On [http://www.mariokartwii.com/f72/custom-track-rankings-130371.html mwkwii.com] I have read, that there were bad votes made by trolls. After a check I can confirm, that there were many worst votes from users, that are not logged in. Because of that, I have removed all votes of such anonym users. For the future I plan to edit the voting script to allow only votes made by logged-in users. At the moment it's easier to clean the db frequently.

Editing

I can't edit the main page??
kHacker35000vr 12:10, 8 October 2011 (CEST)

I changed the protection because to many Bots changed the Main Page and to many People didnt added their News into the "All News". Just post your News on the "All News" page and the Admins/Mods will post it on the Main Page.
Tock 15:46, 8 October 2011 (CEST)

Page Locked?!

For what reason was the front page locked? These was no reason as far as I know, It needs to be un-locked. On occasion someone might make a new tutorial, or need to fix a typo/add something, and I'd rather not ask a moderator every time I need something edited, I request that the front page is unlocked.

Spamming reasons (include news that aren't one) Hanno 07:10, 20 October 2011 (CEST)
Maybe every 1 out of 30 end up being spam. Why don't we make the news it's own template so that people who are new won't know how to access the template, and so the main page can remain un-locked. I still request that the main page be un-locked.
-SuperMario64DS
I think the front page should remain protected. Since I've been here, it's gotten defaced a few times. It's an easy target for trolls and spammers. And it doesn't take long for search engines to grab bad versions of the front page, with tennis shoe ads and whatnot. However, I do agree on the template idea. The front page will no longer need to be edited for basic track news updates. --Jefe 07:47, 20 October 2011 (CEST)
You mean something like {{main-news}} (I like this idea)
Hanno 07:49, 20 October 2011 (CEST)
Yes, just like that. I'd like to edit the front page, I'd like to re-add the MK GP page, because I've been working on GP Mario Beach from scratch and it's looking like the real thing. I'd like the template to be made, and the front page un-locked.
-SuperMario64DS
You'll find an adequate explanation from Tock just above. He also included his reason when he locked it, check the history page. Regarding the GP page, Vulcanus2 deleted it for a very good reason - there are no finished GP tracks and the page had been idle since May. Add the page back when your track is complete, but not till then. --Jefe 08:32, 20 October 2011 (CEST)
I allready wanted to do something similiar but i dont know how. I wanted to include the News from "All News" as a template but it should only show up like 5-7 News. When anyone know how to do this i would be glad to include it :P
Tock 14:02, 20 October 2011 (CEST)
I have created a news template using Hannos link. Perhaps it can be improved later. For the moment it is the best fast solution.
But I have some notes against automatically inclusion of the news archive:
  • There are rarely non distribution news (like a progress notice), that should not appear in the main page.
  • The length of the news are different. For visual aspects it is better a human decides the number of news.
  • If an update of anything comes out a view days after, I removed the previous news independent of the date. I think, the main page should only held one news for each topic, but never more.

Youtube box

We currenly have 2 youtube box templates:

EmbedVideo received a list of URL arguments that contained malformed data or blank arguments.

Can't we stick to one of then? I don't think anyone likes having two different youtube embed boxes. I think we should only use the youtube-box one, since it looks prettier.
Igorseabra4 17:47, 14 May 2011 (CEST)

I changed the "youtube" template so it has the same layout, and it has support for a description below it. All features of the "youtube-box" are now also in "youtube", the align option doesn't work anymore.

Site description

It might be nice to include a description of the site and what's in it for first time visitors on the main page.

Tock has disabled editing of the main page. Now I have enabled editing for logged in users (hope that Tock will agree). Feel free to edit.
BTW: I ask Tock for admin rights for cleanups and some other can do ask too.

Why there are 2 similar but different track info boxes?

I think we should only have one.

Do you mean other pages: I need an example or link?

Some things are a huge mess

Wimm, for example, sometimes write wrong track names in his distribution lists, people write many names for the same person (such as Cagnouto and Teknik, or Guil who has 4 names).

And we have some stuff such as Warios Lair and Daisys Garden. I didn't knew that there were many Warios and Daisys around. I thought that those tracks were Wario's and Daisy's, but it looks like there are many of then

For my part I know the reasons very well:
I started to collect CT in February 2010. I have different sources in the internet. I Always store names like "ct name RC9 (author) [my comments].szs". All secondary infos (also the wiki track lists) are developed by using this naming (I'm a script king). Because of different sources I found different names and authors of the same tracks and some of them are wrong. In october I found mariokartwii.com and since then I fix the names.
In december 2010 I developed my first public CT distribution. I decided to insert the authors names as part of the track names. Because of spacing problems (in szs and while printing) I have to shorten the names. One way was to remove the trailing numbers and some other pre- and postfixes because they are not needed to identify the authors.
Now we have the this wiki and it will help me and others to have unique names for tracks and authors. See it as slow progress. I will rename my files every time I found a (confirmed) mistake.
Wiimm 18:56, 27 March 2011 (CEST)
Why do I get credits for a course I've never heard of before? It's megaworld.
kHacker35000vr 19:35, 27 March 2011 (CEST)
I got the info from here: <deleted link> Wiimm 19:42, 27 March 2011 (CEST)
Teknik likes getting other people's courses, modifying almost nothing in then (or sometimes even nothing), renaming then and calling then his (hers?). Users and Authors

We should distinguish between authors and wiki users.

  • Authors should have pages in the normal namespace (e.g. page "xyz" for Author "xyz").
  • Wiki users have pages un the user namespace (e.g. page "user:xyz" for user "xyz").
  • Authors that are also wiki user should/may set a redirect from the authors page to the user page.
  • Author links in all articles are made by using [[xyz]] and not using [[user:xyz|xyz]]
  • Author pages should be in category "Author".

