Track Classifications

I assume the "Nitro" classification was made up to mean "new" or "original" CT design? I understand the potential confusion caused by using the terms "new" or "original", since they have multiple meanings, but "Nitro" is just as confusing and makes even less sense. It could just as well refer to "boost" tracks or DS ports. Likewise appending CT to everything isn't necessary, these are all custom tracks, after all. Ported tracks are understood to be a type of CT. We have a list of custom tracks and various lists of ports; I don't see how using those commonly understood terms would be any worse semantically than making up new ones. --Jefe 13:39, 27 November 2011 (CET)

Nitro is the term used for new/original tracks (being the opposite of Retro). I don't get why Nitro can refer to DS ports. That it's considered as boost track is possible, but that's a similar thing as the "RC misunderstanding".
But there is a need to specify it's a CT, because also battles can be ported.

"Nitro" was Nintendo's code name for the DS when it was in-development, that's why all DS games have a NTR prefix on their labels. I do not see how this could be misconstrued to mean the opposite of retro, the only similarity is that the first syllable sounds sort of like "new." So yeah it's similar to the RC thing in that its using a term improperly. The difference is that I have never seen the word "Nitro" to be used to mean "a custom track of original design" on this wiki until you edited the article, it is not a normal meaning of the word. Yes, I am being pedantic, but that's we roll on wikis. On wikis words are supposed to make sense and be used in generally accepted ways, and not be confusing or nonsensical. I do agree that the currently accepted naming scheme on the wiki isn't perfect, but it works and people understand it without making up new terms.
I also believe that terms should be used consistently throughout the wiki; if we're going to use this term and your naming scheme, the List of Custom Tracks would need to be called List of Nitro Custom Tracks, the List of SNES Tracks would need to be called the List of SNES Retro Custom Tracks, but that sounds silly and is unnecessary.
Regarding battle tracks, they can be abbreviated CB (Custom Battle) and RB or PB (Remake Battle) or (Ported Battle) to distinguish them from CTs and Ports/Remakes.--Jefe 20:04, 27 November 2011 (CET)
Nitro and Retro have been used to distinguish new and old tracks on Nintendo tracks, so it can be continued on CT's, at least that's what I thought. Let's just replace Nitro by New, and the problem is solved. That it's "List of Custom Tracks" and not "List of new Custom Tracks" is just a history matter, all CT's were on that page once, and later pages for ports came.

Adding notice to unfinished track pages?

If a track isn't finished but has its own wiki page, maybe there should be some notice on the page itself stating that the track isn't completed. Maybe make something like this into a template:

This track is incomplete!

This page contains info about an unfinished track. More info will be added as progress is made.

Maybe something like {{UnfinishedTrackNotice}}.
