Cuss Words

Is it correct to have swear words in the translations?, For example, one line says "GTFO" which cointains a swear word in its meaning, so in Spanish I translated it with a cuss word. Is this right or should I modify it?

No, I think they are to be avoided. GTFO is like writing F***, in that unless the word is known, the meaning is obscured, wheras using the word directly leaves no protection at all.
Chadderz 08:14, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
OK, It's fixed now.

Alternate Languages

Can I add my language, Greek? I only know me, my brother and a friend who play CTGP Revolution but I might do it if you want :P Shall I or shall I not?
MrSkopelos27 18:07, 9 April 2012

Yes, but it will be a lot more work. Since the game doesn't have Greek already, you will need to translate all the game's text. If you're are still interested I can explain how.
Chadderz 18:24, 9 April 2012 (CEST)
I wonder why you have added Dutch, as it's not an orginal language for the game. Just the health and safety screen.
kHacker35000vr 19:28, 9 April 2012 (CEST)
Yes, it was a mistake that MrBean35000vr pointed out to me; I saw it in my health and safety screen folder, and forgot it wasn't fully a language. Again, it could be if someone will translate everything else, so I shall leave it on for now.
Chadderz 19:50, 9 April 2012 (CEST)
Hmm, tell me what to do and I'll try. I don't know if I'll make it thought. Whatever, I'll give it a try and we'll see.
MrSkopelos27 19:46, 9 April 2012
OK, I'll arange a list of all the game's text, and then you can have a go at translation. Of the original languages which would you prefer to have the list in? English?
Chadderz 19:50, 9 April 2012 (CEST)
Yes I want the list in English. Bean can send me the file on Skype (he has me added as a contact. My name there is MrSkopelos27 - Mike).
MrSkopelos27 19:56 9 April 2012 (CEST)
What about Portuguese? I know at least 23 people who use the CTGP and can only speak and read in Portuguese, 7 from Brazil and 16 from Portugal. I can translate if it's needed, I'm sure more people than that are out there who use this/who'd like to use this. -- SuperMario64DS 20:32, 9 April 2012 (CEST)
I can start on the Portuguese translation, like I've already said at the forums (I'm Portuguese). Also, how do you know so many people from Portugal that play CTGP? I never encountered anyone from my country, not even in regular worldwides!
Witch 17:06, 18 April 2012 (UTC)

I've added a section to the page about alternative languages. Please submit future requests there.

Existing Translation

This thread on the Mario Kart Wii forum was one I made a while ago to see if people would translate the course names for 4.4. A lot of the names in that image are wrong, but corrections are down below. I wouldn't trust the japanese tranlations at all, since Google is very bad at that. --Digital Monster, Guilmon35249vr 19:48, 9 April 2012 (CEST)

I'm aware of those translations, but wasn't sure of the quality, so I didn't copy them. If you know they're good, feel free to.
Chadderz 19:50, 9 April 2012 (CEST)
As it turns out, the Japanese translations were not only fixed once, but twice, so they might be better than I thought they were. Al;so, Spanish translations seem to be fine, and most of the French ones look good. --Digital Monster, Guilmon35249vr 19:56, 9 April 2012 (CEST)

Wiimms Tools

You know, my tools can handle plain text files and also support patching of any message file by an other files. I can write full automated batch files that create the BMG/SZS files for you. Text example taken from CTGPR:

  4040	= Mushroom Peaks
  4041	= Chomp Valley
  4042	= 42
  4043	= Server undecided.
  4044	= SNES Bowser Castle 2
  4045	= Codename: BIGBOX

You export it to the translators, they translate it and then you patch it language dependent. It is also possible to filter out only allowed messaged. All that is already implemented.
Wiimm 19:45, 9 April 2012 (CEST)

I know about your tools, and they will certainly do the patch back into the CTGPR. I put it into wikitable format for presentation and to make collaboration easier.

New Courses

Shouldn't the courses that are to appear in the next version (So far) be listed here too? If this feature is going to appear in the next version (I only assume, because v1.00.02 is mentioned several times), then shouldn't courses that will be included next be listed here too so they can also recieve translation for the next version? Also, worth pointing out: Any N64 Course that includes the woord "Raceway" needs to become "Circuit"; In MK64 & MKWii, Circuit is used in the place of Raceway for Japan versions of thetwo games. MK7 In Japanease, would translate N64 Luigi Raceway to N64 Luigi Circuit, for example. Although things are not to be region speciffic, I can only assume that it would be confusing to a Japanease player to see both "N64 Mario Circuit" & "N64 Royal Raceway" both in their own language. -- SuperMario64DS, April 9th 2012, 21:48 (CEST)

They will be added later, we haven't finalised the list yet, plus it would ruin the surprise!