Custom track texture hacks

We don't need to have a page for texture hacked custom tracks and a list of texture hacked custom tracks. We can have those as sections inside each track's page. Igorseabra4 18:40, 6 April 2011 (CEST)

I already deleted some stuff of it and I was also thinking about deleting it
Completly pointless to make texturehack pages, they can be posted at the course page in the Filesystem
kHacker35000vr 18:43, 6 April 2011 (CEST)
Well that is a bit too much
I was thinking about letting each texture hack have it's own page, since having a page for each original course page might make those too long
Igorseabra4 18:50, 6 April 2011 (CEST)
Wait, now that you said it, that might be the best choice...
Igorseabra4 18:55, 6 April 2011 (CEST)
It was only one noob who posted texture hacks, I won't allow anybody to add texture hacks to my pages
kHacker35000vr 19:08, 6 April 2011 (CEST)
There was someone posting texture hacks and modified versions of my CTs. I didn't bother removing them because I don't know if they're bugfixes or something.
Guilmon35249vr 02:01, 19 October 2011 (CEST)
My general view for all articles: Collect the info in one page if if the page grows, split the articles. One idea for texture hacks is to uses sub pages like I have done with my latest distribution: "GCN Bowser Castle/Texture Hacks"
On the other hand this wiki is very young. Give all a chance to insert their info. And in 1-2 month when we know mote about all the stuff we can reorganize thew wiki step by step.
Wiimm 20:39, 6 April 2011 (CEST)
So what should we do now? Move the texture hacks, keep then the way they are, keep then the way they are and change sometime later?
Igorseabra4 02:31, 7 April 2011 (CEST)

Rating Extension

From optical aspects I hate the extension: It looks bad. The layout is almost hardcoded and not css based (egg. width is directly in source) and therefor not modifiable. Did anyone vote?
Wiimm 09:17, 29 April 2011 (CEST)

The rating extension looks really bad, no css support planned. And the last update is 3 years ago. The rating extension is dead! (http://dev.openbig.net/release/)
I know! Now I have checked the sources and it seem easy to change it using css instead of hard coded values (means: better layout is possible). Tock must only replace 1 php file. Give me a view days.
Wiimm 16:37, 24 May 2011 (CEST)

New Style

What do you thing about this style: http://wiimm.de/rating
Wiimm 22:54, 24 May 2011 (CEST)

Good layout, I like the red one. But please use another font
kHacker35000vr 08:05, 25 May 2011 (CEST)
I haven't set any font param → the fonts will be the same as wiki standard.
Wiimm 16:24, 25 May 2011 (CEST)
It's really bad code. For editing+testing I must setup a test wiki first. I will do this not before the weekend.
Wiimm 22:13, 25 May 2011 (CEST)
The new rating style is online. Comments are disabled, because they don't work with the current MediaWiki version.
Wiimm 16:59, 1 June 2011 (CEST)

DPL Extension

Tock has removed the dpl extension because I have found a important security warning. It's no problem for this wiki because we have used this extension only on a few pages.

favicon.ico

Would it be possible to set the favicon.ico file to something. Having it blank doesn't look as nice.

New Layout

I have made a recommendation for a new layout on the sandbox page. With this new layout we have more space for the CT news.
Hanno 08:33, 17 October 2011 (CEST)

Thumps up! Tock?
Wiimm 22:28, 17 October 2011 (CEST)
The layout could be more logical. For example, remove the red @track authors box - the same article is listed in the template box. Changing some of the colors could help. Tutorials and templates should be a different color than the More Info and Track Listing boxes.--Jefe 00:39, 18 October 2011 (CEST)
I would also suggest changing to the title of "Custom/Texture Hacked Tracks" To "Track Directory," and moving the Custom Track Distributions and Texture Hack Distributions links to the top of that list, maybe in bold; this is where people should start. "More Info" should be something like "Reference" or "In-Depth Articles"... I can't think of a better name at the moment, but it's more descriptive than "More Info."--Jefe 00:48, 18 October 2011 (CEST)
I agree mostly.
@Jeffe: Edit the sandbox as example.
Hanno 06:28, 18 October 2011 (CEST)
I left it alone because I didn't want to overwrite your changes. But I'll do something with it later today.--Jefe 15:13, 18 October 2011 (CEST)

Unfinished Tracks

Do you think that the list of Unfinished Track should added here? LuigiM 00:07, 19 October 2011 (CEST)

Yep. --Jefe 07:47, 20 October 2011 (CEST)

Poll result

2011-11-14, Question was

Some retro tracks are ported by different persons. Most of the ports/variants have one page per port (like GCN Baby Park). On the other side it is also possible to create one page for all ports (like GCN Luigi Circuit).

2011-11-20, Answers
  • 1 page for each port: 31/85 = 36%
  • All ports on 1 page: 54/85 = 64%

It's a clear voting for combined pages.
Wiimm 16:08, 20 November 2011 (CET)

I personally don't like this idea very much. If I ever make a port, I'd like it to be it's own page. There's truly no reason for this to happen, as it is not needed. The GCN Page that shows all ported/non-ported tracks is okay. Plus, any random person could vote on the poll.

SuperMario64DS, 19:49, 20 November 2011 (CET)

I dont like the idea too. Some Ports with much informations should have their own Page but Ports with only the CT info box should be in one Page.
Tock 20:11, 20 November 2011 (CET)
All ports should be on own page in my opinion, not with too much info (only CT info box and video), and more info on a sub-page for each author.
Vulcanus2 20:33, 20 November 2011 (CET)
With this I mean a general page for the ported track like on GCN LC, without the CT distro info and poll, and than with the "by XXX" as link to a sub-page with more info (the author can fill that in). So this means we have actually both :P
Vulcanus2 21:11, 20 November 2011 (CET)
I prefer two separate pages with a disambiguation page listing each version. If anything to prevent edit wars or inadvertent deletion of info on the other track. Each port is different, and usually a lot of work is put into the port, so I think each should have its own page. --Jefe 20:36, 20 November 2011 (CET)

Mario Kart 7

Would it be possible to make custom tracks from mario kart 7? --Funkykong975 18:50, 4 January 2012 (CET)

As soon as a method to rip the models is found, yes. --Jefe 18:54, 4 January 2012 (CET)

List Of Custom Tracks Ported From Mario Kart 7?

