: Well I think they are pretty important. Most people which edit the staticr.rel with a Hex Editor (like many are used to because of the beginning) they will maybe mistake the decimal with a hexadecimal and we will have a problem. The last time I looked at the page I had to double check what I was looking at^^.

Reserving Regions for Custom Track Distributions
Region reserving and gaps in the list
 +
 +
Today I noticed there are many gaps in the region list (70-74, 178-184, 192-196, 200-201, 217-219) and three big empty "parts" (551-665, 667-8899, 10000-65535).
 +
Maybe we should make a rule that everyone should try to reserve regions that do not split one of the gaps in two or more new gaps, else we might have a large list with a gap of two or three regions between the entries in the future.
 +
 +
I do not think it's necessary that a distribution has a "special" region ID like 666 because no normal user will ever see this region ID.

Some segments of the list look like they need a clean. I've seen regions reserved since 2012 and not utilised.

Also, Wiimm, Coro's CT Pack uses region 130, which would clash with your claim. Maybe some of us should start going about freeing up some unused regions that have been reserved. JoeeyTheDino (talk) 23:20, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

 +
Recently I've been testing my distribution V3 MKW Hack Pack and, it is patched on regions 626 and 627 (if you need proof, I can show you, via Wiimm's tools, that they are indeed on those regions). However, when I logged into wiimmfi, I went to This website and discovered that BOTH REGIONS are on region 255 instead. So I'm requesting that this be changed, because eventually I'll want to test out countdown, and there's a possibility that I might meet someone on region 255 that is NOT playing countdown but playing on the main distribution. : Not a good choice. This would split up the region list even more and then it will be impossible to get continuous blocks in the future. : I can second this. I initially reserved those regions for beta versions and testing of Luma's CT Pack, but unreserved them after it was determined that I no longer need them. Thus, my distribution only uses Regions 604-605, but Wiimmfi still says my pack uses Regions 600-603. (On a similar note, I also reserved Regions 606-625, which are now reserved by iSYan.) Wiimmfi Region Requests

Wiimmfi Regions Requests

From now on, regions can only applied using the Wiimmfi portal. Requests at this page are ignored.

Wiimmfi supports an automatic generated list of custom regions and also statistics about region usage.

How many regions?

I want to ask if someone here knows how many Regions could be created. I see it goes till 299 now but till where can it go? --MrSkopelos27 15:57, 8 December 2012 (UTC)

It is one Byte which means the maximum is FF which is 256 in decimal.
Tock (talk) 05:06, 11 January 2014 (UTC)
The current region patch of the Wii supports 65536 regions and the query (as string) is created as "vs_-32768" to "vs_32767" (for versus). The question is: Does the online DB support it?
I've already started with tests to find out all. Btw, the region names for global and region #0 differ!
Wiimm (talk) 12:52, 11 January 2014 (UTC)
Hello. If it's ok with you, I would like to reserve region 177 for future use.
Miles5x5 (talk) 12:41, 12 February 2014 (EST)
You didn´t must ask, only must put it on the page.
I done it for you! --Horsti12™ THE Clouddealer (talk) 17:50, 12 February 2014 (UTC)

Restrictions

Should we not have restrictions on how regions are used? If you haven't noticed, we've managed to spend a rather measly amount of entries over the span of 200 regions, which is quite a sad accomplishment if you ask me. First off, what does it mean to "reserve" a region? Does it imply no one else can use that particular region once you reserve it? And if so, what determines what regions and how much of it you should get? Obviously no one has really given this much thought and we've all just been taking up regions left and right, making this list very fragmented. I propose that we remove all reservations for packs without any releases, because really? I also propose a set limit on how many slots a pack/distro family can have before it must begin recycling slots. 8 slots should be enough for an entire pack/distro family, considering old ones should become inactive over the course of 8 iterations, as it should be. If the proposed 8 slot limit passes, I also propose that pack/distro families have their slots aligned by multiples of 8 to prevent fragmentation. If you feel that 8 is too restricting then fine, 16 or any other powers of 2 will also suffice. I'm not expecting many packs/distros anyway (successful ones anyway), but I just want to clean up this mess. --Torran (talk) 05:30, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

