New Tracks

Overview

This list is for new tracks that have not yet been added to CTGP-R. Please indicate the desired track and music slots in the proper fields. All tracks will be put through the track testing process by the CTGP Track Council and the CTGP Track Testing Server. The decision to accept or reject a track lies solely with the CTGP Track Council, with MrBean35000vr having the last word about tracks.

To submit a track, please put the track in the "Unreviewed Tracks" table, and make sure to give it the "Unreviewed" tag, not the "Under Review" tag. Tracks that are labeled as Under Review have been noticed by the CTGP Track Council and have been put in their personal list of tracks to review. If a track is updated while still in the testing process, feel free to put the track back in the section that it was originally in, but make sure to indicate that it was updated. Do NOT re-submit a track version that was already submitted previously. You may ONLY submit a track if you are directly credited as an author or designer of said track. If you submit a track that you are not credited for, it will be removed.

Disclaimer
CTGP has bore witness to over a decade of new custom tracks, a period of time in which standards have continuously risen. For this reason, the modern-day selection process, run by us members of the CTGP Track Council, is intensive and relies upon many dedicated players engaging in extensive evaluations in order to judge and bugtest tracks.

Our mission is to introduce polished tracks to CTGP. We cannot dedicate these manhours into thoroughly detailing any issues with tracks that, at a mere first glance, blatantly do not meet our standards; our resources are best directed towards tracks that prove themselves as candidates with significant potential for CTGP. For this reason, our first priority is selecting these tracks, then followed by producing reports of thorough tests; if a track cannot pass the former, we have better things to do than perform the latter.
We, unfortunately, must reserve the right not to be obligated to treat all tracks equally.

As such, if any submitted track clearly does not meet the quality standard of modern-day CTGP tracks, it will therefore be moved to the Rejected Tracks table with the tag "Does not pass initial quality checks."

It should also be noted that the following list of tracks are unable to be submitted to CTGP for varying reasons:

  • New tracks from Mario Kart 8 (due to potential copyright).
    • Note: Retro remakes of tracks that appeared in Mario Kart 8 (e.x. SNES Donut Plains 3) are still eligible for review.
  • New tracks from Mario Kart Tour (due to potential copyright).
    • Note: Retro remakes of tracks that appeared in Mario Kart Tour (e.x. SNES Koopa Beach 2) are still eligible for review.
  • Texture hacks of current CTGP tracks, or texture hacks of previously reviewed / rejected tracks that do not fix the issue(s) given for the track.

Legend

Accepted The track has been accepted without issue, and will be included in a future update.
In Testing The track has been accepted, but is still currently being bug-tested by the Track Testers.
Maybe The track has been accepted previously, but second deliberations are required by the Track Testers. This will rarely ever be used.
Needs Fixes The track has been accepted, but further action by the author is recommended.
Updated The track has been accepted, but an update has been released after the accepted version.
Updating The track has been accepted, but the author is currently working on a new update to the track.

  • A few respawns are facing directly off the track.
  • The track is missing outro cameras.
  • The starting pole position is in the wrong direction (1st place should be on the right side).

Moderate:

  • The CPUs keep flinging themselves off of the track on the ramps leading up to the temple (since they aren't going straight forwards - path correction can't happen mid-air).
  • Very minor Position Tracking Bugs on the final turn. (Discord)
  • Moderate lighting flickers with the water and inside of the cave.
  • The waterfall after the mushroom has sandy dust particles at the bottom.
  • The water in the mushroom area has no splash FX.
  • Some people were asking if you could make the screaming pillar not spaz out 24/7, but that might be too much work to be worth it. This one is optional.
3DS Mario Circuit (ZPL) Needs Fixes 1.5 Mario Circuit Luigi Circuit 3 Major:
  • Bullet Bill shouldn't drop people onto the spiral.
  • Track is missing intro and outro cameras.
  • Some small KCL holes in the fence wall on the spiral; can probably be bumped through? (Gyazo)
  • OOB Checkpoint bug on the ramp after the spiral.