Mario Kart 7 for Nintendo 3DS was just released in Japan on this date, and will be the 2nd for Europe, the 3rd for Australia, and the four for North America. I've heard both rumours of a Nintendo 3DS Emulator for Computers, and 3DS ROM decoders. With these, it could be possible to rip models from these game depending of the Model format it uses, and if this emulator will work with 3D Ripper DX. So, should we create a "List Of Custom Track Ported From Mario Kart 7"? Some courses that requires the use of a Hanglider can use a cannon, or a trick can be done. And then unerwater areas can simply have no collision when the water is touched, allowing you to pass through. And then courses that have only one lap, can have extended finish lines so you can go through it without multiple laps. If so, then the courses should be called, for example "3DS Mario Circuit" or "3DS Rainbow Road", instead of "7 Mario Circuit" or "7 Rainbow Road". Should the page be created?

-SuperMario64DS, 21:48, 1 December 2011 (CET)

No not yet, the emulators really don't exist yet, the available 3ds roms are very different or are just damaged in the process. Please wait a few months ;)
kHacker35000vr 21:51, 1 December 2011 (CET)
Wait until someone makes a MK7 course, then we can add a page for it.
--Guilmon35249vr 22:01, 1 December 2011 (CET)
Not needed until there are some tracks ported. There was the same exact discussion with you on the List of Tracks from Mario Kart Arcade GP, and we still don't have tracks from that game either.--Jefe 22:09, 1 December 2011 (CET)
Agree Guilmon & Jefe. And if the list with at least one track is available, one of the Mods will add a link to the main page.
Wiimm 22:12, 1 December 2011 (CET)

There is a List of Retro Tracks from Mario Kart 7. A mod should add it to the Track Directory on the main page. --Buschkling 05:31, 8 August 2012 (UTC)

New Templates

I set up some new templates a while back. The Template:Misc-Info is an all-purpose replacement for Template:Custom-Track-Info to be used on custom tracks, character hacks and other downloads. It removes the Video field (videos should be in the media section of a page) adds a second DL field for a primary mirror, and fields for Release Date and Editors Used. The new template can be phased in gradually; unlike editing the Custom-Track template this breaks nothing. I've been using the new template for a while, you can see it on my track pages. If no one has any objections, I will update Help:Custom_Track and Template:Custom-Track to include the new format.

I also set up Template:Character-Hack and Help:Character_Hack. The help page should be linked on the main page in the Track Authors: Use these formats box (The title should probably be Adding a New Download? Use These Formats now.) I will also set up a template for fonts Template:Custom-Font which will need to be added as well.--Jefe 18:49, 2 December 2011 (CET)

Playing Custom Tracks

I have completed modeling for my track, but i can't play it. how do i play my track on CTGP Revolution?

--User:Pokemongeof\Pokemongeof 10:57, 21 December 2011 (CET)

About videos for tracks

I thing we should limit the videos for a track. There are some tracks with up to 5 vidoes, that's definitely to much.

Each major version of a track may have 1 or 2 videos
  1. The first video shall show the track including camera setups. It can be done via offline versus or time trial or a mix of both ( like my video on Unnamed Valley (Scye)). Some simple video comments are good for this kind of video.
  2. A second video is allowed if it shows an online race with at least 6 players. The only reason for this kind of video is to animate others to play online. In my opinion this is the main goal of custom tracks: To have online fun with other players.

All video should have a normed titles without "made by", e.g. "Track Presentation" and "Playing Online"
Wiimm 21:20, 26 December 2011 (CET)

I have to agree with this. And requesting changes to them should be done on the talk pages, so that people can deside if the new video is better than the old one (although if the track's updated, then the newer one should replace the older video.) - Ah2190, the Master of Nitrous, (Talk page) posted at 00:10, 27 December 2011 (CET)
I agree Wiimm and Ah2190. But I think that videos who shows bugs must also allowed as third video until the bug is fixed. And if there are more videos, they can be added to a special video page "Track Name/Videos". This makes the main article clean and gives a chance for more videos.
Hanno 09:28, 27 December 2011 (CET)
That's a good point, Hanno. Bugs should be highlighted as known (through the media of video) so that others that find the bug know that it's been found beforehand. Plus, having a video page for tracks with loads of videos is a good idea - that way, submissions for videos can be made there, and that talk page (for example, "Talk:Track Name/Videos") should have the discussion on which two (or three) videos should be included on the main page. - Ah2190, the Master of Nitrous, (Talk page) posted at 17:34, 27 December 2011 (CET)
My Recommendations
  • The primary video should be made in VS, Grand Prix or Online mode. It should be "live play" or a replay of GP mode to show replay cameras. It should feature the most recent major revision of the level.
  • Secondary videos are permissible but should show a different play mode or an older major revision of the level.
  • If the track is a port or remake, a video of the original version is permissible.
  • Time Trials should not be used for the primary video or replay video. The opening camera pans, item box placement and enemy kart behavior are all important aspects of a level and do not show up in Time Trials.
  • Pages shouldn't be updated just to add BKTs (Best Known Times) and WRs (World Record) videos.
  • No more than 3 embedded videos on any custom track page. Tutorials and Distributions are exceptions.
  • Videos of glitches and additional videos should be linked to like this rather than embedded on the page. Glitch videos should be added to a section of the page describing the glitch, like this.
  • The "Track Name/Videos" option can be used, but really should be used for distributions only. Videos of all the tracks in a distribution should link to a playlist on the main page or use plain links to each video rather than embedding 20+ videos on a page.
  • The youtube-box template ( {{youtube-box|blue left|YoutubeID|Title}} ) should be used instead of the youtube template. The titles look better in youtube-box.
  • Video titles should be kept simple. v1.0 (Online Play), v1.0 (Replay Cameras), etc. The title should not include the name of the video author, date recorded, etc.

--Jefe 18:22, 28 December 2011 (CET)

I follow Jefes recommendations and we should write concrete rules! (perhaps not so long so that all player read them).
@Tock: What do you think?
Wiimm 23:40, 7 January 2012 (CET)
I think it would be best if the rules simply stated: No more than 3 videos on a CT page. Only 1 video on Character and Texture Hack pages. (See the Style page for more info.) The specific recommendations as written here could go on a style page that would cover formatting in general. The rules could link to the style page and so would the "Track Authors: Use these formats" box on the front page. (Which still needs to be updated to include the newest templates for character hacks and texture hacks. I don't have the ability to edit the front page.)--Jefe 18:24, 8 January 2012 (CET)

New poll template?

