CT Discussion

Wow, it's very scary how fast you're making these. It seems like you just started Rooster Island, and now White Land is almost done! How much time do you you truely dedicate to each CT?

-SuperMario64DS

I have some experience in creating levels, so the modeling part doesn't take as long for me. Part of that is knowing what I'm capable of doing, and what is difficult in general to accomplish. There are a bunch of mapping projects for UT2004 that I never finished and are still sitting on my hard drive because I was too ambitious.

RI took about 3 weeks of off-and-on work, mostly on afternoons. The most time consuming part of modeling was aligning textures, and then realigning textures when they turned out to not export correctly. What took most of my time was learning how to get the level into MKwhee, and figuring out what I could/should do with CTools, SZS Modifier, and KMP Modifier. It took a long time to get the hang of editing KMPs, especially figuring out cameras. The minimap was a pain in the butt too, but oddly enough, the minimap on White Land was perfect on the first try. Go figure.

I've spent about 4 days on White Land, what I'm finding challenging is how to decorate the level and how best to modify gameplay so the level is fun. It's not quite fun enough yet in my opinion. In F-Zero, you could run each lap in about 20-30 seconds. It's a bit longer than one minute per lap in mario kart on 150 ccs. That's what happens when you don't have rocket-powered machines. I'm debating adding a few boost pads on the track, but I want to keep the level as close to the original as possible. Maybe I'll make the entire road boosts so the sense of speed is closer to F-Zero. I'll probably put out a beta here in a day or so with just the basics in place, get some feedback, and then make it nicer later.

I'd like to put in some hovering billboards that move slightly. I know how accomplish what I want in UT, but I'm not sure in this game. Can routes be applied to any object? I assume if the various settings are copied over from a normal moving object (like the balloon) I could import a billboard model on any existing object to get its texture settings. What I'd really like to do is have the images on the billboard change every 5-10 seconds. In UT this would be accomplished with a texture sequence - you could set several textures to display in a particular order, choose how long and whether they fade or just change. Ideally I'd combine that sequence with another animated texture for a flickering effect. My idea was change the model of an object that had a sequence, and use your technique to get the texture animation working, but I don't think there are any sequences, just scrolling textures. I could still do an object that hovers though, and grab a scrolling texture from mdush or something to do a glowing effect on the supports of the sign. --Jefe 16:02, 19 October 2011 (CEST)

You can add the Video by MKWCTs in Rooster Island if you want :) LuigiM 17:15, 19 October 2011 (CEST)

Well I'm gald yor're getting so much done so fast. :) Jungle Island has been taking FOREVER becasue I only allow myself two hours a week, so I can maintain my real life in addition. Plus when I think the model's ready, I start the KMP, but I find yet another way to improve it. I'll see about getting a beta today, even if the model isn't perfect, I would like an opinion. I've been feeling presure to both make this amazing, and to release it soon, those two don't mix so well, quality can't be made in minutes. I've worked hours on the model, and I'm still not seeing it being completed. I've already planned items positions & opening camera scenes, so perhaps I'll get that done. Good job on your CTs though!

- SuperMario64DS

I'm going to add some info about easy camera settings to the wiki pretty soon. Let me know if you need help with that. --Jefe 18:32, 19 October 2011 (CEST)

Camera Tutorial

I have a question...I have stuff to make a CAME, AREA and Objects Tutorial that includes something about Routes...should I do this in "Cameras" and "Objects" or should I make a new Page for that with Category:Tutorial? LuigiM 17:57, 23 October 2011 (CEST)

Good question. Most of that should go into the existing KMP_Editing tutorial. The stuff about cameras can go into the KMP Editing tutorial, or here on the Cameras page. I think the cameras page was intended to be a tutorial at some point, but it never happened. If you have a lot to write about cameras, I'd add it to the Camera page because the KMP tutorial is pretty long already. If you do that, add the Category:tutorial links and then link it into the CT tutorial template. If needed, the reference stuff by Mr.Bean and Wiimm could be moved to a sub-page like this Cameras/Reference.--Jefe 18:34, 23 October 2011 (CEST)
Hmm, I have some pics about it and I think, that MrBeans Analysis could help...but I don't know in which order it can be. I will put it before MrBean...if something is wrong, please correct it. The Object stuff I will put in the KMP Editing tutorial.

