That's All, Folks
As of June 8th, 2022, I am officially retired from Mario Kart Wii modding. There are a few reasons for why I decided to quit, but mainly I don't enjoy the process of making custom tracks as much as I used to, and I think it's time to move on and spend my time on hobbies that are a little more rewarding. My Policies section below has been updated to be futureproof. Also check the bottom of the page for assets I'm giving away. Otherwise, it's been a fun journey. I've made friendships that I will never forget. I want to thank everyone who tested my tracks and helped me troubleshoot issues; everyone who played my tracks and praised them; everyone who played games with me; everyone who just wanted to be my friend. I love you all. ❤️ –Citrus (talk) 22:54, 8 June 2022 (UTC)

I'm Citrus, and I am a custom track creator. I try to make tracks that look good and have at least somewhat interesting gameplay. You can contact me on Discord or via Youtube.

Policies

  • You may update my tracks, but only to fix bugs and issues.
  • You may remake my tracks if you want, I don't really mind.
  • I'd be flattered if you wanted to add one of my tracks to your distribution! It would be nice if you edited the relevant track's page to show that it's in the distribution.
  • I don't want anyone to use the textures from Sandstone Cliffs because I got them from a website that does not allow redistribution of their textures, and I don't want to take any chances. I don't mind if you take textures from my other tracks.
  • If you want to use a custom object or other model from one of my tracks, you may, but please give credit. Stealing Is Not Cool!

About Me

I have been a Nintendo gamer all my life and am a big fan of the Mario and Zelda series. I rediscovered Mario Kart Wii in 2018 when I was exploring the world of Wii modding. Before that, I had done some 3D modeling, but not with Blender or Sketchup. I tried to make a custom track with Sketchup then, but I wasn't very successful. Fast forward to 2020, when I decided to learn to use Blender once and for all. It was a long process, but it was worth it as I finally completed my first custom track, Jungle Glade, in September of 2020. Then, I got Discord and started to be a part of the Mario Kart Wii modding community. Since then, I've made some more tracks and gotten better at the whole process. I've participated in a few Custom Track Jams (with Racer's Retreat, I Feel Like I'm Falling, Timeshift Temple, and Escape from Cataquack Castle) as well as a Turbo Jam (Dark Forest Path).

CT Secret Santa

I also run a little CT Creation event on Discord and my YouTube channel where people submit designs for custom tracks which are then given to other creators at random. No one knows which designs are being used, or who has been given them, or who made them... that is, until the video is released! If you want to check it out, you can join the server at https://discord.gg/4Qvx8fWxNj.
CTSS has been discontinued! Thanks to everyone who participated!

Assets & PoC

I've actually worked on a lot of custom tracks that never made it to release. I got left with a few assets that I have no use for, so I thought I might share them here.

  • Discord, .blend A Megaleg-like robot that I modeled for an unfinished jungle track (Videos 1 2 3)
  • Discord, .blend An autumn birch tree
  • Discord, .zip An airship from Super Mario Galaxy that I ported over VolcanoRock. It was for a collaboration with JadenMKW based on Good Egg Galaxy. With KMP settings, you can make it bob up and down and move back and forth.
  • The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword also uses BRRES, so I was able to extract some animations. All Discord links: lava shining light water surface waterfall

I also have some things that are more along the lines of a proof of concept.

  • You can very easily change the look of a chain chomp by replacing its envmap texture. This is overlooked all the time for some reason and has potential for some cool texture hacks. For example, here's a gold one: Discord, .brres — Just drop this in noclip and see how it looks. Notice how the texture follows you as you pivot around.
  • I found a really promising object: the Pokis from Peach Beach. They load a chr0 when the player gets within a certain distance. This has huge potential, but is sadly limited by the fact that the object first has to rotate toward you, and the fact that it still makes its silly noises no matter how you edit it. Regardless, you can make some really cool things with it. I believe Tock used the object to make grass move when you touch it for his Dino Dino Jungle remake. I used it to make birds that fly away, as seen here:
  • Mine look a little janky because I modeled and animated them myself; I'm sure someone else could do better. I think ZPL started using the object for this effect in some of his tracks. You can also make simpler effects with the object. Try loading this track and driving forward slowly: Discord, .szs. I had lots of plans for this object but never had a good chance to use it. There's definitely a lot of untapped potential there to be explored.

Happy modding!

And here's one last Easter Egg. Not sorry. https://wiiki-content.acaruso.xyz/840426172746956870/984226689326403635/such_a_beautiful_quote.png
