Mario Kart Adventures is a Custom Track Distribution with 8 themed cups. The goal of the project is to build a polished and unique version of Mario Kart. Most of the characters have either been texture modded or replaced by a completely new character. The game is distributed with a soundtrack mostly made up of free fan-made arrangements of video game music.
This project started in March 2014. The first alpha was released in late May 2014. The alpha is a mashup of other projects by other people without any modifications done to them except for small changes to prevent crashes. The beta plans to build on the alpha content with many bug fixes and optimizations.
Version 0.81 adds two Spanish translations: one localized for PAL and one for NTSC. There are also minor fixes to textures and sound equalization, but no new content was added in-game. Instead, this version introduces major changes to its build scripts. Riivolution Generator support is now enabled for Windows and Linux machines. Also, the scripts now break up the game into five sections: Tracks, Characters, Items, Music, and UI. With advanced settings, the user can turn patching sections of the game on and off, allowing you to turn a full-game patch into a character-only patch, or a music and track patch, or any other combination you desire. Beyond this feature, the scripts now also have automated texture and model modding, character extractors and injectors, easier-to-use naming conventions for music and track names, and other smaller features aimed at simplifying the development process of Mario Kart mods and removing Nintendo content from the patch.
Progress on this project is currently frozen as the creators pursue creating other mods. It may be picked up again at a later date.
Characters, tracks and items will receive some modifications. Modifications will mostly be done to fix bugs, but there are also plans to make certain parts of tracks less frustrating and other parts more exciting.
The first goal of our physics modding is to even out the differences between karts and bikes so that bikes are no longer clearly superior. Karts will all receive a speed boost while all bikes will be made to drift inwards. The goal is to be similar to Mario Kart 8, where bikes are better are turns while karts are better at straight paths.