So you've just released White Land, and it's insanely awesome! Rooster Island was also very impressive. So what are you considering to do next? I'm pretty sure it will be just as (If not more) awesome! --SuperMario64DS 07:56, 21 October 2011 (CEST)

Thanks! I've been neglecting my UT2004 server, I had some updates planned for it, so I'll probably work on that next. But I will definitely make another track soon. --Jefe 07:59, 21 October 2011 (CEST)

Well good luck with that! I'm not exactly sure what Unreal Tournament is, but that mall you designed looks impressive. I'll see you when you come back!

i'm sorry i broke the rules. I'm new to this and i haven't made a track yet. My apologies. -Pokemongeof

Hey, I'm "The n00b"

Hey Jefe, I'm new here and I WANT to hack Mario Kart Wii, but I don't know where to place hacks I downloaded. Like I have "Galaxy Arena" but I want it to be over Chain Chomp Wheel, and many tracks like that. I also have "DK Jungle Tour" that I want to replace DK's Jungle Parkway with (that includes the brstm). I checked the tutorials for a Naming and Placing guide, but couldn't find one. Can you help a n00b at hacking out?? N00b 0f h4x 21:05, 20 November 2011 (CET)

I was the noob about 2 months ago, you won't stay that for long. :D I'm pretty sure DK Jungle Tour is included in CTGP Revolution so you don't need to replace anything for that level. Once you install CTGP Revolution, you put any files you want to replace in the /mkwii/My Stuff/ folder on your SD card. That goes for levels, karts/characters, music and anything else. Go <deleted link> for the list of file names. One thing about brstm files is that you need to patch a file to get them to loop correctly. --Jefe 21:19, 20 November 2011 (CET)
Cool thanks, but it says right now: The file you are trying to access is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later. I'm also going to read the tutorial to make my first CT: Mario Meadows (Moo Moo Meadows hack) N00b 0f h4x 22:02, 20 November 2011 (CET)

Just wondering...

... I see on your User Template says that "In Progress" is ???. Does this mean that you don't know what your doing yet? Or it's a secret?

SuperMario64DS, 09:03, 17 December 2011 (CET)

Both. It's a secret to everyone! Actually, I'm going to finish my update to White Land's model before I start on any new projects. The ??? is a placeholder until I announce a new project. --Jefe 18:45, 17 December 2011 (CET)

Mario Kart Arcade GP

Hi Jefe! If you didn't know, Mario Kart GP is a arcade version of Mario Kart with cool unique tracks, with models un-accessable to the public. Well, I was able to rip models from that game. If you'd like to take the rare chance of porting a Mario Kart GP course, then go to www.mariowiki.com, and search Mario Kart GP 2. There should be a list of courses there, just let me know which one you like and we can port it whenever I'm not porting a course with another user, or working on my own tracks. -- SuperMario64DS, 17:36, 23 December 2011 (CET)

I'm aware of GP. Thanks for the offer, but I've decided to take a break from making CTs for a while. I might consider doing one at some point, but I don't have any way to fix textures properly... I don't use 3DS Max, and I'd rather not pirate it or muck around learning a new program. --Jefe 06:23, 24 December 2011 (CET)

List

I don't know you've noticed it, but bean has released a public beta containing all deleted tracks so they don't have to be in that list anymore.
kHacker35000vr 11:42, 26 December 2011 (CET)

There was nothing on the wiki about it. You listed your edit reason as "Beta tracks deleted." It was not obvious that you were referring to a Beta of CTGP, but appeared that you were deleting tracks that were in Beta status. --Jefe 14:13, 26 December 2011 (CET)

Deleted Page?

Hello Jefe. Remember the Swapping Animations Tutorial I created? Well, It's gone. Did somebody delete it? Just look at my Contributions, Oct 16th 2011. I created the page THAT DAY, but there is no evidence there that I ever did. I also remember that day Tock wrote on the Talk Page for the Swapping Animations Tutorial, amd I replied. There is no evidence of that edit either. If you look at Oct 16th on my Contribution list, you'll see that on the CT Tutorial I made an edit, and said "Adding Animations Tutorial". Well, in theory, the creation of the page should have been right before that edit on Oct 16th, but it is not even there. And then look at the CT Tutorial Page, and the list of guides. The animations tutorial is listed, but there is no link. What happened? It seemed like somebody wanted to entirely get rid of that page, that I worked HARD on to in better the Wiki, but it's completely gone now. What happened? It's a bit upsetting to see my work go to waste and disappear. -- SuperMario64DS, 03:59, 31 December 2011 (CET)

