itsame934's edits

With regards to the recently undone edits by itsame934, I feel KHacker35000vr acted too rashly in undoing what was clearly several hours of work. Hidden amongst edits to existing translations, which KHacker35000vr rightly points out is prohibited, was a significant amount of genuine translation.

  • @KHacker35000vr: Please be more careful when undoing other editor's edits.
  • @itsame934: Please read the rules, and don't change existing translations without discussion. Some of you edits did look like typo correction, but as I'm not fluent in Dutch, I couldn't be sure which ones were, so I undid them all. Feel free to restore those, and sorry for the wasted time.

I've also allowed itsame934's name to be added to the list of translators, as there was a large amount of translation.
Chadderz 10:44, 18 April 2012 (UTC)

I indeed acted too rashly, I was also suprised that it was such a big difference. Now I have more time I'll take a look at it/
kHacker35000vr 10:50, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
Don't worry about it, it's fixed now. If you want to help out checking if any of the changes we're correct, that'd be good.
Chadderz 10:54, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
I'm sorry for misreading the rules, I thought it worked a bit differently, and I'm sorry for the late reaction. But I felt like the Dutch translation was lacking a lot, and a lot looked just like it had been thrown right into Google Translate. I only did typo corrections, grammar corrections, and I've corrected some names that were translated wrong. I basically did a complete overhaul of the translation, planning to complete the Dutch part. I want to ask permission for editing the already done translations, because there are a lot of mistakes in there, and I want to ask permission to complete the translation, as I was planning earlier.
itsame934 10:48, 19 April 2012 (UTC)
You may certainly help complete the translation; we need all the help we can get. Also in the rules it is permitted to correct typos and grammar mistakes; I don't speak Dutch myself so I don't know what is and is not a mistake. If you wish to change a translation for other reasons however, you should first mention the changes you wish to make on this talk page, and these can then be approved by others.
Chadderz 11:17, 19 April 2012 (UTC)
Thank you, I'll continue on then... I expect the whole translation to be done by the end of the week (sunday) or even earlier. I can't promise it though.

Translating names

I have a question, regarding in game names, like Friend Code, Dry Bones or Ghost Data. Are they to be translated as well? Because translating names may cause confusion under users, who are used to the names. Usually names aren't translated because of that reason. Even the Dutch Nintendo calls Friend Codes "Friend Codes" in Dutch, instead of "Vriendencode" Thanks in advance.
itsame934 15:23, 19 April 2012 (UTC)

Yes you have, we are translating the whole game. We don't stick to any English names, the Mario Kart Wii manual contains alot of Dutch translations. Including "Vriendcode".

Dutch translation

Good morning good people. As you all may have noticed: As of now, the whole Mario Kart Wii translation is complete! That's right, the WHOLE game has been translated into Dutch! Of course, it's not completely typo-free, but we're getting there. I'll be checking over every translation tomorrow, looking for the final errors, and fixing them, but as of now, the Dutch translation can be called complete. I'd also like to ask KHacker to look it over as well, as I'm just a human being, and I'm not perfect at translating, even though I've been speaking both English and Dutch for as long as I can remember. But still, I'm just 18, so I'm not a perfect translating machine.
--Itsame934 21:45, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

EN: WHOOOHOO! Dutch is done. I can't wait to play if it is released!
NL: WHOOOHOO! Nederlands is klaar! Ik kan niet wachten om het te spelen als het is uitgebracht!
PC Freak 05:28, 26 April 2012 (UTC)
That's fantastic work people; well done. We shall ensure that a beta version with the Dutch language is released to you first so that you can check it is all correct in game. Update the status of the translation again when you think it is completely done.
Chadderz 05:40, 26 April 2012 (UTC)
I think it IS already done. I read through all the stuff.
PC Freak 05:41, 26 April 2012 (UTC)
@Chadderz: That would be nice, because I know of a few really small errors which could be improved a bit. And of course some translations on our part could be improved, but it would be easier to track them down in-game, of course. I hope this helps your development a bit, Chadderz. I think it's a pity I didn't get to finish it last weekend, but some personal stuff got in the way first.
Itsame934 10:37, 26 April 2012 (UTC)
Might I suggest adding little puns and witty translations to the Dutch translation of the verhicles/track and other things? Nintendo themselves have done this to the Dutch translation of MK7, with the 'Bij-rijder' as the most significant example. For instance, I'm thinking of changing the Dutch translation of Moo Moo Farm into Boeh-Boehrderij or something among those lines.