Korean Translations

Can someone confirm the Korean translations? They look like google translator jobs.
Chadderz 09:36, 10 April 2012 (CEST)

Track name Translations

I think translating the names of the F-Zero tracks is unnecessary. In some languages that just would sound weird. Also, Cloud Carpet = Cloud Carpet was requested by the Creator of the Track. And for the F-Zero tracks ( i think ) there are actually no translations. --Buschkling 12:35, 10 April 2012 (CEST)

There must be a discussion, if and how to translate track names. There are 2 ways in the moment, and both are used (for german):
  • Handle most track names as unique names and don't translate tracks like Cloud Carpet.
  • Translate everything and all like Cloud Carpet to Wolkenteppich.
Away from the decision Nintendo names like Bowsers Castle must be translated like Nintendo does: Bowsers Festung.

Dutch

I could change it to Dutch. I may start tomorrow.
PC Freak 19:48, 10 April 2012 (CEST)

Lol! kHacker wants to Dutch too! Lets look who gets the best one!
PC Freak 07:12, 11 April 2012 (CEST)
PC Freak please check the track names i think anyone made a mistake with tree circuit someone has translated it to Boom Kringloop but it should be Boom Circuit.
Jelke 14:52, 16 April 2012 (CEST)
I actually don't see what's wrong with it, it's one of the few translations I didn't change after someone else translated some tracks. Remember that Alpine Pass is translated to "Kampioensberg" by Nintendo.
kHacker35000vr 13:08, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
I see that the dutch translation is realy starting to look good! do i have the premission to fill in some of the blank spots so that it goes a little bit faster?
Jelke 16:12, 20 April 2012 (CEST)
Certainly; every little helps. If you do a reasonable number, add your name to the translators.
Chadderz 16:43, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
Ok I'll fill up all red spots right away
Jelke 12:18, 22 April 2012 (CEST)

I have translated almost everything of Startup Messages to dutch i only dont know a good translation for Expert Staff Ghost Data records someone should look at it.

Jelke 15:20, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

Some little notes: 'BLUE SHELLS!' is translated to 'BLAUWE SCHILDEN!', but that's not their name in Dutch. They are called 'spijkerschilden'.A thing that looks like it: bullets are translated to kogels. But we use the same name, Bullet Bill. It's strange to call them bullets, when the name is different. (You will see it when you read the guide). The translations above are pretty, but this one is horrible: 'Om te trainen ze is mijn doel!' It look likes someone used a translator. Better translation: 'Het is mijn doel om ze te trainen!'. Last note: some times it's translated too literal. Woods is translated too wouden, but the word 'bos' is much more used in the Netherlands.
MrKoeikoei 14:16, 28 April 2012 (CEST)

If they are wrong, fix them. You're allowed to do it. If you're editing something you have to ask for permission. Also some track names are actually names, using "bos" is not good for a name.

Spanish

It was brought to my attention that some of the Spanish translations are wrong. For example: "You're taking too long!" was translated as "¡Estás hablando mucho!". "hablar" means to talk. This sentence says "You're talking a lot!" Juan brought this to my attention. --Digital Monster, Guilmon35249vr 18:38, 11 April 2012 (CEST)

I noticed this, someone obviously doesn't know what they are getting into. I fixed what I could including that one silly translation. --BigOto 20:57, 11 April 2012 (CEST)
I already fixed the translation,BigOto.If I could,I'll credit ur apport. =P

Message for Bean or Chadderz, is it OK if I add a NTSC version of Spanish? Juan is PAL, as many other spanish players, but NTSC and PAL versions are really different!
HelloImYourMind 15:37, 14 April 2012 (UTC)

Yus,I translated PAL,I just deleted some PAL translations cuz I thinked NTSC translations were better for PAL too. =P
Well,HelloImYourMind,we'll be both credited,me for PAL,and u for NTSC =D
08Juan80 18:45, 16 April 2012 (UTC)

Just in case someone may wonder: NTSC goes before than PAL due to alphabetic order, so please do not modify this. Enzeru 05:27, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

Spanish was already finished, so whoever changed it again, please don't do it anymore.

About crediting for Spanish translations

Message for Bean and Chadderz, MKDasher helped me in the Spanish translations,so he can be credited too for Spanish translations (PAL ones,that were before than NTSC)

08Juan80 21:58, 17 April 2012 (UTC)
This has no answer yet from Bean or Chadderz? ._.
08Juan80 22:19, 27 April 2012 (UTC)
Sorry, I've noted this, I just didn't reply.
Chadderz 08:13, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

Wishlist translation?

Should the tracks on the course wishlist be translated too? Maybe on a separate page? This page could be CTGP Revolution/Translation/Track Wishlist. --Digital Monster, Guilmon35249vr 18:08, 16 April 2012 (UTC), edited 00:18, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

No, we'll release the names of the new tracks with sufficient time to translate them nearer the time.
Chadderz 10:19, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
But which day? cuz on Thursday I'll cannot do that.
