About me

Hai everybody :3 !! Name's Nara Hiero, but you can call me Nara. (No, it is not my real name)
I'm a teenage boy from Canada. I was born in Quebec, so my first language is French (hence my bad English), but I now live in Ontario.

I've had Mario Kart Wii for quite some time (around 2012 iirc), but barely played until mid- to late-2018 (I'd say less than 100 hours).
Back then I wasn't able to beat most of Nintendo's fast staff ghosts lol.

The first game I ever played competitively was Minecraft, which I got during summer 2015.
Put hours and hours into it, perfecting my PVP skills (lol), until I picked my MKW game from an old box.

A quick overview of my Mario Kart Wii history

I first got CTGP on November 2018, and that's when I started playing MKW seriously.
I played with CTGP for around 5 months, then, for some reasons that I can't recall, I switched to the emulator.
For 2 months I grinded regs, and managed to beat the time of 17 out of 32 of CTGP's expert staff ghosts.
Went back to playing on the Wii, where I beat a couple more Nintendo track CTGP staff ghosts.
2 months later, I bought myself a new Wii! Literally, the only reason I did that was to not have to share my CTGP ghost database profile with my brother LMAO.
From that point on, I started the long and arduous grind to reach 250 gold stars. (It's around June 2019)

-- Fast forward a couple months --
2019-09-08: Reached 100 gold stars
2019-10-20: Reached 150 gold stars
2019-11-25: Reached 200 gold stars
2020-01-05: Reached 225 gold stars

Right after I reached 225 gold stars, I completely stopped playing MKW for nearly 2 months.
Returned to MKW, but wasn't really active for the first 3 months. Only got 10 gold stars during that period.
My MKW grind resumed on May 16th of 2020.

Projects

I am currently working on a Custom Track editor, named Super Mario Kart Maker. The goal of that application is to allow creators to make CTs using a singular application, with an intuitive user interface.

This project is still in very early development, and I just started making the user interface.
However, the library that I am coding to handle Nintendo file formats is making very good progress. I called it CT Lib.

Super Mario Kart Maker

I just started working on the editor, and it is still completely useless. It's gonna take me a while to complete.
It is made using Qt, without the Qt Creator app.

Super Mario Kart Maker is open-source, released under the GPLv3+ license. Here is the link to the GitHub repository.

CT Lib

The library is currently on version 0.3, and is able to deal with formats such as Yaz0/Yaz1, U8, BRRES, KCL, and KMP.
Some parts are nearly done, while others still need a lot more work.

Yaz0/Yaz1: Optimal compression level, decent speed.
U8: Create, read, and write U8 archives.
BRRES: Create and write BRRES files, TEX0 mostly done, basic MDL0 support.
KCL: Create, read, and write KCL files.
KMP: Create, read, and write KMP files, no support for LE-CODE extensions.

CT Lib is open-source, released under the GPLv3+ license. Here is the link to the GitHub repository.