Moderate:

  • There are multiple BrawlBox Seams present throughout the track (you can see under the track where the road and off-road should meet).
3DS Rainbow Road (Bladestorm227) Needs Fixes 1.4.1 Rainbow Road Rainbow Road 3 Major:
  • Item route is missing on the meteor shortcut (after Saturn) - Bullet Bill will go backwards there.
  • Road texture / material is corrupt on Wii.
  • The respawn on the ramp around the planet should probably be fixed (I have no idea what this means - ask the testing discord for more info).
  • Waiting on completion of the spinning spiral.

Moderate:

  • Some of the ramps at the end are missing wall KCL (Twitch).
3DS Wario Shipyard (Skipper93653) Needs Fixes 1.0 Koopa Cape Wario's Gold Mine 3

Moderate:

  • Pipe currents are a bit too strong in some places (should be nerfed to about half power if possible).
Back to the 80s Needs Fixes Rainbow Road Rainbow Road 3 Major:
  • The ramp shortcut at the beginning is really overpowered (saves more done shroomless driving through the grass).
  • The elevated area on the second part of the shortcut mentioned above is entirely trickable (only the edges should be).
  • The ramp entering the first part of the shortcut mentioned above sends you into the ceiling most of the time.
  • Lots of various issues with KCL, Item Routes.
  • Some testers thought the textures were very low-quality, and they don't seam properly in places.
  • You can go through the fence in this specific spot and get permanently stuck OOB. (Gyazo)

Moderate:

  • There's some weird KCL on the corner of the first turn that's only present while in a Mega Mushroom. (Gyazo)
Beagle Plains Needs Fixes DS Peach Gardens DS Peach Gardens 3 Major:
  • Lag and PTBs all over the place
  • Bill route might've tried to take cut that was blocked off
Bowser's Lava Lair Needs Fixes 1.7 Bowser's Castle Bowser's Castle 3 Major:
  • The rail at the end after the last few ramps has an invisible KCL at the end of it (Discord)
  • Camera glitch if you fall short of the upper path, might not be fixable unless the path gets raised or something.
  • The shortcut you take while small can be very precisely done with the Honeycoupe.
  • The outro cameras are messed up, supposedly due to an outdated Wiimm's Tools function that has scaling issues on player based cameras.
Christmas Wish Needs Fixes DK Summit DK Summit 3 Major:
  • The whole track should be brighter and/or higher contrast, and should be upscaled.
  • Some of the road and off-road is too hard to distinguish between.
  • Direction in the underwater section is confusing. (Add arrows?)
  • The item box on the beginning present shortcut should be removed.
Dark Matter Fortress Needs Fixes 1.6 N64 Bowser's Castle N64 Bowser's Castle 3 Major:
  • The boost ramp properties on the pink blocks make it possible for you to fly over the end and fall off, due to the large size and a sudden change in slope.
Desert Creek Needs Fixes 1.3 Dry Dry Ruins Dry Dry Ruins 3 Major:
  • Bouncing before this ramp can cause you to unintentionally low trick and fall off: (Discord)
  • The same ramp is not able to be done while small in some situations.
  • You can get stuck behind the wall to the right of the finish line, and since top of the walls is oob sometimes just touching them kills you: (Twitch)
  • The respawn point after the lake section is on the ground. Check for other respawn points like this.

Moderate:

  • The most common complaint from our testers was the slippery road, how it makes the track much harder than if it were not slippery.
  • The lake section might need a complete rework from its current state.
Evening Harbor Needs Fixes Daisy Circuit DS Delfino Square 3 Moderate:
  • A lot of the shortcuts in the track are too overpowered.
  • The diagonal stretch of road between the last two turns should be removed.
Flooded Cavern Needs Fixes 1.2 N64 DK's Jungle Parkway N64 DK's Jungle Parkway 3 Major:
  • Bullet Bill drops you into the water after the first split sometimes.
  • Bullet Bill goes over off-road on one of the split paths (it should just go on the normal road there).
  • Ramps at the end shouldn't be slow ramps.

