Not to be confused with DS Nintendo DS, a retro battle arena from Mario Kart DS.

The Nintendo DS (DS) is a dual-screen handheld game system designed by Nintendo. The system launched in November 21, 2004 in North America, December 2, 2004 in Japan, February 24, 2005 in Australia, and March 11, 2005 in Europe. The Nintendo DS was Nintendo's first portable console in the Nintendo DS line, succeeding the Game Boy line (for the most part). The Nintendo DS is notable for being the first Nintendo portable console to use dual-screens working with a touchscreen, a built-in microphone, and support for wireless connectivity. The fifth entry in the Mario Kart series, Mario Kart DS, was released for this system.
