Menu/Race Character Length

I was told by Trainiax that the character limit is 32 for menus and 64 for race/battle previews, not 41 for either one of them. I am not sure which one is true. --KantoEpic (talk) 01:19, 18 December 2020 (UTC)

Are you refering to the maximum amount of characters in a track name (in the track selection and in the race preview)? If so, Trainiax might have tested with LE-CODE / MKW-Fun, where we increased that limit in order to make that work with longer track names. -- Leseratte (talk) 05:50, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
Spot on. --KantoEpic (talk) 06:22, 18 December 2020 (UTC)

SBK ambiguity

Hi, I found that SBK can mean both Snowboard Kids and Super Baldy Kart, the former being an N64 game and the latter a Super Mario Kart ROM hack. Four tracks from the ROM hack are labeled on ct.wiimm.de as tracks from the N64 game, i.e. Egypt A and B (families 7966 and 7973) and Tropics A and B (families 7991 and 7992). I don't think it's a big deal. I don't know how easy this would be, but there could be a new keyword for tracks from SNES ROM hacks to include all of these tracks plus some others like SNES Rainbow Road 2 (family 4862), which is currently labeled as just a Super Mario Kart Track, and a whole lot of other tracks by Retrostyle12 in general. Or maybe another fix would be to just remove the prefixes SNES and SBK from those paricular tracks (or maybe treat them as part of the name?). Cealgair (talk) 12:08, 23 December 2020 (UTC)

Good point! I want to discuss 2 solutions:
  1. Because SBK Ninja Land is the oldest track, we should use another abbreviation for Super Baldy Kart, eg, »SUBK« or »SBKA«.
  2. »SBK« seems to be a natural abbreviation for Super Baldy Kart, and »SK« or »NSK« or »SK64« for N64 Snowboard Kids.
Renaming on ct.wiimm.de or changing the prefix description is done very fast. Until now, all abbreviations have been chosen with care. But this is a common job for admins and mods — I will follow the decisions here until they are clear and full of logic.
I ask the other moderators for this!!
-- Wiimm (talk) 13:26, 23 December 2020 (UTC)
"SBK Ninja Land" should be renamed to "SK64 Ninja Land" in this case. --KantoEpic (talk) 14:26, 23 December 2020 (UTC)
I agree, this is probably the best way to handle it. Another way to possibly handle cases such as SNES Rainbow Road 2 is the way Cuberluigi CT Pack handled it, being "CSNES" (Custom SNES). Although personally, I think that it's fine to leave it at just SNES. Trainiax/SwampyGator (talk) 16:49, 23 December 2020 (UTC)
I added the choice »SK64« (for "SK64 Ninja Land") later and it's my favorite now. So I'll change the pages. I think, best is to leave the redirect to support external references. -- Wiimm (talk) 17:43, 23 December 2020 (UTC)

Old CTGP Tracks missing Wiimms CT Archive link

Hi, I have seen there are some old CTGP tracks that currently do not have CTGP links to Wiimms CT Archive, such as Mountain Path, Love Circuit, Riverview Square, Rocky Cliff, Volcano Beach 3, Lavaflow Volcano II, GCN Baby Park (Tock) and Strobenz Desert. Will those CTGP tracks get the Wiimms CT Archive links sometime. Since most of the CTGP tracks are getting Wiimms CT Archive links currently. -- Octanevinny (talk) 01:50, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

I can't follow you. Example Mountain Path: The wiki page contains 3 versions and ct.wiimm.de an additional ctgp version. Where is the missed link? -- Wiimm (talk) 12:18, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
I actually meant the CTGP links for most of those tracks do not have CT distribution links yet in ct.wiimm.de. I was referring to the CT distribution, not the WBZ files. By the way, Kanto did Mountain Path yesterday. -- Octanevinny (talk) 05:54, 1 January 2021 (UTC)
When a track is added to the archive, it's SHA1 is checked against all existing distributions and if they match a link is created. Since I literally took those files from v1.03.0058 of CTGP, I think that the issue is with the distribution.txt submitted for the old CTGP versions, and they'd need to be remade. Moderator Right

Hello, I was wondering if you'd be able to enable a permission for moderators. From what I've gathered, administrators have the ability to move a page without creating a redirect, but regular moderators do not. Is it possible for you to give us that permission as technical administrator? It would reduce some work for us since we always just delete the page manually afterwards. Thank you, Trainiax/SwampyGator (talk) 04:01, 23 January 2021 (UTC)