Would it be possible to add a poll template like this to the site: http://www.mariowiki.com/Template:Poll ? We could have polls like "Do you want the layout to be XXX or XXX?" or things like "Which Rainbow Road Music should this course use?: SNES Rainbow Road, N64 Rainbow Road, GBA Rainbow Road..." or even "What needs to be improved on this course?: A: New Textures, B: KMP Improving C: Better Model..." Like that. It could be useful, rather than using the rating template for polls. Can we? -- SuperMario64DS, 22:01, 2 January 2012 (CET)

You know there is a way to see which mods that have already seen this post, right? Please answer. There is no reason not to, I have cookies. http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:PollDaddy . That's the one they seem to use. All you have to do is to use some "Poll Daddy" poll creator, and it will give you an ID. And then on your page you add the code, and replace "12345" with your Poll ID. -- SuperMario64DS, 16:18, 3 January 2012 (CET)
Ummm, so can this extension be added? I'd like to use it for a few things, it add the ability to add Polls generated with a site called www.polldaddy.com to this site. Can it??? I understand only a few people are permitted to do so. -- SuperMario64DS, 20:05, 4 January 2012 (CET)
Uhhg, nevermind. Why must we pay for everything these days? Poll Daddy costs too. 0.0 Why not try this one? http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Poll . I Will still wait for a reply... -- SuperMario64DS, 20:12, 4 January 2012 (CET)
Only Tock can install extensions. Wiimm 23:36, 10 January 2012 (CET)

Well I was kind of hoping for him to reply as well... Unless there is a price, there's no reason not to have Polls/HTML Extensions Enabled -- SuperMario64DS, 00:25, 11 January 2012 (CET)

HTML Extension

Well, since my Poll Idea went ignored, could we add an HTML Extension Instead? Ther are multiple ways to conduct polls with HTML and CSS, could both be added? Pages could also be made custom, like with Custom Backgrounds or fonts, and I know HTML and CSS too. There are multiple extensions for this, so any could be choosen if this is added. -- SuperMario64DS, 19:59, 10 January 2012 (CET)

SOPA

Are you guys going to protect this website from SOPA?!?!? Check it out they are messing with google, wikipedia, and many others. What are you going to do? -Pokemongeof

They won't know about us yet. We don't have much time, this is a Serious Issue, SMG2.5 has been getting threatening things already, and we've committed no Piracy. Tock, this is serious. They've started shutting down Sites that distribute Files from Games/Pirated Software/ECT. Places like Sonic Retro are also at risk, and we are too. They may think our own custom (Non-pirated) SZS files are stolen from the game, and we're done for. Tock, is there any way to back up the Wiki??? WEBSITES are shutting down and we're at risk here. -- SuperMario64DS, 18:40, 18 January 2012 (CET)
This wiki is a german site, so SOPA will only affect visitors from the USA, it's not that they can take a site down from another country, only block it in the USA.
Vulcanus2 21:01, 18 January 2012 (CET)
Many other sites are down at the moment because they WANT to protest against SOPA. SOPA is NO law at the moment and i guess never will be because the USA needs the money from Google and Wikipedia. And like Vulcanus said this is a german Website which means they can only block US people from this wiki with a DNS Changer.
Tock 21:05, 18 January 2012 (CET)
The problem is, SOPA and PIPA can cause webhosters to be responsible for all content they host, not just the people who post it. So webhosters would try and stop them from being liable by taking down the content that may fall fowl of SOPA and/or PIPA. Plus, if they get passed, then who knows what other countries will jump onto the bandwagon and push through their own versions? - Ah2190, the Master of Nitrous, (Talk page) posted at 21:36, 18 January 2012 (CET)
Well why not try to ge rid of anything that may make them want to block this site from US Visitors? That would mean that I (And many others) can no longer visit the Wiiki if the law is passed. Lots of us come from the US, although I wish now that I lived back in the UK Again. We can just hope that this stupid bill is not passed, or that this site won't be seen as a threat. Eh, either way, I'll be moving to Russia next year. Hopefully there will be no bill, and this site will not be classified as a threat. It's just soooo stupid... This is truly starting to become the worst place that I have ever lived in. -- SuperMario64DS, 23:11, 18 January 2012 (CET)

  1. select a domain (must be surfable)
  2. extract the media wiki source on the server
  3. call the domain and follow the instructions
  4. at the end the system offer you a LocalSettings.php. Download it and copy it to the wiki directory.

More than 32 tracks in MKWii

Is it possible to hack MKWii ISO to have more than 32 tracks in total? Unsigned comment by User:Torgal 2012 May 18

Yes. CTGP-Revolution is a collection of more than 100 tracks, which can be converted to ISO. Jefe 01:07, 19 May 2012 (UTC)
Thank you. Are all these tracks playable offline, in vs race? Unsigned comment by User:Torgal 2012 May 19
Yes.--Funkykong975 10:09, 19 May 2012 (UTC)

I converted CTGP-Revolution in ISO and game work fine. Excelent work, guys!! Now I have another problem: I play often MKWii offline with my friends and we play with our own rules with help of Ocarina codes (speedy shells, always mini turbo, no terain effects etc). What I need to do to input Ocarina codes in CTGP-Revolution? I tried to change ISO name with WIIISORenamer from CTGP-Revolution to MarioKartWii with hope to use old codes from regular game but then CTGP-Revolution won't start. Any help, please? Unsigned comment by User:Torgal 2012 May 19

1. Please sign your comments. The signature button exists for a reason.
2. Unfortunately, CTGP-R blocks the use of codes to prevent hacking online. I think there might be Custom Track Distributions that allow it. I would recommend Wiimms Distributions because they release regularly with new custom tracks but I can't say for sure if they block codes too. Go ahead and test one. --Torran 05:32, 20 May 2012 (UTC)
1. I am sorry about signature. I have no much experience about such way of comunication.
2. Thank you, but I already know about distributions of that kind. Problem with them is that all of these custom tracks had only 32 tracks in total and that is not interesting for me. Can anyone, at least, write here about process of extend ordinary MKWii game on more than 32 tracks if it is not too complicated? I'd imagine so, editing kart and bike stats would surely break online compatibility and/or get your Wii flagged/banned for hacking. It would be interesting if custom characters could get their own balanced stats. Jefe 01:07, 19 May 2012 (UTC)

Mediafire and copyright claims

As of today, Mediafire has been removing lots of custom content related to MKWii (and that seems to be the only Wii game affected). I've had a texture hack and a model hack removed, and plenty of custom tracks have vanished as well. I suggest trying a different site, maybe your own webserver if possible.