I just saw that Tock deleted it, and said "50% Of This Page Is Wrong." Well, why did he delete? It could have been fixed. -- SuperMario64DS, 04:02, 31 December 2011 (CET)
It seems you have your answer. --Jefe 04:20, 31 December 2011 (CET)

Talk Page Moving

I have an idea. Why not have a Page to archive any un wanted material besides spam from a Talk Page? Since you apparently cannot clear an piece of a Talk Page, but you can move sections to an appropriate section, then an unwanted material can be moved there, as long as you link them back to one another, like "Section to moved to Un-wanted Talk Page Material", (As in each section oft the page) like that. Can it? It still exists which is okay, and is moved to an appropriate section which is also okay. Do you like this ides? -- SuperMario64DS, 20:38, 8 January 2012 (CET)

You shouldn't consider your track talk page to be a personal webpage that you can change at your whim. Talk pages are for discussion of the main page, and in your case, your track. You will get unwanted comments from time to time, but they should not be removed or edited unless they are harassment, trolling or spam. Talk pages can be archived once they are full enough to be difficult to navigate. But to be clear archives are not for hiding unwanted comments or sections. To make one, make a subpage like this: User_talk:Wiimm/Archive. Jungle Island's talk page isn't full enough yet; it would need to be as cluttered as Talk:Main Page or Talk:CTGP Revolution neither of which have archives yet.--Jefe 21:16, 8 January 2012 (CET)
Then why was Mr Bean allowed to remove the Cup Name Suggestions section from the CTGPR Talk Page? He said "No Thank-you, I didn't ask for this. And it's very Discouraging to see people leave Snitty Little comments about the current Cup selections." That reason is about as good as mine, but nobody reverted his edit. So why am I not allowed to do so? As I've said before, there is a way to see which mods veiw which edit, and none of the mods that saw that reverted it. -- SuperMario64DS, 06:02, 9 January 2012 (CET)
He shouldn't have, actually. It would have been better if had posted that as a response rather than deleting the section. I do understand that he didn't want to continue that conversation; there's a good chance people would have kept adding to the section if it weren't deleted and it really wasn't helpful. I agree with him on that. The CTGP talk page had stopped functioning as a normal talk page a while back, that's one reason I moved the Track Wishlist from the talk page to its own page. In contrast, he wasn't trying to clear off bug reports, hide his own "not-angry" tirades, or delete the resulting comments by moderators.
You've got some things you don't like on a talk page, something that most users will never even look at. Big deal. Now I would appreciate it if you would drop this topic. Thank you. --Jefe 07:11, 9 January 2012 (CET)

About Mircojanisch‎

Something goes wrong:

(Block log); 17:41 . . Vulcanus2 (Talk | contribs | block) blocked Mircojanisch (Talk | contribs) with an expiry time of 1 day (account creation disabled) (violating rule 5, doing it again will result in a bigger ban)

(Deletion log); 00:47 . . Jefe (Talk | contribs | block) deleted "File:MarioKartNFSpreview.png" (I asked you to upload this as JPG. The JPG version I uploaded was 1/10th of the file size.) (Upload log); 00:46 . . Jefe (Talk | contribs | block) uploaded "File:MarioKartNFSpreview.jpg" (Image was 815 KB as a png file. )

Please give him time to edit stuff after he got unbanned :P Btw, image stuff isn't that much of a problem, Tock was considering to make it possible to upload tracks to this wiki. So I don't think size matters much. --Vulcanus2 00:31, 28 January 2012 (CET)

I knew that he was currently banned. You missed the original upload the day before.
(Deletion log); 03:52 . . Jefe (Talk | contribs | block) deleted "File:Snap 2012.01.03 01h56m55s 003.png" (Rule 2. Please use a DESCRIPTIVE file name, like MarioKartNFSpreview.jpg. Please use jpg format.)
He re-uploaded the file with a correct name, but didn't change the image format as requested.
I posted on Talk:Rules some recommendations on images. As I've posted before, I don't know what Tock's bandwidth situation is, it might be effectively unlimited. I'd really like to get some feedback from him on this. However, bandwidth overages can be expensive depending on the plan that is set up, so I think it is wise to encourage smaller image uploads. I wouldn't want to see the wiki shut down from something easily solved.
Personally my own wiki limit is 5 GB space. At the moment the wiki takes around 600 MB space and i have a pretty high limit (the 5 GB aren't the webspace limit). But you're right with the picture rules because when people save a .png with Gimp they get a png file which is 5 times smaller than "normal" png images. Sorry for the late response.
Tock 20:13, 29 January 2012 (CET)