I have reserved the regions, because I plan to release more distribs and I want use IDs in sequence order (ID6 and region use equal 2 lower digits). And in Germany we use this regions (at least the one of the current distribution). So my reservation is to avoid conflicts. So removing my reservations is contra productive.
Wiimm (talk) 06:58, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
Perhaps it'll make more sense if I demonstrate what an alignment of 8 would look like. Check the Sandbox. The example is what the table would look like after a realignment of 8. You'll notice that most of them are not aligned properly and have had padding introduced as a result. You'll also notice that not every family is only limited to 8 regions. Having an alignment of 8 simply means that when you do reserve, you reserve in increments of 8. --Torran (talk) 13:27, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
Why is blocking to 8 so important? It seems so artificial, will waste slots and destroy the already archivded status.
It a non moderator had done this, I have reverted the last edits before discussion.
Hanno (talk) 17:54, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
I agree Hanno, that blocking to 8 is irrelevant. You destroy already assigned a´slots. I never occupied slot 98 and some other, but slots up to 159 for good reasons. And slot 99 us regularly used for testing. Your edits look absolute arbitrary. The only good thing, that you have done, is the removal of long reservations.
Wiimm (talk) 18:38, 29 October 2013 (UTC)

The block size guarantees that each distribution will have at least one share of regions that it may use. What the block size is, however, can be considered. Larger block sizes are recommended only to reduce the total possible number of distributions and enforce competition, with 256 regions being evenly divisible by 8. The block size also forces a distribution that intends on using online regions to use its complete slot. It would be wasteful otherwise, not only to itself but to other distributions. Eventually, the list will fill to the brim with distributions. When that happens, fragmentation will look all the more obvious, especially since no measures have been taken to reduce it other than my proposed slot idea. Also, reservations of regions is nonsense. Unless the region intends to be used to its full extent, it should not take up space on the table. Therefore, the restriction of reserving regions in groups of slots was formed to counteract this. Regions used solely for the purpose of debugging is also unnecessary. That is why you have your own set of regions that you have already reserved to use. Numerical or hexadecimal patterns serve no purpose or worth and are not considered in this argument. --Torran (talk) 19:57, 29 October 2013 (UTC)

I'll will answer later (very busy today and tomorrow) -- Wiimm (talk) 12:02, 30 October 2013 (UTC)

The main question is: What is the reason for this list? It should avoid region conflicts. So everyone, who occupies one or more regions marks the regions as reserved or used. This works very well since beginning of this list and there are enough regions free.

And now, you will change these list, because you like blocking in groups of 8? Generally blocking is irrelevant, because there is no relation between the regions and each region is good enough for each distribution. I have also tested regions above 250 and the worked. The only reasons for my block of regions are aesthetics: I started my distribution with ID RMCx02 and now I reached ID RMCx22. The used regions are 102 to 122. And I plan more distributions and I will continue this continuous numbering. So I'll never use 96-101, so why reserving it for me. But I plan to use 123-159, so I have reserved it. No one of the other distributors have problems with my reservation. And as long there are more than enough regions free, why should we restrict it and why should we waste regions and reserve them for people, who hasn't asked for them? And you say, that reservations of regions is nonsense, but you reserve unwanted regions. And there are some people, who need exact one region. And with your plans, you waste 7 additional regions.

And reservations of regions is not nonsense. At least some weeks before a distribution it should be reserved to avoid conflict. And with my reservation I tell the other people, that I plan to use this regions in the future. And it seems, that all distributors accept it and reserved other slots. And I will not change my plans and use slot 96, only because you give me your permission by changing the list.

And one note for region 99: I use it (and I've heard, others used it too) for my tests. And I create every week a new temporary distribution for testing.

But indirect you are right: There are many reservations, that are not longer needed. Have you seen, that I started to clean the distributions. After that, I plan to clean this least too, but with checking online activity, announcement and asking.

Wiimm (talk) 22:45, 30 October 2013 (UTC)

I think thats a really bad idea. If 2 stubborn people think they are in the right and use the same Region its bad. We cant force people to not use Region X. Just think about what haoppens here on the Wiki sometimes. If you take away the region for a 14 year old kid they will use just to troll the other people using that region.
Tock (talk) 21:26, 10 January 2014 (UTC)

Status Column

I have inserted a status column to the table. Each person, who have claimed a region, should verify it in the next weeks. He do so, by replacing the word nocheck in the first part of a line by check (simply removing "no"). This helps us to find obsolete reservations.

Thanx — Wiimm (talk) 18:09, 10 January 2014 (UTC)

Ah, this should clear the list, I think I will not need more than 1 or two regions.
Shadow (talk) 03:43, 11 January 2014 (UTC)

Hex numbers

Are the hex numbers needed here? I think: Clearly no.

