In my opinion, I think most of the first paragraph should be changed, as statements such as "If you replace the BRRES files from Draw Demo into Mario Circuit, you'll get Mario Circuit with stars everywhere" are false.

I made a complete analysis on draw_demo, and posted my findings on TCRF as well as Twitter. It is actually a very similar version to loser_demo (which features an early design of the course), albeit with the textures being stored on the v2 format, which causes the corrupted look, due to 4 additional bytes being present in v2 that shift most of the actual metadata, causing the game to read wrong header parameters.