The group involved is Kapow Software.es (who claim to be related to Nintendo, but their own site doesn't list Nintendo as a partner, but instead lists Microsoft).
--Digital Monster, Guilmon35249vr 22:20, 15 October 2012 (UTC)

Volcanic Skyway 4 was also removed from Mediafire by the same company due to a copyright claim, and my account was immediately suspended. As such I am revoking the release of Volcanic Skyway 4 entirely, until I can use a patching system or include it in the next version of CTGP-R. I will not continue to upload to any more websites as I do not want to risk being sued or having my YouTube account suspended. If anybody would like to mirror the download, you may do so at your OWN risk. --BigOto 04:11, 20 October 2012 (UTC)
I'm willing to mirror any download needed, however I must point a few things out:
  • YouTube and MediaFire are not affiliated in any way (As far an action on one site effecting the other)
  • Many others have both uploaded these hacks & tied them to their YouTube accounts theoretically, and have not received suspension from YouTube.
  • The same company, "Kapow Software", was hired to delete all content/modifications (With the addition of un-official expansions) from of the game, The Sims 2. All YouTube videos of such modifications still exist, while the files are now hosted elsewhere.
  • Along with the list of deleted tracks, were deleted ISOs and Roms of both Mario Kart 7 & Mario Kart Wii. It should atleast be considered that their filter perhaps mistook Custom Tracks or in game data, seeing that dozens of downloads are still up like these: DS Waluigi Pinball, FZMV Cloud Carpet, 3DS Piranha Plant Slide, Codename: BIGBOX, Magma Island (And the list goes on)
  • BigOto's MediaFire account was suspended completely suspended, likewise most others who had multiple deleted files. The reason: The filter most like caught a certain file and thought it was an ISO. After then examining the the the account it found multiple files which shared similar data, which a stupid filter would flag as bits of the ISO thus leading to suspension.
  • Certain custom tracks were taken down for allegedly being a direct file from the game itself, which only brings the filter further to the conclusion that it had made mistake. Most likely the filer had searched for a long string of data. For example, it may have searched for the data from Mario Circuit. Since this filter was probably programmed to think that the ISO or files may have been split up, it would search for all objects in Mario Cicuit, which flagged the track Volcanic Skyway V4 for containing the objects "Castleballoon > Itembox > Castletree".
  • Wouldn't you think think that out of all tracks, Magma Island would have been deleted? Not only is it literally named "volcano_course.szs", but it is un compressed in a zip archive, and is simply Grumble Volcano with a re arranged KMP! (And new model, of course)
  • The email anyone received that they believe was "Directly from Nintendo" was not. Examine closer, [email protected], not [email protected] (Although some people have claimed to receive some from "@NOA", which further strengthens the idea of a confused partnership). Just look, the system and/or the person who sent that email obviously doesn't understand how to edit models in BrawlBox, much less even play a custom track. Their filter flagged a track as a piece of the game, send email, done.
  • It is improbable that they directly searched any YouTube videos or the Wiki itself. All they would have had to do here is search "MediaFire" and suspend all.
  • Lastly, we do not know that Nintendo is directly involved. With MegaUpload's demise, most file sharing Websites have either shut down public sharing or have taken extra precautions to not go the same way. Ever considered that they perhaps have a list of un wanted files so they then contacted Nintendo to get their support? I hightly doubt only Mario kart was effected, as they most likely emailed you about the deleted files within the category your violation was in.
With the WiiU coming up, 1000s of other hacking communities existing, and millions of dollars to be made, why would Nintendo even give a care about us? Just on small hacking community in the large pool of Brawl-Zelda-Galaxy-64-DS hackers? No. I'm pretty sure that if Nintendo even cared we would have heard from them a lot sooner, and the CTWW would have been disabled by them not allowing external regional races. I recall an overreaction by me when the whole SOPA thing was pending, and this is no less. Obliviously FBI agents aren't going to pull up to your front door and take you away to prison for piracy. Itembox.brres is impossible to use really with a KCL, Model, & KMP, with the addition of a copy of Mario Kart Wii and a Wii. So what on earth could somebody use Itembox.brres without a Wii? "OOh, Distribute over the internet and make millions of dollars!" (No). Obviously we have not received any auto updates, patches, or anything else to prevent us from what we're doing now. Nintendo has moved on from the Wii, seeing that they're letting the hacking scene grow even larger and now that Wiis are no longer manufactured, with the addition of the 3DS, WiiU, and other possible future consoles. No other File sharing website has been effected, no other websites have been harmed. In comparison to murder or theft, distributing Itembox.brres or other related files within an archive full of your own creations that require the purchase of Nintendo products to operate legally is relatively small. It is indeed a law, but nothing Nintendo seems to care about anything that could potentially harm Nintendo because you can't re construct a whole ISO from several custom tracks. And if one choose to use these files with an illegal copy of Mario Kart Wii, then that's where the threatening problem is, --SuperMario64DS 19:32, 20 October 2012 (UTC)

DarkyBenji's Pages

Why some people are removed my table from a lot of darkybenji pages? In the table you can see a lot of information! Darky always put some information in the description of his video maybe this:

Track edited : Toad factory

Texture from : Super mario galaxy 2

Music : Super mario galaxy 2 - Fleet Glide galaxy

Download : http://darky.gallery.xooit.fr/t945-Fl...

