Overview

In a far off land on Yoshi's Island lies a peaceful resort where Yoshis can relax and play in a tropical-like area. They nicknamed the place Yoshi Lagoon. However, the place grew more and more old to the point where the place did not seem to have any sort of appeal. Yoshis later abandoned this Yoshi-shaped lagoon and visited other places of the island like Yoshi Falls. The place is now used as a racetrack for everyone to watch.

Remake by Sucht93a

Version 1.0 is a huge model edit by Sucht93a. This version includes a complete new style, a lot of background decoration, off-road, walls, new objects, a whole new KCL and KMP. The decision to remake the track was felt by asking in the Wiimmfi custom track community Skype chat which classic track deserved a complete makeover.

After a talk with Sucht93a, Wiimm decided to use this track to improve the automatic definition of respawn points of his SZS Tools (v1.46a). Yoshi Lagoon v1.2 supports enemy and item routes along all main short cuts and many new respawn points, also at the mushrooms. The track file contains the developer KMP text file as course-kmp.txt.

Slot Information

This track will only work on slot 6.2 because of the object HeyhoShipGBA.

Version Date of release Information
Beta 2010-10-30 The original Beta, having been called "Yoshi Circuit", looked nothing like the current version. It looked like a flat track laying in the sky with a starry sky above it. The track was incompletable in 5 minutes and consisted of bikes only turns and blocky corners. No objects other than item boxes lied on the tracks, except for the cars that drove underneath it, as the track was originally made off of Moonview Highway. Respawn points would point you in the wrong direction, and item routes hardly worked. CPUs would also constantly drive off of a cliff.
Beta 2 2010-10-30 The track was remade into Mario Kart Wii. It was now smaller and had more curvy turns. The track was also made off of Mushroom Gorge, allowing it to have trampoline mushrooms and Goombas (not used). Little shortcuts were added. However, at this time, the track was really bright with textures.

At this time, the track was now called "Yoshi Lagoon". The track still had the same design as the new Beta but had more proper texturing to it. It also had more 3D depth, allowing it to not just look like a floating platform in the sky. Item routes were also fixed and trees were also added for further detail. Cataquacks were also added.
RC2 2011-02-28 After several criticizing comments, Yoshi Lagoon received further development. With a KMP expansion, more trees and bouncy mushrooms were added. A new, but slower, path was added and an actual cannon was added instead of having just a slanted wall. Little arrow signs were added as well a wooden bridge. The bouncy mushrooms finally received a nicer looking texture and the speed boosts also received a new texture. However, the Cataquacks were sadly removed due to causing glitches. Furthermore, the lap count system now works better and some of the bouncy mushrooms received slightly new height values.

v1.1 2015-10-30 Fixed the item route in the first shortcut.
v1.2 2015-11-12 Update by Wiimm:
  • New enemy and item routes (23 groups each).
  • New check points (11 groups).
  • Fully automatic definition of all respawn points.
v1.3 2016-02-01 Update by Wiimm:
  • Some check points moved to allow the short cut over the headland.

Trivia

  • As previously stated, the track was originally entitled as "Yoshi Circuit".
  • Another obvious note is that the entire track is shaped like Yoshi jumping into the air, it shares the idea of using a character-shaped minimap with the Mario Kart: Double Dash!! track Yoshi Circuit.
  • This custom track was the first custom track to use a Cataquack as an object. However they were causing freezes in offline VS mode, so they were later removed.