Textures

Hey Jefe. You may have not seen my posts on MKWii.com... Would you mind if I used the textures you used in your hack for that one game? They'd look a lot better in my course than the current ones do. I would not know how to access those textures, so could you send the to me somehow? I'd like to try them, perhaps would become more liked by others if I changed the textures. The ones found in Rooster Island do not appear to be the same, but I am willing to try out combinations from both Rooster Island/Rezway II & your Hack for Bob-Omb Battlefield. (I also think your talk page is getting pretty close to having the need of being archived) -- SuperMario64DS, 23:59, 17 February 2012 (CET)

I'll put the M64 textures into a zip file and post them sometime tomorrow. The textures for Rooster Island are simplified so that they hide texture alignment problems, but they're similar in terms of color. --Jefe 02:26, 18 February 2012 (CET)
Textures: http://www.gamefront.com/files/21348084/Textures_Mario64_Jefe_RAR --Jefe 04:42, 19 February 2012 (CET)
Thank-you! I spent my whole day trying to figure out 3DS Max instead of doing this, I thought for some reason that you were going to post them on mariokartwii.com, so I was there instead. I've just tried them in Dolphin, they look nice. If you ever need me to UV Map anything, just ask. I've successfully learned how to and I'd like to practice some time, like a UV Mapped Rooster Island or anything else, just ask me and I can try. -- SuperMario64DS, 05:47, 19 February 2012 (CET)

Hello.. Why is My ct deleted from The CTGP Revolution/Track Wishlist? -- mkwjason

Tracks in other languages stuff

The reason I added the part about native speakers is to explain why stuff like the Korean names aren't in there, they are all unconfirmed so I didn't wanna add a lot of stuff to the page that was probably wrong unless it could first be confirmed by someone who speaks the language fluently. I would much rather add confirmed stuff to the page rather than something which could be classed as false information.

As for the other part, are you sure I should use a period, or would a colon be better? The translated names for this track as they appear in CTGP Revolution: --WorldsBoss 14:28, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

Either would be fine.--Jefe 05:41, 2 September 2012 (UTC)

Duplicate Page and Missing Page

First of all, there is a page called Luigi's Island, and another page called Luigis Island. Both of which describe the same track so I have copied all of the information into the grammatically correct one. The Luigis Island page may now be deleted.

Second of all I'm not sure if you saw what I said on the talk page for this, but the Custom Mario Kart:Copyrights page is blank. Everyone is given this link underneath the typing box each time they edit a page so I don't think it's meant to be blank. -- WorldsBoss 22:46, 11 September 2012 (UTC)

I converted the redundant page to a redirect. The other discussion has moved here.

Patrolling

Thank you! I noticed those red exclaimation points last night actually, on one page I saw a button at the bottom of the page saying "mark as patrolled" but I can't seem to find a similar button on a lot of the other pages... is there something special I need to do in order to view it? -- WorldsBoss 10:24, 13 September 2012 (UTC)

Aah I fail... I figured it out now. Did quite a few of the patrols tonight but there are still several by Torran from yesterday. -- WorldsBoss 21:56, 13 September 2012 (UTC)

Renewing Pages

There is a page for a retro track that I'd like possession of, however it is currently "owned" by another user. This user has failed to edit the page since June 2012, and the page was created it January of 2012. According to this user's page, it is still "In Progress", yet there are many, many similar "In Progress" tracks that were created as early as the Wiki's opening that still have no proof of even being worked on at any period. I recall a similar instance with GCN Mushroom Bridge. Long ago Fraz started Mushroom Bridge, then Torran came with a finished version, and instead of taking any of the original pages, it was split into GCN Mushroom Bridge (Fraz) and GCN Mushroom Bridge (Torran). Obviously Fraz has not shown any progress on this course and since it was so long ago it is unlikely. Could this page I am looking to have be deleted then recreated, in an effort to reset the page for my use or edit it to fit my work? Or should I really split it into two pages, one for me and one for that user? I feel that Torran should own GCN Mushroom Bridge's page as well, and this is a very similar case of the abandonment of a needed page. --SuperMario64DS, 02:51, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