So it was good, because the people are see why he had this idea for the track Maybe Fleet Glide Galaxy (Toad's Factory Texture) He had the idea from super mario galaxy 2 and the Super mario galaxy 2 - Fleet Glide galaxy-Music is perfect for the track! --Horsti12 (talk) 09:22, 23 June 2013 (UTC)

It's no problem that you put all Darky's texture hacks here, but that's all he does, creating texture hacks. All extra information you add has nothing to do with the texture hacks itself.
kHacker35000vr (talk) 09:42, 23 June 2013 (UTC)
You can just put "This is a texture hack based on ______." Not a table because people roll their eyes when they see "Texture from: DarkyBenji Imagination".
And most Texture hacks are made up, so if it isn't based on anything don't put "DarkyBenji Imagination".
--FunkyDude15 (talk) 14:23, 23 June 2013 (UTC)
I posted a reply to your post on my user talk page, but I made that without checking to see if a BRSTM was actually included with these texture hacks -- on the ones I just checked they weren't. If there is no music file included, then why mention music at all? You seem to be just copying the music credits from the youtube videos. That is beyond pointless. As I said before, if you add to a page, it should be a description of the track or information about its development. It should be written coherently, and conform to the style used on this wiki. If your posts do not follow those guidelines -- and your posts didn't -- they will be removed. If you continue adding these nonsense tables to pages, it will lead to a ban.--Jefe (talk) 01:47, 24 June 2013 (UTC)

The main reason that we ask people who make YouTube videos to link to the wiki is so people download the most current version of the track; linking to a specific revision defeats this purpose. The real question is why you would want to host copies of wiki pages on your site. --Jefe (talk) 20:33, 28 July 2013 (UTC)

'user:name' contra 'name' (and the redirections)

I plan to create some pages to prainse some gurus of the scene (Chadderz, MrBean, Wiimm, BigOt2 for example). So I need the page 'Chadders' separated from 'user:chadders'. And I think, there is a logical difference about both paghes.

  • 'user:Name' is a self description of a the wiki user 'Name'.
  • 'Name' is an encyclopedia page about the scene person 'Name' written in third person.

I think, it is generally a failure to redirect 'Name' to 'user:Name'

Hanno (talk) 21:09, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

I don't really see the point. The Name pages were created for easy access to the User pages (unless they don't have an account here), and nearly everyone creates User pages. Some are really short, but maybe they already put up all the information they want to.
-- Have a nice day, from ZillaSpaz 00:06, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
I don't think this would be particularly useful either. It is up to these users how much information they wish to list about themselves. Anything we add needs to be objective, such as a listing of their works on their user link template. If they don't have one, or if it isn't up to date, other wiki users normally will update the template.
That's really the extent of factual data we should be adding for these users, aside from maybe a link to the user's home page, MKWii forum profile, or youtube, if they have one. Pretty much anything else you would want to say about them would be subjective (therefore not belonging on the wiki), redundant (if it also appears in the user link template), or worse, a potential invasion of the user's privacy. --Jefe (talk) 12:36, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
Why not creating a page "History" or "Milestones" with important dates and events? -- Wiimm (talk) 09:52, 31 August 2013 (UTC)
Ok. Now I think about a new page "History of Custom Track Creation", perhaps with redirects from "History" and "Milestones". And there we try to collect milestones of ct creation. I think about a mix of software, epic tracks, knowledge.

News and non working tracks

How should we handle non working tracks (black screen only)?
I ask, because Hanno removed Lava Rampage and Torran inserted the news again. In my opinion the news are generally only for working tracks/chars/fonts/etc in beta quality or above.

Non working tracks should be removed from the News in my opinion. That being said, it seems I accidentally re-added Lava Rampage during that edit. Whoops! :p --Torran (talk) 04:02, 3 September 2013 (UTC)

I think it may be because of "Sunshine Way" rather than "Sunshineway". If he really quit because of that then that would be a stupid move.... And it's on the main page talk because I couldn't think of anywhere else to put it. I thought people may be interested. And I don't think he wants his content removed. That's his choice. --From FunkyDude (talk) 02:13, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
That is really silly. Compound constructions of 3 or more words are grammatically correct in German, but they are not correct in English. Different languages, different rules. He just doesn't understand English well enough to understand that writing it "Sunshineway" looks really foolish to native speakers, the sort of mistake a small child would make. All we have done here is make the title grammatically correct, I hope he understands that. --Jefe (talk) 03:04, 13 September 2013 (UTC)

I have changed the side bar a little bit. I want to insert the central pages of this Wiiki into the first box. And I'm not sure about the order of the boxes. So please tell me:

  • What are the central pages of this Wiiki?
  • Do we need more/less boxes?
  • Which box order do you prefer?
  • What about the texts? (The headlines are set as lower case letters automatically (in some styles?))

New Rules?

I think the Wiiki should make a new Rule which is like this "The CT Creator can edit his own page as muc has he wants and can put his video on it. It doesnt matter qhich quality it is, but when thers a video with a better quality they can put it under the owner's video, and the owner can decide rather he wants the video or not" ---FloMaster35000vr (talk) 20:40, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

I disagree. This wiki is like almost all other wikis: It is an encyclopaedia, but with a special theme (MKWii custom) ⇒ Each article should give the best information. And this includes best videos and realistic videos (dolphin is only a software, which emulates something similar like a Wii).
A track author will not become the owner of the article, because he writes the first steps of it. The community is the owner!
However, a track author has generally more right for a article about its product (not only tracks), but there is no reason against replacing videos/pictures/words by better videos/pictures/words to improve the article quality.
Wiimm (talk) 21:53, 3 November 2013 (UTC)
Sorry , but I tend to agree (Typos aside). Not sure how often/when something like the case with Magnetic City has occurred, but the track owner should have 'ownership', and should be able to chose video he/she likes for their page. Clearly ‎XBlue98 did not want Torran's video on their page, and that decision should be respected, quality aside (To a certain degree). I believe it went too far with this comment by Torran: " Unfortunately, the creator cannot determine which videos can be on his/her page. ". I see it as an utterly useless restriction and in the least appears to have been put in place in favor of Torran's YouTube account. Knowing Torran, I can clearly see that this is not the case, but not everyone will see it that way. Rule #8 in video etiquette doesn't make much sense either. While Dolphin may not display smaller details such as Mipmaps (In addition to omitting visual errors, which a secondary video may cite), sometimes it's simply the best quality a track creator can provide. Look at it from this point too: They don't want to advertise somebody else's YouTube necessarily. And with that, maybe they want their friend's video up instead of yours ('You' meaning anybody). In the end, the track creator should be granted jurisdiction over the content on their page, if they want to advertise their track with a video filmed on a digital camera at 5 FPS, then let them do so. What's stopping Moderators from later on deciding you're no longer allowed to use the word 'unique' on a track page, because a moderator disagrees and says it's vaguely similar to another? If it is truly coming to a point where we cannot decide what goes on our pages, then I'll quit. --SuperMario64DS (talk) 22:02, 3 November 2013 (UTC)
Restrictions on Dolphin should be obvious enough. Graphical effects, game freezing, and slowdown effect are not reproduced by Dolphin. Therefore it is not an accurate method of recording videos. The strictness of the rule has been lessened so that it won't apply for single videos, but I believe that the restriction should stay. As for "page ownership", I'm willing to respect the creator of the page, to a certain extent. Removing videos from a page because: a) You wish to hold a monopoly on the page, b) You wish to gain suscribers, views, or ad revenue from the page, are not acceptable reasons. The Wiiki and its contents exist for the community, not for the individual. --Torran (talk) 22:20, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