I'll trey in the next week. I had (and have) a febrile flu for the past week (not Corvid-19). Do you know the rights name= -- Wiimm (talk) 19:25, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
I found this: Not create redirects from source pages when moving pages (suppressredirect). Hope that's what you were looking for! 🏁_____🌲______🚗_____🌳 Krummers (talk) 20:07, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
I set: $wgGroupPermissions['Moderator']['suppressredirect'] = true;. So you can try it. -- Wiimm (talk) 14:33, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
It appears we have it now, thank you! Trainiax/SwampyGator (talk) 14:46, 25 January 2021 (UTC)

Hello, I was wondering if you'd be able to enable another permission for moderators. this time the option to revert more than one edit on a individual page. From what I have gathered, administrators also have the ability to revert more than one edit on a individual page, but regular moderators actually do not. Is it possible for you to give us that permission as technical administrator aswell?. It would reduce some more work for us since we have to manually edit the individual page instead to correct everything up back to the way it was previously in an older edit, Thanks. By the way, I found this: Quickly rollback the edits of the last user who edited a particular page (rollback). --Octanevinny (talk) 14:59, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

Edit: Tock already enabled it for us now, so were fine with it now. Octanevinny (talk) 15:52, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

Old pages

Hi, I found that some old pages like Wiimms Mario Kart Fun 2011-06/Videos have several issues: some internal links are redlinks or link to disambiguation pages, many videos are missing. I think it will take some time to fix all of that, so I'm here to ask if you think it's worth it or if you think those pages are superfluous and might as well be deleted. -- Cealgair (talk|contribs) 12:20, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

The site is now 10 years old. Therefore, it could also be removed completely. On the other hand, there are some videos from old tracks, which is interesting. I would therefore be fine with removing the page as well as adding new video. -- Wiimm (talk) 18:06, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
All things considered I think I'll leave them as they are for now. -- Cealgair (talk|contribs) 16:23, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
The moderators and I have been discussing the topic. We've come to the conclusion that those pages are unnecessary and will be deleted. I have taken the task on me to go through the entire Wiimms Mario Kart Fun series and update the pages to current standards. If anyone wants to help, that would be appreciated. 🏁_____🌲______🚗_____🌳 Krummers (talk) 11:15, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
As already told, I'm fine with this conclusion. -- Wiimm (talk) 17:36, 14 March 2021 (UTC)

An issue when shifting a track to fix Item Position Bug

Hi, there is one problem when I did shift the track, Vesuvio's Inferno, to fix the Item Position Bug in an update that is currently being worked on, the whole course model was shifted, but the casino_roulette object which was originally below the Thwomp did not move anywhere at all with the course model. Help would be very appreciating. Octanevinny (talk) 07:09, 9 March 2021 (UTC)

There are some (or 1= objects that can be moved. casino_roulette is one of them. Sniki has much experience with it because of tracks Marble Towers, Glimmer Express Trains and Wiimmfi Station. -- Wiimm (talk) 17:35, 14 March 2021 (UTC)

About the new "open requests" page

Hi, first of all, I think that was a great idea. Second, I think it would be best to have sections named something like "Missing Tracks", "Wrong Filenames" and "Other issues" (which could have subsections under it) plus a section for each common issue that I obviously missed, rather than a different meaningless title for each request. I guess we'll see if those titles you thought of will be useful, but for a message as short as "Bonita Harbor is missing the version name" I genuinely wouldn't know which title to put. Sorry if this message was too much overthinking. -- Cealgair (talk|contribs) 22:07, 18 March 2021 (UTC)

Now that I think about it, I think that the "Wrong Filenames" section should actually be a table with three columns: one for the id, one for the old filename, and one with the suggested one. This way the section would be uniform rather than having a bunch of noise given by signatures, lines and English words. -- Cealgair (talk|contribs) 22:16, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
I see the issue was solved -- Cealgair (talk|contribs) 10:25, 19 March 2021 (UTC)
That was one resoan for to create the new pages. -- Wiimm (talk) 15:21, 19 March 2021 (UTC)

Inconsistency in 2014-01.