In the past, some users had problems to edit the hex ranges correct. And for understanding, assigning and patching, the hex numbers are not relevant.

Wiimm (talk) 09:56, 19 January 2014 (UTC)

Well I think they are pretty important. Most people which edit the staticr.rel with a Hex Editor (like many are used to because of the beginning) they will maybe mistake the decimal with a hexadecimal and we will have a problem. The last time I looked at the page I had to double check what I was looking at^^.

Nintendos Regions

It seem, that the old assignment of regions used by Nintendo is wrong. I have tested now 3 regions and the region number is always one less than documented:

Custom Track Regions
Region Old definition New and verified definition
0 Worldwide (global) Nintendo (Japan)
1 Nintendo (Japan) Nintendo (North America)
2 Nintendo (North America) Nintendo (Europe)
3 Nintendo (Europe) Nintendo (Australia)
4 Nintendo (Australia) tried at different time of day, but never meet anyone.
5 Nintendo (Korea) tried at different time of day, but never meet anyone.
6 Nintendo (Taiwan) tried at different time of day, but never meet anyone.
7 Nintendo (China) tried at different time of day, but never meet anyone.

The very kind person, ★Shadow★ (talk) 05:58, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
The global-region has no ID - global is transmitted with "vs" (Versus) or "bt" (Battle), the continental Regions with (e. g.) "vs_2" for Europe.

Maybe we could ask somebody who has the Australian / Korean / Taiwan / China version of MKWii to do a network dump to see which region the other Countries use...
Leseratte (talk) 06:45, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
Worked it out from the game's code, there is a table of strings at 8089aa70 (PAL) which has the region names (accessed at 8066d0c8 (PAL)) starting from 0:
jp us eu au tw kr ch jp
This indicates the game treats any region above 6 as jp for the pruposes of logs.
Chadderz (talk) 08:57, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
Just found 5 people online on region 5 with IP addresses located in South Korea. Also all tested people on region 3 use IP addresses from Australia.

Reserving Regions for Custom Track Distributions

Hey, I was just wondering, how do I get a custom region for my custom distribution, and how do I set up my game for said reserved region?

- KeiroStarr (talk) 10:26, 16 June 2014 (UTC-06:00)

Install Wiimm's SZS Tools and run this command:
wstrt patch staticr.rel --region x
Where staticr.rel is a StaticR.rel file from MKWii's disc and x is a region number.
--CT creator Emer, (talk here) 20:49, 16 June 2014 (UTC)
It's in the rel folder of your mkw iso or wbfs file
And than use the command, but first you have to reserve a region and than change the x to your reserved region^^ --Horsti12™ THE Clouddealer (talk) 22:38, 16 June 2014 (UTC)
Well then how do I reserve a region then? --KeiroStarr (talk) 01:44, 17 June 2014 (UTC-06:00)
Look on the Custom Track Regions site which regions are free and than reserve it on the site --Horsti12™ THE Clouddealer (talk) 13:42, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
@KeiroStarr: Do you think it's necessary to reserve such a region in the middle of other empty regions? This makes the list much more gappy... -- Leseratte (talk) 15:38, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
@Leseratte: Sorry about that, it's just a running gag in the Zombspawn community, since we're themed around zombie games and whatnot. --KeiroStarr (talk) 09:51, 17 June 2014 (UTC-06:00)

Region reserving and gaps in the list

Today I noticed there are many gaps in the region list (70-74, 178-184, 192-196, 200-201, 217-219) and three big empty "parts" (551-665, 667-8899, 10000-65535). Maybe we should make a rule that everyone should try to reserve regions that do not split one of the gaps in two or more new gaps, else we might have a large list with a gap of two or three regions between the entries in the future.

I do not think it's necessary that a distribution has a "special" region ID like 666 because no normal user will ever see this region ID.