Here's my take on it. I think there is a place for the author's chosen video in most cases. The author of the track sometimes has certain ways they wish to present their level, show off certain things they did, like new objects, nice camera work, etc. Track pages are allowed a maximum of three embedded videos, and as long the author's video shows a unique game mode, version or perspective, it should be listed as one of the three videos. If the author's video doesn't show anything unique, or violates the other guidelines, or is just very poor quality, other videos should have priority. In that case, the author should be allowed to add a different one that fits within the guidelines.

Also, I strongly disagree with the new rule that says videos must not be emulated. While I agree that a video capture from an actual Wii or Wii U is preferable, it is just barely so. Emulated videos are often higher quality than video captures and rendering errors are usually pretty minor.

I think we should consider videos in this order:

  • Shows a unique version or mode (online play, vs bots, split screen w/bots, and replay cameras are all good, time trials are not.)
  • Does not contain distracting or offensive intros, audio, mods or hacks. "Vanilla" MKWii with game audio is better to show of the features of the level/character/etc. but not essential.
  • Shows at least a full lap, round or all relevant features.
  • Is at least decent quality (360p).
  • Is direct video capture, not emulation or a video of a tv or a monitor.

If there is only one or two videos listed, there is room for both an emulated and non-emulated video. --Jefe (talk) 08:20, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

I strongly disagree with your take on emulation. The fact that some creators only test their tracks on Dolphin, find nothing wrong and release it, only for it to not work on a real Wii, strongly suggests to me that this privilege is not worth having. Not to mention that it effectively allows the creator of the video to hide any of the more pressing issues of tracks such as freezes and slowdowns, videos are meant to demonstrate the track, as well as demonstrate any flaws that it may have. In that regard, I have no other issues with what you have proposed. --Torran (talk) 12:12, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
You have a valid point about bugs and slowdown, I didn't consider those in my post. Track creators should always test their tracks on a real Wii, whether or not they have the means to record video that way. In those cases it is a good reason for someone else to post a Wii video and append a bug report to the page. Most bugs of that nature are quickly discovered by the community, and someone typically posts a bug video or a notice that the track does not work on a real system. So taking this into account I'd change the guidelines to this:
  1. No more than 3 embedded videos on any page. Tutorials and Distributions are exceptions.
  2. Custom Track Videos should show Online Play, VS or Grand Prix mode. Do not use Time Trials mode, as it does not show item boxes or buggy item or CPU routes.
  3. Videos should shows at least one full lap, round or all relevant features.
  4. Videos should be of at least decent quality (360p). Direct video capture from a Wii is preferred, especially for the primary video.
  5. Primary video should not hide major flaws, including issues on real Wii systems.
  6. Secondary videos should show a different play mode or an older major revision of the level.
  7. Videos should not contain distracting or offensive intros, text or audio, or excessive modifications or hacks. "Vanilla" MKWii with game audio is better to show demonstrate the features of the level/character/etc. but not essential.
  8. Ports and remakes can include a video of the original version of the level. Videos of subsequent ports to other games can be included as well.
  9. The video title must not praise the author of the video. (Video by VideoGloryGuy) Instead the title must describe briefly what will be shown in the video. (V1 or V1: Replay Cameras etc.)
  • For special videos, use one of the following keywords:
    • bug for bugs and glitches.
    • tutorial for tutorials.
    • original for videos of the original versions of ported and remade tracks.
  1. Embedded videos should link to the track's Wiiki page instead of a direct download to the file. This is to ensure that people downloading the track will get the most current version of the track instead of an old version.
These are guidelines, remember, not hard-and-fast rules. Even in the scenarios you described, the emulated video by the author should be bumped down to the second or third slot if available, not necessarily removed. --Jefe (talk) 14:27, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
The rule against the emulated videos was made due to the amount of people hiding the "Harry Potter effect" with Dolphin. Dolphin also can hide/create mistakes in the Shader part of the MDL0 and in the worst case scenario the track can freeze on the Wii but not on Dolphin (Baoulettes even managed to make a Track freeze in Dolphin but not on the Wii). A temporary Dolphin Video is allowed but this rule was also made to "force" people to test their Tracks on a regular Wii before they release it.
Of course I agree that Torran "overreacted" about the 25 fps Video. 25/29,97/30 fps, 4:3/16:9 and 360p/480p/HD is totally fine.
Tock (talk) 16:07, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
Actually, I overreacted on the potato video. :p SkyGrdnLoL was the 25 fps video, and I actually didn't find out that Crile = Demonizer until after I replaced the video. --Torran (talk) 16:11, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
My proposed revisions to the guidelines cover people hiding the "Harrry Potter Effect" and shader issues too. You can't force people to test on a Wii, any more than you can force people to not make MSPaint or TWD98 tribute tracks. ;) --Jefe (talk) 16:36, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
I like Jefes rule list, but would add: Dolphin videos are generally allowed, but only if a similar video made on a real Wii will show the same. If a Dolphin video hide bugs, freezes or other things, it can be deleted by the moderators without comment.
Wiimm (talk) 16:47, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
Wow, i'm surprised, that my suggestion for the rule caused such a conversation :o But i want to give my part too so... Maybe if the Creator made a bad Quality Video of his CT/Texture Hack and put it on the Wiiki Page you should may ask him on the Talk page if you can add his Video which maybe shows another Game Mode or replace the existing Video, because your Video has the better Quality. FloMaster35000vr (talk) 17:28, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
On a public wiki, there is no reason to ask anyone for permission to improve the page quality of s public page. -- Wiimm (talk) 06:41, 5 November 2013 (UTC)
I understand all positions. The most important argument is: This a public Wiki and no one gains the ownership of an article.
This main rule and the ideology to create very good pages implies, that ...
  • ... no one must ask the creator for permission.
  • ... dolphin videos are allowed but can replaced by other ones.
  • ... dolphin videos, that disguise negative aspects of the track, must rapidly replaced by better videos.
And so, Jefes list is more an explanation what free wiki and good pages mean.
Hanno (talk) 11:52, 5 November 2013 (UTC)
@Hanno: To clarify: We should respect the author's choice of video as long as it doesn't go against the other guidelines. Otherwise, that is a good summation.
@Wiimm: Your addition states it more explicitly. We should be able to rephrase the policy so it is more concise. --Jefe (talk) 20:00, 5 November 2013 (UTC)