Hey Wiimm. As we were updating the page for Wiimms Mario Kart Fun 2014-01, we realized that while on ct.wiimm.de it says that "LEGO Racing Imperial Grand Prix" was in slot 24.1, according to the "track-list.txt" in the download, it's in slot 30.4. We'd like to know which is correct to make the page accurate. Thanks, Trainiax/SwampyGator (talk) 18:55, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

I verified it now. It's curios, but both are correct! In the beginning, "LEGO-R" was not a known prefix and so the track was sorted under "L". The later update sorted it under "R". From the current view, 30.4 is more correct. I already save SHA1 lists in slot order, but I ignore them until now. Maybe I have to save the prefix list to avoid such incompatible sorting.
Anyway, it doesn't matter for online gaming, because you can't play online with any of these version. -- Wiimm (talk) 11:49, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
My comment is not truth at all: Before "LEGO" was the prefix (sorted under "R"), then "LEGO-R" (sorted under "I"). So 24.1 is the better choice. -- Wiimm (talk) 14:01, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
I checked the distribution in game this morning and it was sorted under R, so I put it in the same place on Wiimms Mario Kart Fun 2014-01. Krummers(#1936) (talk) 14:17, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

Daydream

Hello Wiimm, I would like to remind you that Daydream v2.1 is not yet on the Custom Track Reference :). --Unsigned comment by KiwiPowerGreen (talk).

Please post any other requests for his Archive here. I already did the one you mentioned above. Krummers(#1936) (talk) 10:42, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
I watch the page, but in the last weeks I was very busy to implement the new Wiimmfi feature. -- Wiimm (talk) 13:37, 21 May 2021 (UTC)

mdush

The description of mdush says ''small jump ramp from Mario Circuit and Moo Moo Meadows'', but mDush isn't actually used on Moo Moo Meadows. -- KiwiPowerGreen (talk) 06:29, 2 June 2021 (UTC)

You are right about Moo Moo Meadows. But the online data is just a copy of Object that I make occasionally. So please edit the page -- Wiimm (talk) 14:23, 2 June 2021 (UTC)

Yeah. But some tracks not yet, Like this one. http://wiki.tockdom.com/wiki/Timber_Rapids
I want only help. Sorry.--Snake (talk) 18:01, 13 August 2021 (UTC)
No worries. As you probably already could tell, it did end up making it into the next Intermezzo. -- Trainiax/SwampyGator (talk | contribs) 02:47, 13 September 2021 (UTC)

Codename: BIGBOX

Out of curiosity, why is v1.0.RC2 of Codename: BIGBOX unable to be downloaded off of your archive? The download link isn't private; it's available off of the Wiiki page here. -- Trainiax/SwampyGator (talk | contribs) 02:47, 13 September 2021 (UTC)

That file was part of a test case that wasn't deactivated. Fixed with next update. -- Wiimm (talk) 08:45, 18 September 2021 (UTC)

Downloads per hour from ct.wiimm.de

Hi, I know that the Archive only allows you to download up to 20 wbz files per hour. I noticed that if I ask the Archive to download zip files containing ten tracks each (example), then I can download more than 2 of those zip files per hour, and thus more than 20 tracks per hour. I'm here to ask if this is intended and if you're okay with me exploiting this in a future release of Cealgair's CT Downloader, especially considering that there's a Windows port in the works and that more people might use it in the future. -- Cealgair (talk|contribs) 17:28, 18 September 2021 (UTC)

Have you seen my comment on WBZ Converter?

Almost two months ago, I had added a problem specifically with converting the WBZ for Lava Fortress (Ugotowned35000vr) to SZS, in order to add a download link, and I'm only now adding this here as I still haven't been able to find a solution/workaround. Would you be able to look into this yourself and potentially find out what's going on? Thanks. Tragiic (talk | contribs) 19:33, 18 October 2021 (UTC)

About collecting texture hacks

Hi, I've noticed the page Talk:List of Texture Hacked Tracks/Collecting Tracks and I downloaded the filesystem template. After reading the introduction, I wanted to ask whether track edits should be left out or included in directories 4 and 5. I also wanted to ask what your preferred method of receiving the zip file at the end is. -- Cealgair (talk|contribs) 10:21, 16 November 2021 (UTC)

