the List of Custom Characters/Vehicles list.
  14. Add the new Custom Character to the News.

it seems like the left, center, and right options don't work anyway

really? -- Wiimm 20:55, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
Oh, I didn't know you needed "float-" for right. thanks! the left option is pointless, but is there an option for center?
ZillaSpaz 21:00, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
The textbox things are all css based. And I use "float-left" to avoid to conflicts to other "left" classes.
Wiimm 21:05, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
Well, I found a workaround for center, albeit a basic one. It doesn't look like float-left works good with nearby sections, kinda like "thumb" for pictures. Meanwhile, float-right is at the top of the section, ignoring the text that's supposed to be beneath it. This has all been interesting. For me.

float-left' and float-rigth signals a floating content:
  • Place the object on the left or right border at a vertically good position.
  • Float the text around the object.
And with this philosophy, a float-center is not possible (or only with layout tricks like double float-right or with tables).