Moderate:

  • If you fail the shortcut that skips the split paths, you should probably respawn where you fell, not back at the beginning (if possible).
  • Some people think the track needs more visual decoration... but that's up to you.
GBA Yoshi Desert (MysterE99) Needs Fixes DS Desert Hills DS Desert Hills 3 Major:
  • The textures should be much less bright and/or desaturated.
  • The shortcut at the end should allow you to drive underwater, and the ramp shouldn't be a slow ramp.
  • The slippery road should be changed to normal road.

Moderate:

  • The giant advertisements in the background are extremely distracting, but this is obviously really minor.
  • The whole track could use a minor downscale.
GP Pac Mountain Needs Fixes Moo Moo Meadows 3 Major:
  • The red/white striped edges of the road are too janky (send you too high when you go over them). Make them flat.
Kamek's Library Needs Fixes N64 Bowser's Castle DS Twilight House 3 Major:
  • Two jumps can't be made while small.
  • Mini Turbo/Mushroom boost fire particles don't show up correctly.
Jungle Glade Needs Fixes 1.1 N64 DK's Jungle Parkway N64 DK's Jungle Parkway 3 Major:
  • Position tracker bugs at the ending beach section
  • There is a respawn point on top of a water current

  • The cannon drops everyone in the same spot upon exiting

  • Fire-snakes cannot come blindly out of the ground.

  • Dock has bean corners
  • Strong reflection effect causes graphical glitches, is generally confusing to look at
  • The end of the dock is paper thin, can't even see it from underneath
  • Split path is misleading, the first arrow you see points the wrong way
  • Beach section has OoB problems
  • There are many blind turns, especially near the end
  • Checkpoints by the finish line do not extend far enough in either direction, will not count lap if too far to the right or against the wall on the left
Mushroom Mountain Needs Fixes Mushroom Gorge Mushroom Gorge 3
  • "A lot of unnecessary boost panels and annoying shortcuts makes the track feel a lot worse than the current version of Peaks. The ending part, as well, has a lot of issues, and should probably be revised to be almost exactly like the current Peaks ending."

  • Intro cameras should be cleaned up if possible

  • The part with the blind sloped turn before the loop should be less blind.
  • Lava animations don't loop properly.
  • The vertical loop is really janky and should be made more consistent if possible.
  • The finish line is really hard to see.
  • Bugs with Respawns, Position Tracking.
Puppy Play Park Needs Fixes 1.6 Moo Moo Meadows Moo Moo Meadows 3 Major:
  • The track has a lot of frame drops, making it laggy to play in 12 player rooms

Moderate:

  • There aren't enough item boxes around the track
Re-Volt Botanical Garden Needs Fixes DS Peach Gardens DS Peach Gardens 3 Major:
  • The fountain should be out-of-bounds.
  • KCL shadows should probably be added to where the current shadows are.
  • The track needs an upscale.
  • Sticky road should be added at the bridge and right before the bridge.
Saltwater Lake Needs Fixes N64 DK's Jungle Parkway N64 DK's Jungle Parkway 3 Major:
  • The ending kamikaze strat is way too OP. Put OOB here so you die before you get to the line. (Discord)
  • No item routes on the ramp shortcut. (Discord)
Sarasa Kingdom Needs Fixes 1.2 Daisy Circuit Daisy Circuit 3 Major:
  • The first U-turn still has lag; This could possibly be a KCL issue rather than a track model issue.