Spanish translation

Hi. I was wondering why there is not a Spanish translation in this page, but there is one full translation in the other article. May I contribute to the Spanish translation in this page?
Enzeru 05:54, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

This page is for languages that the game does not already have. Since it has Spanish, there is no need to translate all these things again, as we already have them.
Chadderz 08:12, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

Lakitu

To avoid going to far into the model, it will be far easier if the text on Lakitu's sign reads, for example, Ronde 2, instead of the requested 2e Ronde. Is this acceptable for Dutch? What about for the other languages?
Chadderz 08:03, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

Ronde 2 is acceptable for Dutch, I'll change it.
kHacker35000vr 09:05, 27 April 2012 (UTC)
Haha, wanted to bring that up myself, because I didn't really like 2e ronde. Cool!
Itsame934 15:23, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
In Portuguese, we only use either 2ª Volta (second lap) or Volta nº 2 (lap #2). If you put Volta 2 it's understandable, but not grammatically correct. Maybe you could write 2/3 instead or something like that; I think I already saw it on a texture hack somewhere. It's nice and simple.

Problem

I noticed that some of these languages may not work in-game at all simply because the font doesn't support some of the characters. We would need to make new fonts that have these characters added. --Digital Monster, Guilmon35249vr 15:30, 26 May 2012 (UTC)

I thought we might have to. Which characters are needed at the moment, so I have an idea?
Chadderz 19:42, 26 May 2012 (UTC)
These are the characters I see in the current translations that are not in kart_kanji_font.brfnt:
ą ż Ś ś ę ć Ł ł ń
and any capital/lowercase variation of these.
--Digital Monster, Guilmon35249vr 21:52, 26 May 2012 (UTC)
Add ź, too, please. :3

New person

I 'hired' my friend, Poxer, to do a bit of Polish translation and check for errors. By the same time tommorow Polish translation should be complete.
--me, Szymbar15, 1st June 2012, 20:39 (UTC)

Took a bit longer, but here it is!
--me, Szymbar15, 14th July 2012, 16:37 (UTC)
At first you called the Mario Kart Channel "Kanał Mario Karta" but later on in the translation it is still called "Mario Kart Channel", this also applies to other things like "Friend code" and I think it should be changed to keep some consistency. The rules also say that everything must be translated, so yeah :P
WorldsBoss, 14th July 2012, 17:46 (UTC)
No, I didn't do it. Why? Cause it contradicts with some graphics, like the Mario Kart Channel WAD. As for Friend Code, "Kod Przyjaciela" is not used in any game, but a Wii player (Must be advanced, Riivolution) has played some games and there it was called "Friend Code", so I didn't like to make problems from it. I didn't want to localise the game, only translate. Hope you can understand it. I can fix it if it causes problems. I'll fix these problems to "Mario Kart Channel" and "Friend Code".
--me, Szymbar15, 14th July 2012, 22:35 (UTC)
Ain't you by the chance Pole? :3

Finnish

Someone has tried the Finnish translation. Should I override them? Most of them are wrong... -- Gskartwii 17:57, 2 October 2012 (UTC)

Yes, that was MrSkopelos using Google translate to try and save you some time :P You may overwrite them and remove the "maybe"s. -- WorldsBoss 18:14, 2 October 2012 (UTC)