Which page? --Jefe 13:35, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

DS Shroom Ridge. The last edit was actually in September, but as you see it was done by a random user adding the user link for one of the people working on it at the time. --SuperMario64DS 14:54, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

I don't think it has been long enough to consider it abandoned. They might abandon their version if you release yours first, but it's not fair to the other group for you to just take over the page. We don't have a consistent policy on multiple versions of ported tracks (all on the same page or separate linked to a main page as disambiguation.) For now, just create your own page, and I'll move the older one. --Jefe 18:37, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

I don't plan to use the page until my version is released anyway. At the date of the release, would I then be allowed to use the current page? At that point if they decided to continue with their project then they may split the pages then, and since this is unlikely, taking the page at the date of release will later on prevent us from having to redirect/delete pages if I were to create a special page for my version and then have them most likely not even create a version themselves. --SuperMario64DS 05:34, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

Again, it's not fair to them to delete the page, it really hasn't been that long since their last edit and it looks like they were pretty far along. Redirecting/moving/deleting is easy. Just release yours on a separate page. Afterwards they'll likely cancel their version, in that case yours could be moved to the main article. --Jefe 13:16, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

Talk: DS Shroom Ridge. I spoke to him over skype and he said that their version was canceled anyway because he was too busy. Thanks for helping me out though. On the same subject, what do you think about letting Torran have the main GCN Mushroom Bridge page too? Fraz stated on Skype long ago that he no longer was making tracks. --SuperMario64DS 15:32, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

Pages of tracks with duplicates should be merged anyway in my opinion, like how GCN Luigi Circuit does it. I'll go merge the two pages now and if Fraz has discontinued his section of the page then someone can remove it. --Torran 18:26, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

Speaking of pages with duplicate tracks... are the N64 Wario Stadiums going to be merged? How about the GCN Baby Parks? Zilla 01:44, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

In my opinion the duplicates for GCN Baby Park is acceptable, seeing that we now have three versions. The N64 Wario Stadium by CaptainKwark & Wiimm is the only true port. The other is just a remake, and the author even states that it has become Wario's Lair, so I believe that Wiimm & his temporary N64 porting partner should get the main page. --SuperMario64DS 02:09, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

About the images

Oh, sry for that >.< --Burikillo 20:13, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

Oh, sry, I thought you meant about HD images... I made them in JPG because I though then they'll be right. OK, keep only the Overview and the Logo, I'll put the track parts' images fused all in one image. And sry for all the problems we've caused to ya xP

About comments

How long should it take before it's time to get rid of the comments? I see now that the same day the page is made is too early, but I also think the new guy got the hang of it already. You should have seen his earlier edits. Zilla 03:03, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

I fixed his page, it was still kind of a mess. I would only "clean" pages when you are otherwise making an update to the page. --Jefe 04:35, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

I have ...:
  • ... improved white+gray+black
  • ... added color 'yellow'
  • ... added alternating colors for table rows
  • ... added hover effect

New color scheme is online. Lookout the 2 new attribtes for text tables:
  • alt: alternating row colors (wot´rks also for standard "wikitable")
  • headline: emphasized first row (column headings)

I hope, that nothing is destroyed now.

So far so good. Thanks, and I just tested the gray video header too. Looks great. Gray will be the new standard color for "original game version" videos. --Jefe 06:31, 7 December 2012 (UTC)

Deletion of redirect

There is absolutly no point in redirecting to a non-existing page, the point of redirects is to make pages accessable easier. This doesn't make any sense to me.
kHacker35000vr 16:33, 1 December 2012 (UTC)

All content makers should have a page on the wiki; if they have an account on here, it should be redirected to their user page. Whether they've created their own page yet or not doesn't really matter, it should be in place so that short links to users will go to the correct page when it's made. --Jefe 16:54, 1 December 2012 (UTC)

Jefe, if you feel such a thing is needed, then go ahead and create redirects for the other many users who don't have pages yet (Somewhere around 500). You can find the entire list here: user List. DJ Lowgey is already aware that he needs to create a page at User:DJ Lowgey. Have you ever considered that DJ Lowgey doe not want that redirect for any reason? Just something to consider. However, if you do believe each user needs a something like that, then you'd better start soon. (And there are certainly many content makers without pages,) --SuperMario64DS 17:13, 1 December 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for that delightful response. If you look at my history, you'll see that I add user redirects regularly, but generally only when I'm fixing a page or find a broken link where someone has used the short version of the user's name. I'm not going to all of them, it would be a task better suited for a bot. You are certainly welcome to go ahead and do it, or maybe Khacker can have his bot do it. --Jefe 05:06, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