In the meantime, I have completed DS Twilight House. The only two edits I found are already on the Archive, so I didn't bother with them and I just included the textures. I uploaded the zip file on Google Drive. Please let me know if there are any errors. And again, let me know what your preferred method of receiving the zip file is. -- Cealgair (talk|contribs) 10:56, 16 November 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for your help!! Include edits in 4 or 5. About ZIP: Give me a download link either here or as private message @ wii-homebrew.com -- Wiimm (talk) 11:07, 16 November 2021 (UTC)
I have updated the zip file at the same link as before (Google Drive). I added N64 Bowser's Castle and moved two hacks of DS Twilight House from 2 to 4. As I'll move on, I'll just keep updating the same zip file, so the link will not change. I won't send you a message here every time because you will be able to see my progress by looking at the history of Talk:List of Texture Hacked Tracks/Collecting Tracks. -- Cealgair (talk|contribs) 18:03, 16 November 2021 (UTC)
Thanks, but please don't update because I have to manage already imported files again. Please use always a new empty template. -- Wiimm (talk) 18:16, 16 November 2021 (UTC)
About "Misty Twilight Swamp Dxrk)" versions v1.hns and v1.hns2: You put them in category 2 and category 4. Which category is correct? -- Wiimm (talk) 18:22, 16 November 2021 (UTC)
Category 4 is correct. They are not WiFi safe). Trainiax/SwampyGator (talk | contribs) 19:15, 16 November 2021 (UTC)
Sorry, I must have typed cp instead of mv. Yes, 4 is correct. I will use a new template every time, and I will post the new link here. -- Cealgair (talk|contribs) 21:35, 16 November 2021 (UTC)

"Pumpkin Hill v1 (ShadowLuigi-NG-) [r83]" is the same as "Pumpkin Hill v1 (SpyKid) [r24].szs", and it is definitely a slot 2.4 track. -- Wiimm (talk) 23:48, 16 November 2021 (UTC)
I edited Pumpkin Hill (GCN DK Mountain Texture) to remove the download for v1.0, since that's how I got it. If I recall correctly, that download was put up by Trainiax, so maybe he's got the right file somewhere. -- Cealgair (talk|contribs) 00:13, 17 November 2021 (UTC)

That's right, you missed the discussion about it. The (first?) goal is to ban so-called texture hacks on Wiimmfi, which are unfair. Therefore, all tracks from the Wiiki are categorized in a first step. -- Wiimm (talk) 22:26, 27 November 2021 (UTC)
Thanks. Krummers informed me about this (see my talk page). To be honest I started giving my help to this project because I thought they were going on the Archive, but I still finished because I had time and I still think this was a good thing to do. I had a chat with Trainiax on Discord, and he told me that these texture hacks are being tested mainly by him and Krummers, whereas tracks on the Archive are tested by you, so I guess that's why they can't be added to the Archive. One idea could be to add a "texture" class to the Archive (alongside "select" and so on), to clarify that those are texture hacks that you added for preservation purposes but that you didn't test yourself. -- Cealgair (talk|contribs) 10:24, 28 November 2021 (UTC)
The "texture" class on ct.wiimm.de is already an idea (mid/long term). -- Wiimm (talk) 19:29, 28 November 2021 (UTC)

Version Numbers

On every page on the Wiiki, we have standardized version numbers to include at least one decimal point when it is a "v*" style release. Wiimms Mario Kart History 2021-12 should not be any different, it should be "v1.0" and not "v1" to match with the entirety of the rest of the Wiiki. You say that it was because of the fact that a possible new version would instead become "v2 / v2.0", but that would not be an issue by including the ".0" part. For example, Ancient Ruins (Luigi Circuit Texture) goes from "v1.0" to "v2.0" to "v3.0", instead of "v1.0" to "v1.1" to "v1.2". I don't want to cause an edit war, especially not between moderators, so for now I'm going to leave the page as it is until you get a chance to read this. --Trainiax/SwampyGator (talk | contribs) 01:32, 19 December 2021 (UTC)

I don't believe it! Some authors use "v1.01" or "v.1.1" or "v1.1.1" or "v1.01.2" or "v.1.1b". So the author decides how to number the version. In case of MKW-Fun I only used and will use whole integers without fraction. This number is used for the download file, in ISO image and within the distribution.
An exception is ct.wiimm.de, where it is more important to keep versions numbers short as possible because the very hard name length limit.

Email

Hello. Since you are the technical administrator of the Custom Mario Kart Wiiki, I felt I should report the issue with you. I have recently changed my account email to a new address. One that I actually use and get notified on whenever I receive new email. This is helpful as I wish to stay up-to-date with changes on pages I watch. Gmail however is not a fan the mails sent and the messages are filtered under "spam". This prevents Gmail from notifying me from any messages sent by the wiki.

I don't know if this is something Google is doing wrong, or if its on the Wiki's side. But I thought it best to mention. It might be of help troubleshooting.

These are some of the messages I've missed. This screenshot was taken from my Spam folder.

Hopefully, this may be resolved soon. I will look into things on my side. If anything changes, I'll be sure to let you know.