Moderate:

  • This row of item boxes could be moved up way after the respawn point, to prevent people from backing up into them after falling off. (Twitch)
Sky Beach Needs Fixes 2.0 Koopa Cape Koopa Cape 2 Major:
  • There are no shadows cast on your character at the beginning section of the track.
  • Lag near the beginning in high player rooms.
Sundown Streets Needs Fixes Daisy Circuit Daisy Circuit 3 Moderate:
  • Bill routes can potentially drop you into cars.
  • One picture needs to be changed out (age rating issue).
Torrential Treetops Needs Fixes v1.0 N64 DK's Jungle Parkway N64 DK's Jungle Parkway 5 Major:
  • There are too many item sets to the point where it is very easy to get the shroom glitch on lap 4. Removing one of the item sets near the boost panels is one option.

Moderate:

  • If possible, increase the poly count of the road to alleviate its bumpiness
Urban Gallery Needs Fixes Mario Circuit Coconut Mall 3 Generally speaking, before this can be added, all of the textures need to be reworked / polished to be better visually. Aside from that, here's everything.

Major:

  • All of the split routes are kinda unbalanced (namely the 'shortcut' at the end).
  • The sides of the escalators have weird KCL and can give you bonk-tricks sometimes.
  • Some faulty bullet bill routes on the escalators.
  • Weird KCL bump when in a Mega Mushroom. (Gyazo)

Moderate:

  • The Chain Chomp at the end never poses any actual threat to the player. Consider making it more threatening and evil.
  • A lot of people found the giant trickable flower patch kind of annoying, as it's unexpected and is really out of the way to begin with; consider axing it?
Volcano Canyon Needs Fixes 1.1 Grumble Volcano Grumble Volcano 3 Major:
  • The forced wall bonk entering the volcano must be removed.
  • The most common complaint from the testers was the direct copy/pasting of visuals from Dragon Burial Grounds. These must be changed.

Moderate:

  • The ending shortcut is blind and very inconsistent.
  • The thwomps after the volcano drop are a bit too close to where you land, perhaps try moving them forward a bit.
Water Village (Bear) Needs Fixes 3.6 DS Delfino Square DS Delfino Square 3 Major:
  • There's an invisible wall at the end of the bridge before the cave, around here (Discord)

Moderate:

  • The main road has different SFX than was expected. This change is entirely optional, though.
Wii Tanks Needs Fixes 1.4 Moonview Highway GCN Cookie Land 3 Waiting on Conditional OOB implementation so the track works properly.

Major:

  • There is a way to break the conditional OOB at the first ramp. Shrooming with a spinhop + trick causes a checkpoint bug, and also doesn't trigger the COOB as a result. (Discord)
X Circuit Needs Fixes Luigi Circuit Luigi Circuit 3 Major:
  • Textures and overall visuals need fairly large updates (author is already working on this).
  • The one bridge-ramp needs to be aligned properly.
    • The bridge-ramp should also be on the minimap if it's supposed to be the main route.
  • The mega box should be removed.

Rejected Tracks

Divine Paradise Rejected 1.0 Koopa Cape Koopa Cape 3 Although the short, simple nature of this track garnered some appreciation, it is too thematically and graphically similar to other recently accepted tracks such as Secluded Island, Sky Beach, and Sky High Island that it was unfavourably compared to, resulting in an overwhelmingly neutral reception. The second half of the track was often cited as particularly plain and boring. Many walls are quite glitchy due to their angles and automatic lowering. Some graphical aspects are rather unpolished, too; the shadows and sand mipmaps are too extreme, the grass overhang texture is weird, you can see the void under the skybox, and there is a hole in the minimap at the finish line.
Elemental Cave Rejected 1.0 Wario's Gold Mine Wario's Gold Mine 4 or 5 Does not pass initial quality checks.
Escalator Action Rejected 1.0 Coconut Mall Coconut Mall 5 Does not pass initial quality checks, although it was very close to doing so. The concept is very unique, but the execution is not the best.
GBA Cheese Land (ZPL) Rejected 2.1 DS Desert Hills DS Desert Hills 3 Despite being remade from scratch shortly after its initial submission to address many initial concerns, this version still does not meet the potential of the Mario Kart 8 design. The complex slopes of the road make the track feel far, far more awkward to drive than it looks, especially at certain turns. Much of the landscape feels too much like a generic desert track. The cheese theming remains too sparse, many of the cheese models that do exist don't seem to fit together, and other decorations are strangely chosen (particularly the Piranha Plants and random crowds of spectators). A number of graphical defects are apparent, including gaps between parts of walls and many bits of janky shadow mapping. Some key elements of the Mario Kart 8 design feel missed, such as the ability to jump over certain Swiss-cheese-hole-like chasms, and the tunnel cut early in the track.