New Ported Tracks

I am not going to separate more merged pages yet (the two "SNES Bowser Castle 2"s were already separated, but MKDasher got the main page, which was unfair), but I want to know if it's okay to make a separate page for new ported tracks that already have older versions by someone else and then make a disambiguation page. This can go for other people too, but I am not going to make other people's pages, because I am asking for me.

e.g. I am making my own DS Mario Circuit and there is an older version available already. I am also planning to make my own DS Wario Stadium and again, there is an older version available.
Zilla 00:15, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

You might as well. The pages can always be merged later on if needed. --Jefe 05:06, 2 December 2012 (UTC)
This is minor, but I didn't want to suddenly move something and then upset everyone, especially the translators. Should I move the Names In Other Languages chart to the disambiguation page or copy it to the new separate page as well? If you look at SNES Bowser Castle 2, both versions are in CTGP Revolution, but only MKDasher's version has the Names In Other Languages chart.
Zilla 20:47, 2 December 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for asking before just sporadically doing it. I suggest keeping the Names in Other Languages section on each of the individual track pages themselves rather than in the directory listing all versions, that way they will still conform to the same style as all the other track pages on the wiki. Personally I'm kinda amazed at how that section is so popular, I thought it'd just be me adding it to every page an filling it in but it seems that a lot of other people have been adding Names in Other Languages to their track pages even without my input. -- WorldsBoss 21:09, 2 December 2012 (UTC)
I agree. Although it makes sense to put the "Names in Other Languages" section on the disambiguation page (after all it should be the same on each version,) I think it's better to have it on each individual track page for stylistic consistency.--Jefe 01:29, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

Heart of China

Thanks for remember me that rule! But Heart of China is not my track, I'm helping the author to order the information, adding tables, adding sections, etc. But I don't know if I can edit the article with my own words because Im not the author. Can I edit, in that way, an article about a track that is not mine?. Thanks!--Gilc 18:47, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

Yes, all articles should be in 3rd person. There are several ways to edit it. Some things can be put in quotations marks, along with qualifiers such as The author states.... or according to the track maker, ...
Other text can be modified to change from 1st to 3rd person: For example you can change I simplified this area to make it Mario Kart Wii-compatible... to The author simplified... or Wingcapman simplified...
Additionally, what you had posted there would be fine to put in the track's readme file. The article itself doesn't need a word-for-word copy of his notes, just a basic description. --Jefe 19:55, 29 December 2012 (UTC)
I already edited the article! Thanks!.
I know that this is not about the track, but I have some questions about Names in other languages sections, Must we add the names using a translator or wait for people that speak that languages to translate it or how?. Thanks again!--Gilc 21:37, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

It's best to let other people make the translations unless you know one of the languages yourself. --Jefe 23:02, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

Tools

Short notice because comment forgotten (revert used instead undo): The tool does it, but the tools do it -- Wiimm 16:29, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

I didn't really think about it when I made that edit, but "Wiimms SZS Tools does this" sounds correct because Wiimms SZS Tools is a program (singular), despite the name. Arguments can be made for saying it either way though. If the wording is changed to something like "Wiimms SZS Tools can be used to do this" that problem is avoided. --Jefe 16:57, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
There are 6 tools ... but I'm not a very good english speaker so I don't discuss language issues. Feel free to edit it again. -- Wiimm 17:07, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

Sorry about that Jefe. HerbertMcHoover 13:11, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

by the same author

What do you think about this: Template:User-Jopojelly-link?

I was on the way to remove the "this" link. But I think, if an author has only one single product, a "by the same author" is useless. In my opinion, I can delete this template.