Leseratte (talk) 15:38, 17 June 2014 (UTC)

Confusion

I am very confused on the regions...what does it mean to "reserve" one and "verify" it? --Michael (talk) 02:16, 30 June 2014 (UTC)

Reserved Regions

If users have multiple online region IDs, do they have to be consecutive? (ex. reserving region 5, do the next ones have to be 6, 7, 8...?) --Michael (talk) 20:23, 3 May 2015 (UTC)

Nope, take the Pro CT Pack, which uses regions 200+something, and then region 551. JoeeyTheDino (talk) 09:08, 4 May 2015 (UTC)

Reserve

Hi id like to reserve regions 853-856 Jax53000VR (talk) 23:33, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

You should reserve 812-815 instead so the list doesn't get more split up.
--maczkopeti (talk) 23:56, 17 July 2015 (UTC)
Ok then can I reserve 812-815?Jax53000VR (talk) 16:30, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
Yes, go ahead, you don't need to ask.
--maczkopeti (talk) 16:33, 18 July 2015 (UTC)

List Clean Up?

Some segments of the list look like they need a clean. I've seen regions reserved since 2012 and not utilised. Also, Wiimm, Coro's CT Pack uses region 130, which would clash with your claim. Maybe some of us should start going about freeing up some unused regions that have been reserved. JoeeyTheDino (talk) 23:20, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

255

Recently I've been testing my distribution V3 MKW Hack Pack and, it is patched on regions 626 and 627 (if you need proof, I can show you, via Wiimm's tools, that they are indeed on those regions). However, when I logged into wiimmfi, I went to This website and discovered that BOTH REGIONS are on region 255 instead. So I'm requesting that this be changed, because eventually I'll want to test out countdown, and there's a possibility that I might meet someone on region 255 that is NOT playing countdown but playing on the main distribution. Huili (talk) 05:22, 9 December 2015 (UTC)

I is hard coded in the new CT-CODE. I found this feature last week in the final tests of MKW-Fun and I already fixed my tools to disable this hard coded part. But the update is not published yet (I'm very busy at the moment).
-- Wiimm (talk) 06:44, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
I released a new version of my SZS Tools and this bug is fixed now.
-- Wiimm (talk) 17:28, 11 December 2015 (UTC)
Hate to say this, but the file wouldn't be modified when I did this command: wstrt patch --region=626 StaticR.rel. What am I doing wrong? Will I need to a patch a clean StaticR.rel again? Huili (talk) 20:37, 11 December 2015 (UTC)
Nevermind I think I figured it out, sorry for the inconvenience. Huili (talk) 20:47, 11 December 2015 (UTC)
http://prntscr.com/9d2clu Success, thanks for the update, and apologies for leaving messages here excessively in a short amount of time. Huili (talk) 21:00, 11 December 2015 (UTC)
A hint: If patching main.dol with --region=626 too, then MKW informs the server about the region at login. At this moment it has no impact, but for the future I plan some more restrictions to protect the region and maybe rooms.

16086

I would like to reserve region 16086-16136 for my distribution. --iSYan (talk) 23:35, May 21, 2016 (UTC)

Not a good choice. This would split up the region list even more and then it will be impossible to get continuous blocks in the future. I would suggest regions 628-665, or, if you really think you'd need more than those (why would one distribution need 50 region?), take some regions that are either at the beginning or at the end of a free space, like 812-862. -- Leseratte (talk) 07:19, 22 May 2016 (UTC)
16086 is not nice but not a real problem for me, but really 50 regions? -- Wiimm (talk) 18:00, 22 May 2016 (UTC)
It is my first distribution so there will be a lot of testing but I don't think I will need 50 regions so instead I'll take 606-625 (17 regions). --iSYan (talk) 22:21, May 25, 2016 (UTC)

MKW Hack Pack

Hello Wiimm, my regions for MKW Hack Pack have been reserved for sometime, but Luma for whatever needed those regions sometime ago. I want to let you know that he no longer needs them. So I need my distribution to show up on here instead of Luma's CT Pack: https://wiimmfi.de/stat?m=48 https://wiimmfi.de/mkw-region

Here are some things I will need changed: https://puu.sh/shOh0/1110bfaff4.png - Change that to v4 MKW Hack Pack https://puu.sh/shOuN/a39cf5845c.png - Change that to v4 MKW Hack Pack Countdown Region 202 - v4 MKW Hack Pack Hacking Region 203 - v4 MKW Hack Pack misc.

Thank you in advance for your consideration! Huili (talk) 10:25, 14 November 2016 (UTC)

I can second this. I initially reserved those regions for beta versions and testing of Luma's CT Pack, but unreserved them after it was determined that I no longer need them. Thus, my distribution only uses Regions 604-605, but Wiimmfi still says my pack uses Regions 600-603. (On a similar note, I also reserved Regions 606-625, which are now reserved by iSYan.)