I'll point you to a new template: Template:tab-line-H1 and its usage in Template:Custom-Track-Info ('date' entry).

It's only an example to show a new and easy method to hide table lines without content. If needed, other templates like tab-line-H2 or without header column tab-line-2 can be created. Now let us discuss and/or modify the other info templates.

Votes

On <deleted link> I have read, that there were bad votes made by trolls. After a check I can confirm, that there were many worst votes from users, that are not logged in. Because of that, I have removed all votes of such anonym users. For the future I plan to edit the voting script to allow only votes made by logged-in users. At the moment it's easier to clean the db frequently.

Wiimm (talk) 13:02, 8 December 2013 (UTC)

Some more infos for clearness:
I have analysed the votes for some pages. And I have seen, that different tracks have either many "1" votes or many "10" votes made by not logged-in users. Both are bad. So I decided to remove anonymous votes.
KHacker35000vr wrote as comment: "You can say a lot about me removing that voting box, but now the anonymous users are gone the trollers have an even bigger percentage."
Because of this I use this as example: I have analysed the votes for Molten Mountainway.
  • 37 persons voted, 26 were anonymous votes.
  • Only counting the "10" votes: 17 total, 14 anonymous.
  • Logged-in users voted: 5*1, 3*7, 3*10 (5.1 average)
  • Anonymous users voted: 3*1, 1*2, 2*5, 5*8, 1*9, 14*10 (7.8 average)
  • Both groups: 8*1, 1*2, 2*5, 3*7, 5*8, 1*9, 17*10 (7.2 average)
Obviously the rating was pushed by anonymous votes.
After a fast review of the vote database I have seen, that anonymous users manipulate the ratings in both directions. And so I have made a second statistic, an analysis of all votes:
  • Logged-in users voted 4271 total — 30% "1" and 36% "10" (66% extreme values)
  • Anonymous users voted 21930 total — 17% "1" and 45% "10" (61% extreme values)
The high percent for the extreme votes shows 2 things:
  • Overall the voting system is only used in an abused way. Normally, extreme values are rarely.
  • Anonymous voting is generally used to push the rating upwards.
And this analysis confirm my feeling, that the voting system is only a battle field and will not give a fair rating for interested people.
However, personally I dislike this kinds of voting. And so I never vote and never watch the ratings — it's total irrelevant for me. So the goal was not to increase or decrease any rating. My goal is that the ratings reflect the reality in a better way.
Wiimm (talk) 12:20, 9 December 2013 (UTC)
Another problem of the votes is, that updates may improve a track significant. When this happens, the votes should be reset. At the moment we have a mixed evaluation of the old an new track versions.
Wiimm (talk) 12:37, 9 December 2013 (UTC)
There is a voting glitch.
Anyone can vote one time in one track, but if he/she vote again in the track in other day,the vote will be counted and becoming an infinite voting glitch.
I´m warning because I know this may help you to avoid those kind of votes in the wiki.
Rukasudo90 22:40 10 December 2013 (GMT)
Do you mean as logged-in user or as anonymous? If second, see below.
If first: You can vote gain, but you override only you last vote. If not, give me an example and I check the database.
Wiimm (talk) 22:06, 19 December 2013 (UTC)
I prefer to remove the voting section on my pages. I feel that if people would like to give criticism or thumbs or down, they should do so on the talk page of the course.
I think, that if not already, it should be only for registered members, that they can actually vote. --Shadow (talk) 20:56, 19 December 2013 (UTC)
At the moment anonymous votes are possible, but they are cleared once a day.
Wiimm (talk) 22:06, 19 December 2013 (UTC)
Let me explain what you asked me,Logged users can vote only one time and they can't vote again in the same track. The unlogged ones can vote in the track and if they vote in the same track in other day,the vote may valid and count..
(Note:if the person has more the 1 computer,he/she will be able to vote more than 1 time per day.
Ex:3 computers=3 votes in the same track per day.)
Rukasudo90 11:50, 04 January 2014 (GMT)
Again: Anonymous (= not logged in) votes are cleared/removed once a day. -- Wiimm (talk) 14:00, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

List of Blacklisted IPs

Hello! My name is Jackie, and I've come here seeking a favor. I've recently started my own Wiki (No worries - Not related to this place at all), and I'd like to know if the admin would /possibly/ be willing to share the list of banned Spam bots? I've followed this Wiki quite a bit the past few years (Attempted custom content myself - Ala Daisy Cruiser), and I recall around it's creation, and through the course of it's existence, Spam bots have come and gone, eventually disappearing all together. If I recall correctly, 'Wiimm' at one point found a list of IPs to watch for, and mass banned them as a form of prevention. I'd like to do the same, as seeing that you have a list ready, would you be willing to share that with me? Thank-you!--Jackie (talk) 20:09, 15 January 2014 (UTC)

Look this up: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:ConfirmEdit we use QuestyCaptcha for the registration process which has proven to be very affective. Of course you should also disable not logged in users to edit your wiki. Requiring people to confirm their email addresses also is a great way to add more security. Two month ago we had a Spam problem again because the learned the answers of the questions (after around one year) so Wiimm changed the questions.