Wiimm (talk) 14:49, 21 March 2013 (UTC)

Yes, I'd remove the "this" link. But I think it's good to for all authors to have a user template, even if they only have one thing on the wiki. It links back to their user page and can be updated with other information about the author. It will of course be already be in place for anything else they release on the CT Wiki.--Jefe (talk) 18:50, 21 March 2013 (UTC)

News???

so i added CTRP 4.3 to the news but it doesnt show i clicked save page and i used show preview :D i click all news 2013 and it shows up but not on the main page how can i fix this? -- unsigned comment by Soarin MKWII

That is normal, you'll have to wait untill a moderator confirms it or kHacker's bot adds it automatically. I also don't understand why you want to add CTGP 4.3, that has been released ages ago. -- NiAlBlack (talk) 08:29, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
I guess that CTGP 4.3 was a typo? I have updated the page, my bot is offline now due stupid windows update.
kHacker35000vr (talk) 13:38, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
I have no idea what "CTRP" is supposed to be. And why is its apparent first release 4.3? I would say it's just a typo for this guy's CT pack, but he keeps calling it "CTRP." --Jefe (talk) 14:47, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
CTRP stands for Custom Track Race pack. --FunkyDude15 (talk) 15:39, 26 March 2013 (UTC)

Visually review of tracks

Hi Jefe, my tools can create object files as export of the the KCL and some KMP sections. An visual review can help to find bugs and glitches. Now I plan to write a little tutorial/howto, but I'm not sure about the page name:

  • "Visually review of tracks"
  • "KMP Editing/Visually review"
  • "KMP object export"
  • Paragraph of KMP Editing
  • ?

What do you think? -- Wiimm (talk) 08:34, 27 March 2013 (UTC)

I'd go with KMP Editing/Visual Review, and insert a "Visual Review" section into the KMP Editing page.

Plural Redirects

Plural redirect are not needed, because you can always write [[Object]]s. I have replaced all "objects" links so the "objects" redirect is really waste. (See "What links here")

Wiimm (talk) 12:33, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

Redirects aren't only for wiki code. They're used as shortcuts and for searches. If you do a search using the term "Objects" the "Object" page is the 17th result. So a plural redirect for this term is not a waste if it makes it easier to find to desired result. Additionally it's quite likely the "Objects" url is linked to offsite on the forum and other places since the page has been around since 2011. --Jefe (talk) 12:38, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
Ok, I can follow your arguments for "objects", but not for the most other plurals. -- Wiimm (talk) 13:30, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
I think it's best practice to make page name singular when they're created. But for many terms, people are just as likely to search for the plural as they are for the singular. There really aren't any downsides to plural redirects for common terms. I just checked Wikipedia for comparison. Every plural term I tried redirected to either the singular version of the search term or a disambiguation page if there were multiple meanings. --Jefe (talk) 13:39, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

The GCN Waluigi Stadium Edit

Hi. I talked with Zilla about which name my model hacked GCN Waluigi Stadium could have and he said this:

[01.04.2013 22:57:15] Zilla: if you want, I can move it to "3DS Rainbow Road (April Fools)". it's too different to be a texture hack or CT with no model edits

and this

[01.04.2013 23:39:36] Zilla: so yeah tomorrow morning [01.04.2013 23:40:27] Zilla: I'll move it to "3DS Rainbow Road (April Fools Version)" and add it to the list of New Custom Tracks

I like the name "April Fool Version" more, too. Hmm, but Wiimm deleted the 'old' page before Zilla even could move/rename it. So, what are we going to name it now? --Buschkling (talk) 10:50, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

I thought, it was really only an april joke. And the download was only 247 bytes long and contains nothing but the text: "April Fools! This custom track was a joke." And April 1. is now gone.
Now I have restored the old pages -- Wiimm (talk) 10:57, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

Yes, I was going to put a download and Zilla was going to move the page this morning. Now we have 2 pages. Can you delete the new page April Fool's 3DS Rainbow Road (GCN Waluigi Stadium Edit)? I'll move the old pages to 3DS Rainbow Road (April Fools Version), is that ok?--Buschkling (talk) 11:00, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

deletion done -- Wiimm (talk) 11:04, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
ok thanks--Buschkling (talk) 11:05, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
It doesn't qualify as a Custom Track because it doesn't have a custom model. It can't be called a "GCN Waluigi Stadium Texture" because you removed the Piranha Plants, changing gameplay. It is considered a "Custom Tracks Without Model Edits." Those pages don't have a standard naming scheme at the moment, but I think the best solution is to add "<Original_Track_Name>_Edit" added to their page names to distinguish them from CTs and from Texture Hacks. That would cover include your track too. It can still be listed on the 3DS RR disambiguation page, and 3DS Rainbow Road (April Fools Version) can redirect to the actual page name.
Also, please see my notes on Candy Coaster. The slowdown problem should be fixed before it is included in CTGP. --Jefe (talk) 11:12, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

