Rock Rock Mountain is the seventh track created by kHacker and his third using sketchup. The idea of using a MK7 track appeared shortly after the release of his KMP Modifier v2, mainly because designing is not his best part of the creation process. The final model of the track has big similarities with the orginal 3DS version with minor changes and less pipes and ramps which were mainly there for the glider part, which is not prescent in the track. Currently there is an incomplete release canidate for v1.1, which is out of development. The track has a big black hole under the track which was left there due the lack of time for the creator.

Development

The development of Rock Rock Mountain started in March 2012, using SketchUp. Because the model had to be very advanced, it had been in development for 2 months in SketchUp, and another 3 months in 3ds Max. The textures are from original Nintendo tracks and edited by WorldsBoss. Baoulettes converted the model to a 3ds Max file and helped make the model work in 3ds Max and in BrawlBox. The KMP had been in development since July, along the 3ds Max business, and was the last thing to be finished before the release. The last weeks before release were especially work in BrawlBox, where Torran helped a lot. There were some problems with the shadows of the trees and later when the shadows were fixed by Torran, the boost pads had a new mapping; this mapping is still in the final version. The track was finally released mid-August, after a race against the clock, only hours before kHacker35000vr was leaving for 2 weeks. The bugs discovered while testing had minor fixes and where further left alone. Those bugs were fixed a month later, but due a nasty freeze and the lack of motivation, v1.1 has not been released yet.

Overview

This is the first track ever to be based off a Mario Kart 7 track. The main goal during development was to make it enjoyable, rather than making it look perfect. The scale of the road is small compared to the original and very small compared to other Mario Kart Wii tracks and has received a lot of criticism. The track itself looks very similar to the original Rock Rock Mountain, except for some scaling and model details. The ramps after the big bridge are replaced by woodboxes to prevent wheelie-abuse and let karts have a better chance of winning. The textures are very bright, just like the original version, but received negative criticism; they are darkened in v1.1.

Like all other 3DS tracks, this track has been given a new name for the sake of CTGP-R to avoid copyright issues. In the CTGP-R, it is now known as Rock Rock Ridge.

Reception

Release Canidate 3 (RC3) was downloaded 100 times in the first 2 weeks after its release and reached 400 downloads in October 2012. The track has received a lot of criticism. Many critics have been complaining about the black hole under the track and the lack of some details. However, even with the criticism, many people like playing this track and the track is occasionally voted for in CTGP-R's Custom Tracks Worldwide races.
