The Nintendo 64 (N64) is a console designed by Nintendo. The system launched in 1996 in Japan and North America; 1997 in Europe and other regions. The Nintendo 64 was Nintendo's third home console, succeeding the SNES. The Nintendo 64 is notable for being the final Nintendo home console to use ROM cartridges instead of disc-based media and for including 4 controller ports. The second entry in the Mario Kart series, Mario Kart 64, was released for this system.