Since Dry Bowser is listed as Kuiva Bowser, shouldn't Dry Bones be Kuiva Bones (or whatever the finnish word for bones is) instead? I'm not really sure though :P -- WorldsBoss 08:17, 3 October 2012 (UTC)

It's "luut". Okay, I will change that... Gskartwii 11:54, 3 October 2012 (UTC)

Swedish

I recently had a request from someone on the MKWii forums asking if he could translate the game into Swedish, since Sweden is a country that is supported by the game but its native language is not present within it. I am sure there won't be any objections to this but I felt like I'd better just make sure anyway, if there are no justified objections within the next day or so I will add the columns to all the translation pages. -- WorldsBoss 17:02, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

Well, that's that then :P adding the stuff now. -- WorldsBoss 12:42, 5 October 2012 (UTC)

Translating Daisy's name?

While it's true that daisy is a flower, no official translation (Spanish, Italian, French...) changed the character's name to fit the translated name for the flower, instead they kept the English name. I've always thought a general translation rule was not to translate character names. And translating Daisy's name would also mean Peach can be translated too, since it's a fruit. And what about Toad meaning frog? Witch 10:21, 23 February 2013 (UTC)

While you are right and you have a valid point I thought Daisy should be translated while Peach not. I don't know how it is in other languages but in Greek the name Daisy exist while Peach (like the fruit) doesn't. For example in Greek the name Friday and the name Sunday also exist. I know at least 2 people called Sunday. About Toad now; I've discussed long time ago on Skype with Chris (Worldsboss) and we decided it should be Kinopio in Greek. At this moment I personally think he should be called Toad (Τοντ) and Toadette (Τοντέττε). After all Wario for example has been translated too. (P.S. Why have I translated Toadette into Frogette? I hate myself...) MrSkopelos27 12:40, 23 February 2013 (UTC)
Daisy exists as a name in Portuguese too (Margarida - similar to Greek, funnily enough). But I know that if I changed it to that, there's bound to appear someone complaining about it (even though no other Portuguese translator has said anything yet...). Toad just irks me because it looks nothing like a frog, why is it named that?
We can agree on one thing though: Translating is hard. Witch 13:49, 23 February 2013 (UTC)

German

Can I make the translation for german? It wuld be great, if I could.

  1. You have forgotten to sign your talk.
  2. This is a Wiki and the translations are done by all members.
  3. German is (almost?) ready, see CTGP Revolution/Translation.
Wiimm (talk) 14:45, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
German already exists ingame, what would be the point to translate it?
kHacker35000vr (talk) 14:50, 1 June 2013 (UTC)

Italian Translation

Can I make the translation for Italian ? --Dswii3ds (talk) 12:42, 28 July 2013 (UTC)

No, as I explained your talk page. Why didn't you wait for someone to answer? --Jefe (talk) 14:11, 28 July 2013 (UTC)

Cancelling Albanian Translation

Hi!
I just would like to say that I'm cancelling my translation since:
- there are not many Albanian speaking Mario Kart Wii players.
- all Albanian speaking Mario Kart Wii players can mostly speak another language, like english, spanish or german. - I don't know ANY game which has been translated to Albanian which makes it a lot harder.
I have been inactive for a time and I will continue being that, so just wanted to say that.
Im sorry :/
TropicalDrop99 (talk) 08:54, 29 September 2013 (UTC)

It's ok, thank you for your efforts up until this point regardless. I will leave the work you have already done in place so that if anyone comes along and wants to complete it in future they will be able to, but we (wiki mods) appreciate your clarification on this matter :) -- WorldsBoss (talk) 12:30, 29 September 2013 (UTC)

Changing unsuitable Greek translations of CTGP-R

Can I change anything that I found unsuitable in the Greek translating of CTGP-R?
Sarantis 10:26, 16 December 2013 (Greece Time)

Within reason, sure. MrSkopelos did all the Greek translating for this part and, although his English is almost perfect, even he admitted that parts of it could be done better. -- WorldsBoss (talk) 02:19, 17 December 2013 (UTC)