Ducks

Hey, could I use the ducks from Psyduck Cliffs for a track that I'm working on? --FunkyDude15 (talk) 03:38, 9 June 2013 (UTC)

The psyducks are ALPHAMARIOX's work, so you'll need to check with him. --Jefe (talk) 13:21, 9 June 2013 (UTC)

Darkybenji´s pages

Why you removed my tabele? There you can see where he had the idea like Super Mario Galaxy and which music are good for the track --Horsti12 (talk) 16:44, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

First of all, it was not Jefe it was Zilla. And when I looked at your tables I rolled my eyes. I'm sure thats what Zilla did. So don't put in useless tables.
--FunkyDude15 (talk) 01:24, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
I don´t unterstand why the table are not wrong, because it give yout the information maybe from Sonic Colours or Super Mario Galaxy
and you can see whic music are good for the track
--Horsti12 (talk) 05:21, 13 June 2013 (UTC)

All you did was add a pointless table with a link to a youtube video and say the track was from "DarkyBenji imagination." If you add to a page, it should be a description of the track or information about its development. It should be written coherently, and conform to the style used on this wiki. Your edit did none of those things, so it was correctly removed.

Also, there a number of reasons not to list music for tracks/texture hacks on the wiki. The primary reason is that we do not host BRSTM music files or collections. This is mostly due to copyright concerns, but also because BRSTMs are conversions of existing audio files, and rarely (if ever) the original composition of the wiki author. This wiki is dedicated to the creations of the community, not a music sharing site. While we don't forbid BRSTMs being included with a download, it shouldn't be the main feature of a track or the entirety of a writeup. Second, A lot of players, probably the vast majority, completely ignore the BRSTMs that come with tracks. Third, music is extremely subjective. What might sound awesome to one person will likely sound like cats being murdered with sledgehammers dubstep to another. If Benji or anyone else wants to list recommendations for their levels, they can certainly do it in the track's readme file or with a video. --Jefe (talk) 07:03, 13 June 2013 (UTC)

The Date on my Track

While my track was just posted on the wiki the other day, the first download link of this version was edited into <deleted link> on May 23rd 2013. So which date is the one I should be using?

--Segatendo (talk) 05:12, 2 July 2013 (UTC)
Generally we go by the date it was released to the public, not the date it was added on the wiki. It was unclear what your release date was because you did not include the version history table, and it was apparent from the video and forum thread that you have released or shown more than one version. So you need to fill out the version history table, and list the version(s) that you've made public. If there has been more than one "Beta", it should be listed as Beta <Version> (Beta B, Beta 2, etc.) If it was just a video preview, then put "Video Preview" and a link to the video in the notes field of the version history. Sorry for the late reply.--Jefe (talk) 04:25, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

Lap Count requests for CTGP-R

Now that CTGP-R has a speed modifier that is track-specific, do you still want both F-Zero Big Blue and F-Zero White Land I to be 2 laps? If not, just remove or change your request here.
-- Have a nice day, from ZillaSpaz 03:51, 25 July 2013 (UTC)

Bean probably already has an idea of what the speed multiplier and lap count should be set to for all F-Zero tracks. He'd probably do a demonstration on stream. I guess I could remove the request then. --Torran (talk) 06:20, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
I don't have the means to test various speeds/lap counts, so whatever Bean thinks is good would probably be good. --Jefe (talk) 23:23, 25 July 2013 (UTC)

Psyduck Cliffs

I have updated Psyduck Cliffs again. This time, I used a combination of both jump pad variants to ensure that all vehicles can make the proper jumps. You can obtain it here: http://puu.sh/4j70v.szs --Torran (talk) 23:00, 3 September 2013 (UTC)

That link don't work. -- Wiimm (talk) 09:45, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
Doesn't work for me either. --Jefe (talk) 18:37, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
Ah, puush link formatting... Try again now. --Torran (talk) 19:44, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
I got "Load Error: Found invalid data while decoding" while opening the course_model in CTools. Tried clearing my cache and redownloading, did it again. Is there a reason for that?--Jefe (talk) 20:07, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
Oh dear puush, now you ruined my file order too? Third times the charm? --Torran (talk) 20:22, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