These many different areas that demonstrate a lack of polish come together to paint this track as quite rushed. Should these be addressed in a version that much better meets the track's potential, it would almost certainly be accepted.

Nelsonside Valley Rejected 1.0 GCN DK Mountain GCN DK Mountain 5 With a very lukewarm reception, this track was found to be too unremarkable and dull. Its plain grassy theme is tired, and although short layouts can be fun, this one doesn't offer enough to make the track's inclusion worthwhile. In addition to these issues, a lack of polish was reported in the various floating KMP objects, poor UV mapping, and jarring seams between textures.
Question Block Castlegrounds Rejected 1.1 N64 Bowser Castle N64 Bowser Castle 3 Does not pass initial quality checks.
Rainbow Mountain Fortress Rejected 1.0 Rainbow Road Rainbow Road 3 Does not pass initial quality checks. This track crashes on not only console, but Dolphin too, indicating that you did not test the track at all before you submitted it. The issue is very easily identifiable and takes under a minute to correct. This is the second time you have submitted a track that doesn't work. Fixing the issue and loading the track in Noclip reveals that it looks like this. For multiple excruciatingly apparent reasons, we ask: why would you submit this? Please refrain from submitting any further tracks to CTGP until your skills improve dramatically.
Ring of Fire Rejected 1.0 Grumble Volcano Grumble Volcano 3 The council was overwhelmingly neutral on this track, and the handful of members that did provide other votes leaned towards rejection. Bland, generic theming was cited often; this track was not found to stand out among the plethora of lava tracks in CTGP. The visuals appear primitive in certain aspects; the texture choices for the road and offroad are too close to solid colours. The ending gap cut is overpowered, and Bullet Bill routes are very prone to behaving poorly at the shortcuts and dropping players into offroad and pits. The potential is definitely there, but more work is needed; making an effort to differentiate the track's visuals from Grumble Volcano would certainly prove worthwhile.
Seaside Plains Rejected Beta 1 Luigi Circuit Koopa Cape 3 Does not pass initial quality checks.
Seaway Rejected 1.02 Koopa Cape Koopa Cape 3 Does not pass initial quality checks.
SNES Bowser Castle 1 (Bruh de la Boi) Rejected 1.0 GBA Bowser Castle 3 GBA Bowser Castle 3 3 Does not pass initial quality checks. It's a very nice idea, but it has a lot of room for improvement!
SNES Choco Island 1 (Noia) Rejected 2.1 SNES Mario Circuit 3 SNES Mario Circuit 3 3 This track came very close to passing the feedback stage, but just barely fell short. The most common complaints were the large amount of ramps around the track. These create a trickspam problem, making everyone go at mushroom speed the entire lap and making catching up very difficult. 3 laps also makes the track last 45 seconds at least, which is incredibly short and would be the shortest track in the game if it was added. Some council members also thought that the addition of the first Choco Island is unnecessary, considering the amount of retros in the game already and how simplistic this track is.
SNES Donut Plains 2 (ZPL) Rejected 1.0 SNES Mario Circuit 3 SNES Mario Circuit 3 3 Many of the changes made in this remake were poorly executed in ways that are significantly detrimental to gameplay. The road is overly lumpy, some turns are oddly difficult to take, and offroad contours are strange. Some shortcuts are blatantly broken, including the shroomless lake cut and the offroad at the final turn. The fence UVs, bad opening cameras, and holes in the minimap further demonstrate this track's rushed nature.
