Expired link

In the section "Choosing a Scale" there is an expired link to some custom track models on the SketchUp 3D warehouse, does anybody know where it used to link how to update it? Seeky (talk) 19:03, 11 February 2019 (UTC)

Meters?

Although the scaling works using the "Meters" option in 3dsmax, road should be about 2000 'meters' across, which doesn't make much sense. It's more like 2000 decimeters.

I don't know anything about max, I copied that line about 3DSMax and meters from the other article. Are you saying that 1 decimeter in max equals 1 MKWii unit when exporting? If so, change it.--Jefe 14:21, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
Units make no difference so as long as you are consistent with your selected unit all the way through the custom track creation process. In-game units are unit-less anyway. That being said, most tools will use SI units by default so it's usually good practice to just use meters. --Torran 14:35, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
I was stating that it just doesn't make sense to have a road that's 2 kilometers wide. Using current units, the in-game bikes are massive since they're 100 meters long.
--Ultimate Chimera (Guil) 14:47, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
Again, the real world units are not supposed to make sense; they exist only because certain tools can only consider the concept of units in such a fashion. --Torran 14:55, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
The MKWii Unit thing was already on the wiki before I started on CTs, I took it for granted that someone had determined the scale. The development team would have settled on some sort of scale during MKWii's development; that might as well be considered a MKWii Unit. Lots of game engines have that concept (Unreal Units, for example.) --Jefe 15:19, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
Well, all Wii games use the same units, as does Gamecube games. It could be assumed they're "Dolphin Units", coming from the Gamecube's original name.

The more I think about it, the more impossible the statement that "Mario Kart Wii is unit-less" is. You were right to remove the statement that "1 Meter equals 1 Mario Kart Unit" since game units are not real, and there will always be a conversion factor for converting models from one software (the modeling program) to the game. The fact that there is a factor, however, means that model is being converted from one set of unit to another, the units used by MKWii. Every game that displays information in 2D or 3D is going to have some sort of unit of measurement for the purposes of drawing the game world. Unlike the real world, there will be a limit of how small a distance can be rendered or measured; this is the game's base unit. --Jefe 17:19, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

MK7/3DS Scale

Factor 11.9308 is ~ 1200% and more than 120%. I'm not sure which value is correct.

The scales are a guideline and are not absolute. Technically 1200% is the correct value though. --Torran (talk) 02:40, 11 June 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for being so sharp-eyed, Wiimm. I see Torran already corrected his mistake, thanks for this. Maybe it would be a good thing to add the ~ sign, to make it more clear that it's just a guideline. By the way, I calculated these values with Blender, but experience shows that Wiimms SZS Tools use the same units. MrKoeikoei (talk) 11:55, 11 June 2015 (UTC)

Rewrite "It takes far more time and effort ..."

... "It takes far more time and effort to change a track's scale when the track is close to completion than it does in the early stages of the project."

Really? "wszst --scale" is much easier. A good chance for an insider and a native speaker to rewrite this part.
